Nursery debate

For the past few days, there have been a number of threads about nurseries and the pros and cons. Personally, I am not keen on nurseries for under 3's and after 3 for 15 hours. What does everyone else think?

This thread has deteriorated as all threads of this type do. Well done OP; all you've managed to prove from your post is that we live in a society where parents are pitted against each other for the choices they make rather than being encouraged to support each other. What is wrong with acknowledging that these things are never black and white and that the majority of parents are doing their best for their kids, whatever the circumstance? Why make it into an argument where you have to be for or against?

My DD did work experience in a nursery, she was 15 with no experience. She was upset that a six week old baby was lying crying, one carer said, "She'll learn, she can't get picked up whenever she wants." My DD was also left alone to make cakes with a group of 3 and 4 year olds. I was furious as she should never have been left alone with that responsibility. Not all nurseries are great although this one was rated outstanding.

It did make me wonder if things went on when mine were at nursery that I never knew about.

The nurseries that look good on the surface, are not always great. It is all about the staff and their attitudes. That is what matters.

The trouble is you only see what the staff want you to see. My son was happy at nursery and I was happy with him there, now I look back and wonder if I was naive and just believed what they said. Bit late worrying now as he is 40 but my DDs experience did shock me.
