To be pissed off that Greggs vary regionally?

Why can't I get a greggs iced split in the home counties? And why are greggs bread puddings not avaliable in the south?

Are regional tastes so different that the whole uk can't enjoy a nasty but strangely alluring and edible iced split?

What's a stottie?

FeelingAggrieved · 05/10/2017 18:44

YABU. They can't serve all the regional variations.

Silvertap · 05/10/2017 18:44

Not many Welsh on here - I haven’t seen Lardy cake mentioned yet!

Christinayangstwistedsista · 05/10/2017 18:46

You can't have a roll and square sausage without a tattie scone

maddiemookins16mum · 05/10/2017 19:01

London cheesecake, is that the one with the desicrated coconut on top in slivers?

MadameJosephine · 05/10/2017 19:09

In the Sunderland branch of Greggs they now sell these Shock

Has anybody visited their outlet stores? I assume there are more of them than just the one fairly local to me, but I could be wrong. We do have the headquarters nearby, and I'm think they have a factory there too. I must have a look some time - Gregg's doesn't tend to do it for me (as a cheese-hating vegetarian, my choices are limited) but I'll consider buying most things if the bargains are good enough Grin

Roversandrhodes · 05/10/2017 19:41

There's Greggs in the south ? Thought it was a north east thing

WoollyMollyMonkey · 05/10/2017 19:44

Did you know you can get Greggs sausage rolls and steak bakes, to name just a couple of items, in Iceland to bake at home?!

Greggs took over Braggs - there was a Braggs bakery behind the shop on Alum Rock Road in Birmingham. They did amazing strawberry tarts and custard slices (which were as thick as a brick almost!) Ummm! Miss Braggs, love Greggs but miss Braggs.

This thread desperately needs some pictures.

forfuckssakenet · 05/10/2017 19:45

Some more pictures I mean.

What on earth is that ! ?

maddiemookins16mum · 05/10/2017 20:11

A puff pastry square filled with jam, topped with fondant icing and shredded coconut.

forfuckssakenet · 05/10/2017 20:14

Yes! Exactly 😍

ALemonyPea · 05/10/2017 20:46

MadameJosephine, that’s a Milligan’s pasty, DH makes me buy them for him whenever I go in to town. Minging.

A stottie (aka stottie cake) is large round bread. It's a Geordie delicacy and I miss them. www.wikiwand.com/en/Stottie_cake

flyingspaghettimonster · 05/10/2017 21:24

You are all being utterly unreasonable. Because I'm stuck in USA and I NEED a Gregg's cheese and onion pastry right now. And a custard tart and a sausage roll. It's not fair.

FloControl · 05/10/2017 21:35

flying - do Dairy Queen sell that stuff ?

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 05/10/2017 21:36

East London here and we have bread puddings but not iced splits.... they sound delicious though.

ShangriLaLaLa · 05/10/2017 21:52

Whoever needed to find Lardy Cake - my local Waitrose has it, but we are in Wales. Not sure if it’s a regional thing. My granny used to make it but you put on pounds just looking at it. No, make that stones. Delicious.

aveline161 · 05/10/2017 21:56

Just to add, Greggs took over the Bakers Oven in Lincoln; I was terrified it would be the end of caramel doughnuts (a finger doughnut with caramel icing and chocolate curls) but it was adopted and still available to this day (and in Norwich where I now live). Incidentally I've always understood putting things in baps (or whatever you want to call them!) like pies etc is a Wigan thing. To put a pie/ pizza slice/ anything in a bap is to 'Wigan it up a bit'

aveline161 · 05/10/2017 21:59

I can't believe I had to get halfway through this thread for someone to mention the peach Melba!! I lived in N. Yorks for a couple of years way back when, and they were a staple in life!! Several times a week after work I'd stop in and get one with a cheese savoury roll, and when I moved back down to Devon there were no Greggs to be seen Angry When we finally got one fairly locally a few years later, NO SIGN OF PEACH MELBAS ANYWHERE 😡😡😡

FannyFifer · 05/10/2017 23:07
