To wonder why my teen is stealing sugar?

One of my kids (both teens) is stealing the sugar. I don't know which one.

I noticed a brand new bag of sugar had vanished last week, I assumed it had been spilled by one of the kids who had failed to mention it. Actually that didn't really make sense at the time because neither of them is capable of cleaning a bag of sugar so well. Either way I forgot all about it.

Now a second bag has disappeared.

It's not me, its not DH. Nobody else has had access.

What the fuckity fuck is going on?

I'm just place marking. I'm intrigued.

MadisonAvenue · 02/11/2017 21:50

Plates in drawers!!!!!!! WTF????

Yep. Happens here too. It's a teen thing.

As for the sugar, I have no idea and I really hope that you get an answer OP.

I've realised tonight that a bottle of Febreze is missing here. Pretty sure it's been taken to uni.

nanight · 02/11/2017 21:50

OMG PLATES IN DRAWERS??!

I need to know wtf is going in here

B9494 · 02/11/2017 21:51

My money's on some sort of Halloween costume/decoration shennanigans.

PinkFlamingo888 · 02/11/2017 21:51

Can you call him and ask him to come home please. I want to go to bed but this will keep me up until I find out the truth!

Nongoddess · 02/11/2017 21:54

Milkmoustache and Insomnibrat yes, I reckon he's making jam too. And you know who I blame? JEREMY CORBYN. This is probably a new thing amongst the youth. Starts with a bit of harmless Marxism, ends with pressuring the One Show to accept a jar of jam. I share your anxiety, OP.

pipistrell · 02/11/2017 21:54

Mine put plates in the drawers in the bedside table.

It’s grim.

My money is on the sixth form common room.

Tessliketrees · 02/11/2017 21:55

Wow the answers are so varied. It's a bit like is the glass half full/empty.

Jam or Ketamine.

People waiting to find out I have to warn you that it is perfectly possible we wont get an answer. I hate to be a let down. I feel like I should end with a drug bust at least.

Plates in drawers is because (I assume) I will usually do no more than pop my head in the door and if the plates are hidden I can't shout at him about them.

I need to know where the sugar is going...

wax that happens here too. Dp at work, ds at school. Pen on table. I turn around for two minutes and it's just gone. I've never ever found it. Happens with all sorts of stuff.

Somebody mentioned art and sugar, while I don't do it myself, you can make a sugar scrub to strip paint and "sand" down surfaces, and scrub away grime etc. That sort of thing

Rugratwrangler · 02/11/2017 21:57

Also, as a kid I used to dip cubes of butter in sugar and eat it. Have you checked the butter supplies!?

Tessliketrees · 02/11/2017 21:57

Nongoddess

Fucking hell, meth is one thing but I do hope he isn't flirting with Corbynism. Shock

mogulfield · 02/11/2017 21:57

Plates in drawers?! I have this all to come.

pipistrell · 02/11/2017 21:58

Teens are grim.

They are also all up to something all of the time. Sometimes it’s better not to know.

paranoidpammywhammy2 · 02/11/2017 22:01

sugar sandwiches?

Shroom Jam?

Slime? (don't think sugar is an ingredient)

pipistrell · 02/11/2017 22:02

Do you have an old, damp house? Could he have a pet mould?

paranoidpammywhammy2 · 02/11/2017 22:02

Late Harvest Festival.

Foodbank.

milkmoustache · 02/11/2017 22:05

Plates in drawers? How the hell is the wrinkle test for jam going to work?

CanIBuffalo · 02/11/2017 22:05

mogul plates are not the worst thing a teen keeps in their drawers. Not by a long chalk.

Floellabumbags · 02/11/2017 22:06

My first thought was that they are filling patrol tanks with it

What for? I've lived a sheltered life Hmm

Graphista · 02/11/2017 22:08

Gawd yes I'm lucky dd isn't messy but I remember my sister was a NIGHTMARE for dirty plates/mugs/bowls in drawers, blanket chests, wardrobe, the dirty laundry basket Envy boak!

HLBug · 02/11/2017 22:08

Could he have a pet mould?

Grin
Insomnibrat · 02/11/2017 22:10

This thread needs to go in classics!

ArbitraryName · 02/11/2017 22:10

I’d assume that plates in drawers or wardrobes is teenager ‘tidying up’ (i.e. hiding the stuff rather than putting it away).

Graphista · 02/11/2017 22:11

"What for? I've lived a sheltered life" ceases the engine up

Maria1982 · 02/11/2017 22:11

This thread has made me laugh!

floella I believe sugar in petrol tank of car messes up the engine, so would be vandalism..
