To ask what is your favourite perfume that you can actually smell after an hour?

Lots of times someone will walk past me and there will be an overriding whiff of a gorgeous perfume they're wearing (should I ask what it is, would that be weird?). I can never seem to find one that lasts a good while.

An hour ago I put on Cacherel, Noa, and I swear it's gone already...but smelled lovely for the first 5 minutes. Have I just gotten used to it or is it just crap? I just want a lovely, sweet, vanilla type fragrance that lasts a bit longer but have yet to find it.

I love Ghost's Deep Night, and Angel (thierry mugler?) but I've run out and can't remember if they lasted well. I've actually got a Jade Goody one that lasts pretty well despite being very cheap! I'd love Shalimar, but don't want to waste money if it doesn't linger. I've also tried a Kate Moss one (horrid), and Givenchy-irresistible, which I think was quite decent. Any good recommendations?

I sprayed Lush what would love do on my wrist at about 8am and i can still smell it now.
However I do think it's largely down to your nose becoming blind to the scent because I've been complimented a few times on my perfumes (largely celeb fodder that can be had for £15 from savers) and I haven't been able to smell it.

lemureyes · 12/10/2017 10:31

I think you just get used to the smell. I use Emporio Armani Diamonds - Rose
I really like it because it has a floral hint to it (all the others I tried didn't have it just smelled of chemicals)

specialsubject · 12/10/2017 10:32

You get used to it and block it out. Those around you do not, which is why you got that whiff from a passer by. She may also have just blasted herself with it.

To many people, all perfumes are horrible stinks - so if you work indoors, please don't top it up.

TheFaceOnMars · 12/10/2017 10:38

Opium. My all time favourite. Its very strong for the first 2 hours but after that its lovely. I can smell it the next day on myself and on clothing and bedding. Its mine and DH's favourite perfume. He says it tastes lovely Wink

Nickynackynoodle · 12/10/2017 10:38

Other people can definitely smell it after an hour. Don't overdose on it...

anothernextsale · 12/10/2017 10:40

Advertising must work as I've recently bought Gucci Blush perfume and I really like it. As others say I think we get noseblind to it as I have had some compliments asking what I was wearing but I can't smell it anymore.

Bumdishcloths · 12/10/2017 10:45

Shay and Blue's Atropa Belladonna is lovely - an acquired taste but I love it and it lasts beautifully.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 12/10/2017 10:48

Liz Earle no.15 and no.20 last ages for me, I can still smell them the next day before I shower! I only do one spray.

Goldfishshoals · 12/10/2017 10:50

You've gotten used to it. Don't make the error so many make of putting on more and more because you can barely smell it, when strangers can smell you from miles away...

mogulfield · 12/10/2017 10:51

Chanel perfume lasts ages on me 👍

User1457 · 12/10/2017 10:51

Estée Lauder modern muse rouge is a dream! People always comment on it, it's bloody expensive so I get DH to buy it at the airport and only spray it when I am going out or to a wedding etc. Zara do their own brand perfumes for £10 and most of them are similar to other more expensive fragrances. That's my everyday perfume.

Trampire · 12/10/2017 10:52

Chanel.

However my favourite is an oldie called Sunflowers. Can't beat it. It's very cheap now.

Mumthedogsbeensick · 12/10/2017 10:52

Cerruti 1881 works for me as an everyday perfume. And Lidl’s Suddenly Madame Glamour which is a dupe of Chanel Mademoiselle and only costs £3 has great staying power too. I love J’adore too but it’s pricey so I only wear it for nights out etc

Flimp · 12/10/2017 10:54

Jo Malone tuberose angelica lasts a good four + hours on me. I can often smell it driving home from work. Maybe my colleagues hate me Blush

CarlHickbread · 12/10/2017 10:55

Lancôme La Vie Est Belle, I’ve been stopped quite a few times to be complimented on this hours after I’ve sprayed it on myself.

I’ve just run out actually Sad

Pigofwar · 12/10/2017 10:58

Agree with PP - if you’re smelling it on yourself after a day at work, you’re wearing too much.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 12/10/2017 11:02

Organza by Givenchy :). Although I rotate my scents quite a bit, which I think stops me going nose-blind quite so fast!

shakingmyhead1 · 12/10/2017 11:03

Chanel no.5, layer it with the body products and it lasts nicely, but you really dont want to waft it about when you walk past people, after a few hours you wont be noticing it unless you sniff yourself as you will be used to it

peachgreen · 12/10/2017 11:04

Noa is one of my faves but it's an EDT so it won't last as long as an EDP - that's why it's so cheap.

Elphame · 12/10/2017 11:10

First by Van Cleef and Arpels. I get loads of people commenting on how lovely it is and asking what it is. A couple have now started wearing it themselves. Grin

If you like Chanel you'd probably like this one

withlotsoflove · 12/10/2017 11:12

I don't think you are using too much just because you can smell it later in the day.
Some good quality perfumes will stay on the skin and evolve. Developing the different layers as the perfume warms.
Parfume will always last longer than an edt.

Kleptronic · 12/10/2017 11:26

Tom Ford Velvet Orchid. It's not as marmite (!) as the Black Orchid, more floral, but lasts all day, with an interesting undertone. Dear but I love it.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 12/10/2017 11:44

I think it's generally thought if you can smell your perfume after 5 minutes of putting it on you're wearing too much? Doesn't mean other people can't smell it.

londonfeather · 12/10/2017 11:44

If you want something strong, lasting and vanilla-esq try allure by Chanel. It lasts days!

Puppymouse · 12/10/2017 11:45

Another Chanel devotee here. Always use the EDP as it is stronger and lasts better. Get lots of compliments but can't smell it on myself.
