AIBU?

To be pissed off that Greggs vary regionally?

Why can't I get a greggs iced split in the home counties? And why are greggs bread puddings not avaliable in the south?

Are regional tastes so different that the whole uk can't enjoy a nasty but strangely alluring and edible iced split?

Living in the south I really miss stotties. I do have a visiting family door policy tho that is no stotties no entry!

I think it's brilliant that a huge national chain like Greggs responds to local baking traditions and knows its local customer base. Just wish you got that with the big supermarkets.

Now off to my local Greggs in S/central England to see if I can work out what's local and what's generic! Grin

This thread has been a revelation. Have never set foot inside Greggs since I moved here over 10 years ago, and never suspected it might serve regional delicacies. I've lived in a good few places so have been surprised in turn by stotties, macaroni pies and pies in a roll, but the best thing I remember eating was from a bakery in Dundee. It was like the elephant's foot described by pps, but had cherries inside it as well.
I haven't been to Dundee for at least 14 years, but I still dream of it.

Cadenza if you're desperate for a corned beef pastie try Iceland, they sell Greggs corned beef pasties in ours (to cook at home).

Fanny the bright yellow one that looks a bit like a French fancy

Report
FannyFifer · 06/10/2017 16:06

The two yellow ones are a French fancy & a pineapple cake.Smile
Don’t think we get peach Melbas here, never heard of them.

Ok then you're forgiven, the pineapple one definitely looks like the Peach Melba though! Obviously they only have a certain number of cake designs to work with...

They don't do Tottenham cakes in Wales. They don't even know what they are. I tried to make my own but it wasn't the same.

ham in a breadcake please' like it was the most everyday thing ever, which it was, but to Birmingham Greggs person I might as well have been asking for a unicorn kebab

If you'd asked for a ham cob you'd have been fine. If you'd attempt asking for a ham cob wherever you're from in the North of England you're from would probably treated to equally blank

Is there a Greggs in Norwich? I am visiting soon and have never been to Norwich or eaten in Greggs - is there a regional delicacy I ought to try??
Feeling ridiculously excited!

Is an iced bun with cream. Not a hot dog roll.

Movingonup you can get a nice Portuguese custard tart in Nando's

I'm thinking I should just have a long weekend in Lisbon instead. We don't have a Nando's where I live so that seems the obvious solution Wink

They did them for the technical on Bake Off this week.

writing there are Gregg's in Norwich! There is one in Anglia Square with a cafe but you probably don't want to go there if you are visiting! Its a bit grotty, although with well hidden gems! There are a couple in the city centre round the market too Grin

Have just found out Greggs is on Uber Eats. But it doesn't have stotties in the sandwich section AngryAngry This, in the very home of Greggs, is unacceptable.

I must admit that I have never been in a Greggs. There was a programme about them on tv - showing how the food was manufactured and the sausage roll line put me off for life. A layer of pastry was laid on a long assembly line upon which was extruded a continuous line of what looked like grey goo (this apparently was the 'sausage' filling), then pastry on top and off it went into the oven. God only knows what was in that grey goo but you can forget freshly minced pork.

Not my favourite thing to eat from anywhere, however, have you ever looked inside a sausage roll? Even the poshest ones have grey goo(or grey stringy stuff Hmm) in them. Cooked pork mince IS grey! Hmm
