To ask what is your favourite perfume that you can actually smell after an hour?

Lots of times someone will walk past me and there will be an overriding whiff of a gorgeous perfume they're wearing (should I ask what it is, would that be weird?). I can never seem to find one that lasts a good while.

An hour ago I put on Cacherel, Noa, and I swear it's gone already...but smelled lovely for the first 5 minutes. Have I just gotten used to it or is it just crap? I just want a lovely, sweet, vanilla type fragrance that lasts a bit longer but have yet to find it.

I love Ghost's Deep Night, and Angel (thierry mugler?) but I've run out and can't remember if they lasted well. I've actually got a Jade Goody one that lasts pretty well despite being very cheap! I'd love Shalimar, but don't want to waste money if it doesn't linger. I've also tried a Kate Moss one (horrid), and Givenchy-irresistible, which I think was quite decent. Any good recommendations?

Guerlain Mitsouko is my favourite - I have several Guerlain EDTs and Shalimar perfume for nights out (don't get many though).

redfragglebiker · 12/10/2017 11:53

Flowerbomb by Viktor and Rolfe is one of very very very few perfumes that actually last all day on me. The newih Chanel one (Gabrielle) is also a good one for lasting power

kaytee87 · 12/10/2017 11:56

The reason you can't smell it after a while is that your brain has processed the smell, deemed it safe and 'forgotten' about it. Other people can still smell it.

DeadMorose · 12/10/2017 11:58

Lanvin Eclat d’Arpege is my favourite and I can smell it, although I can smell it better on my sister (we use the same perfume). It lasts ages and I keep getting asked what is it.

Maudlinmaud · 12/10/2017 11:59

I love anything by Roberto Cavalli. The scent of most of them linger for hours. Try his gold one. Amazing.

BulletFox · 12/10/2017 12:03

Love shalimar! I've noticed when you spritz perfume on it 'fades' until later on you're stationary in a queue e.g. supermarket, post office and it returns with a vengeance and you hope you're not fumigating everyone around

tccat · 12/10/2017 12:43

Guerlain Insolence is my favourite, I've had comments from strangers when wearing it asking what it is, it's a beautiful unique smell, quite sweet smelling and just lovely

numbmum83 · 12/10/2017 12:46

Ck eternity . I always get people asking what I'm wearing when I'm shopping .

NetflixandBill · 12/10/2017 12:53

212 VIP is lovely, I like it for work as it seems quite grown up to me. I also love Dolce by Dolce and Burberry Body

PutTheBunnyBackInTheBox · 12/10/2017 12:56

CK Obsession. I used to wear it in my late teens. I remember having to spray it about 2 hours before I went out so it calmed down a bit Grin

I don't wear it anymore but I still love it.

Montsti · 12/10/2017 13:04

I wear Angel by Thierry Mugler and people often comment on it even after it's been on for hours....I wear the eau de toilette but the eau de parfum is stronger so maybe try an eau de parfum??

Motoko · 12/10/2017 13:26

There's a thread in Style and Beauty all about perfumes. I've discovered lots of new ones, and found places to order samples from. Ordering samples is great because you can try a range of perfumes without having to go somewhere to try them out. They come in little vials of 1or 2ml, often with spray tops.

Here's the latest thread.

Where do you apply your scent - wrists, collar bone? Sometimes a mist of it in your hair can give a nice waft.

Agree with the posters making the point about scent blindness but undoubtedly some pack far more of a punch than others. Try 4160 Tuesdays Sunshine and Pancakes for a nice gourmand. And as you say Angel really lasts although it can be rather cloying so go easy.

scaryteacher · 12/10/2017 13:31

I like Chanel 19, and Amarige by Givenchy seems to last as well.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 12/10/2017 13:34

tccat I’m also an Insolence devotee. DP bought it for me one valentines as a bit of a gag as ‘You are an insolent sod sometimes ‘ Grin. I’ve never met anyone else who wears it. I think it smells like Parma Violets.

OP Chanel always lingers beautifully for me. Chance is my favourite. Whatever you choose though go for the EDP not the toilette and spray it in front of you and walk through.

PhatSlag · 12/10/2017 13:34

Di Palomo Wild Fig and Grape smells gorgeous and always lasts all day.

Mari50 · 12/10/2017 13:34

I wear Stella Mccartney, get loads of compliments about how nice I smell. Lasts well on me (from what I gather because people will comment a good 5 hours after i’ve applied it- my job means I do get physically close to people so I know I’m not polluting everyone else’s air)

EvilDoctorBallerinaVampireDuck · 12/10/2017 13:35

Icon by Lush, but they don't make it anymore. 😭😭😭😭😭😭

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 12/10/2017 13:37

If you like Noa, you might like Prada Candy Florale.
It's just gorgeous and much stronger than Noa .
They're my current perfumes along with my special occasion J'adore.

Dearlittleflo · 12/10/2017 13:37

Jo Malone lasts ages, I think- when I wear any of that stuff I can still smell it hours later (which makes me worry that it's too strong).

ItWentInMyEye · 12/10/2017 13:41

Jean Paul gaultier classique. It's been 'my' scent for 15 years so far Grin

BulletFox · 12/10/2017 13:45

Wernith never tried Mitsouko. I was curious about what it's like. I have a couple of Guerlain perfumes and miller harris hand cream in lumiere doree which I really like

MusicToMyEars800 · 12/10/2017 13:47

I agree with london Chanel Allure is gorgeous and lasts all day without being overpowering, I'd recommend getting the bottle with the light pink lid.

MusicToMyEars800 · 12/10/2017 13:49

Britney spears perfumes are also nice and Vanilla-esque, They aren't overly pricey but don't smell cheap either.

Sunnystars · 12/10/2017 14:00

Have you been using Noa for a while without a break op?
I'm wearing Noa today and can still get a waft of it every now and then but I haven't worn it for a couple of weeks.
I have several on the go currently and rotate them as the mood takes me, I seem to be able to smell them all still.
