AIBU?

To ask what is your favourite perfume that you can actually smell after an hour?

Lots of times someone will walk past me and there will be an overriding whiff of a gorgeous perfume they're wearing (should I ask what it is, would that be weird?). I can never seem to find one that lasts a good while.

An hour ago I put on Cacherel, Noa, and I swear it's gone already...but smelled lovely for the first 5 minutes. Have I just gotten used to it or is it just crap? I just want a lovely, sweet, vanilla type fragrance that lasts a bit longer but have yet to find it.

I love Ghost's Deep Night, and Angel (thierry mugler?) but I've run out and can't remember if they lasted well. I've actually got a Jade Goody one that lasts pretty well despite being very cheap! I'd love Shalimar, but don't want to waste money if it doesn't linger. I've also tried a Kate Moss one (horrid), and Givenchy-irresistible, which I think was quite decent. Any good recommendations?

op, people can smell those (IMO) horrid sweet perfumes even if you have gone nose blind. Scents like Angel make me feel sick and headachey.

Agree with PPs. It is better to have a handful of perfumes and swap around a bit than to over spray and stink. Also you get to enjoy it more.
There are loads of good cheap perfumes out there. And some rather expensive ones, always get a sample of an expensive one before parting with big bucks.

As others have said, some perfumes are composed of very volatile ingredients and won't last very long. Citrussy summery scents will fade very quickly. EDTs will not last as long as perfumes, and things like Jo Malone stuff which seem to just have had the main ingredient wafted over the bottle briefly such is their (non) longevity.

Some perfumes last longer on different people- recently on the perfumista thread I've bemoaned several scents that just vanish after an hour on me.

I never put perfume on the inside of my wrist, but on the outside of it, if that makes any sense. Means I can smell it more easily.

LakieLady- Perfume Parlour do a cheap as chips dupe of Prada Iris that is even nicer than the real thing! Doesn't last very long either- but at about £7 for 30ml you can spray liberally!

I've worn Jean Paul Gaultier Classique for years and I can still smell it at the end of the day. I don't wear loads either, two sprays in my cleavage.

My current fave is SpiceBomb by Viktor and Rolf. Technically a man's perfume, but who cares. When I put my coat on this morning, I could still smell it and that was from the morning before.

I've been using Romance by Ralph Lauren for twenty(ish) years now, and I can still always smell it.

It's divine.

Pehaligon's Bluebell. I love the solid perfume that you put on with your finger, rather than a spray.

Clinique's Happy and Body shop white musk are my favourites.

Cannot abide over sprayed and strong perfumes, gives me a stinking migraine.

Of course the perfum you think smells great others mighr think smells shite.

And any perfum that can be smelt at more than a foot away is overpowering shite 🙂

Oh, Chanel No 5, just lasts for ever. A present from DH when we were dating (nearly 50 years ago!). But I like most of the Chanel ones, and just treated myself to their new one, Gabrielle, in duty free!

Problem with channel no5 (eau premier) is our 3 yr old son said 'ooh mummy, you smell just like playdoh'

And having said that, it does indeed smell just like playdoh. It really does!

Oh well, saves me a fortune!

Ive wirn calvin klein obsession every day since the 80's people always ask me what im wearing and say how nice it is.
Had a few tries with others and really like nina ricci l'air du temps but the very expensive flower bomb i had bought for me only seems to last an hour or so.
A friend wears blue grass and smelks divine but when I bought and tried some I ended up with a terrible migraine.

No. 5 is my go to (I kniw, I'm an old lady). The L'occitane ones last very well and come in very nice scents-they used to do roll on sticks (about five years ago, haven't shopped there for a while so I don't know any more) that you could slip in your purse in case you wanted to apply sone during the day without spraying it everywhere.

Si by Armani is fabulous. Ditto Chanel No5 & Stella by Stella McCartney. Agree though that EDP is the way to go for long-lasting scent. EDT doesn't have the same staying power.

Disclaimer......We deal in black humour in this house.

Christmas 2015 I was recovering from thirty (count 'em) rounds of radio and six vicious rounds of chemo.

We were not due to know if it had worked until mid January.

My DH at my request bought me a bottle of No 5 EDP.

My then 14 year old son, picked it up, peered at it, and said......... Eau de parfum........ spenny........... he clearly expects you to live. Grin

Valentino Donna, the Mango shop's own perfume and the Boss Oranges are quite long lasting and slightly musky.

If you like vanilla, then Guerlain Shalimar is available on Ebay.
Perfume Parlour, Lynn Young, Al Rehab, Miltons and vintage perfumes from Ebay like Tweed are my favourites. I'd wear Mitsouko more often if it werent for the price tag.

Vivienne Westwood's Boudoir. I've never found anything else to rival this and it gets better throughout the day

Alien by Thierry Mugler is my go to scent. But it is quite strong. When someone walks past me and they are wearing it I can tell. I love it though and will always be my go to perfume. I always get so many compliments.

I also find Avon perfumes last a long time too. I love Little black Dress. Cheap and cheerful!
