To be pissed off that Greggs vary regionally?

Why can't I get a greggs iced split in the home counties? And why are greggs bread puddings not avaliable in the south?

Are regional tastes so different that the whole uk can't enjoy a nasty but strangely alluring and edible iced split?

Moving, there's a deli/cafe in Stoke Newington called Camia that does nice ones. If that's any good to you.

tottenham cake also spotted in between winchester and portsmouth!

we call it pink cake :) its dds absolute fave

DumbledoresApprentice · 04/10/2017 18:05

I love Tottenham cake. Until this thread I didn't realise that it wasn't sold everywhere. It was a regular school dinners pudding when I was at primary school. Before Jamie Oliver spoiled all the fun school dinners. Grin

I miss peach Melbas the most, didn't realise they were a northern thing until I moved to the East Midlands!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 04/10/2017 18:50

Sadly not Rhiannon unless I move but thank you.

Millerzingers · 04/10/2017 18:51

I'm in South Wales and I've noticed they've changed the name of a corned beef pasty to a corned beef slice Shock.

Do you have corned beef pastys in England?

I actually love greggs, tuna crunch baguette and the caramel shortbreads are just as nice as the ones in costa but you get 4 for the same price.

I worked in and around West Yorkshire for years and never heard anyone say breadcakes. Is it very local to Sheffield?

Their called tea cakes in West Yorkshire, and the ones with currants are called currant tea cakes.

Our regional Greggs has started doing steak and cheese pastry rolls, they're gorgeous.

CondimentQueen · 04/10/2017 19:07

@ItsNachoCheese that’s the best news I’ve heard all week! We’ve recently moved back so I’ve not been in to check all is well. That’s up there on the to-do list!

TheDevilMadeMeDoIt · 04/10/2017 19:08

Elephant's foot picture

I'm from Sheffield, breadcake is plain bread, fruit ones are teacakes.

As observed, in West Yorkshire plain bread is a teacake, currant ones are fruit teacakes. Imagine the result when West Yorks MiL asked me to get her six teacakes. (She only told me when I got back with them that she wanted to make salmon sandwiches Smile)

And where do you stand on the Sally Lunn/iced fruit teacake divide?

Helspopje · 04/10/2017 19:09

They did away with cream apple turnovers
I have not forgiven them

Sayyouwill · 04/10/2017 19:20

@LineysRun stottie

SilverySurfer · 04/10/2017 19:37

I must admit that I have never been in a Greggs. There was a programme about them on tv - showing how the food was manufactured and the sausage roll line put me off for life. A layer of pastry was laid on a long assembly line upon which was extruded a continuous line of what looked like grey goo (this apparently was the 'sausage' filling), then pastry on top and off it went into the oven. God only knows what was in that grey goo but you can forget freshly minced pork.

Hmmalittlefishy · 04/10/2017 19:42

Tottenham pie and peach melba sound lovely! I'm going to have to try more regional varieties on my travels
I miss the chicken and bacon baguettes and the Mexican mayo oval bites but....
Most importantly I have never forgiven Greggs for getting rid of the most delicious seasonal treat.....

Ginger ghosts

The memories are too upsetting. Waited all year for their arrival and then nothing SadSad

An elephant foot is essentially the same as bollur by the looks of it. Do they have jam in too or just cream? What part of the country do I have to go to for an elephant foot?

ShatnersBassoon · 04/10/2017 20:48

I'm in an area that is bereft of any Greggs regional variations. To be fair to Greggs, there is literally nothing they could make that is unique to our dull region. I'm VERY jealous of these butter pies, stotties, macaroni concoctions etc. They truly are the masters of carb deliciousness.

ChampagneSocialist1 · 04/10/2017 20:51

Elephants feet don't contain jam and I've only ever encountered them in South Yorkshire

ChampagneSocialist1 · 04/10/2017 20:54

Does anyone know anywhere which sells Lardy cakes which sound horrid but the descriptions of them are lush

Dozyoldtwonk · 04/10/2017 20:58

I worked at Greggs in my late teens 1999-2002 ish. I miss the dripping cakes, pineapple tarts, derby biscuits, rock cakes, pizza slices and tuna baguettes (no faff or papp, literally just tuna mayo and lettuce). I also miss the cheap as chips prices - Greggs is a lot pricier now.

We used to get a free lunch for anything longer than a 6 hour shift. Those were the days. Grin

ItsNachoCheese · 04/10/2017 21:09

condimentqueen more than happy to help a fellow custard filled fudge doughnut fan out Grin i hope you get to have one soon and its brilliant 🍩

dnwig · 04/10/2017 21:10

Butteries! I think they are an Aberdeen thing?

Hard to find them where I am but they are amazing with tomato soup.

DumbledoresApprentice · 04/10/2017 21:10

You can't gave it all I suppose. I was probably being over-optimistic to expect jam too. Alas, Yorkshire is a long way from here.

ChampagneSocialist1 · 04/10/2017 21:12

Love butteries like a squashed salty croissant only ever found them in Aberdeen

ChampagneSocialist1 · 04/10/2017 21:15

Also love fresh morning rolls from Scotland. They have the optimum amount of crusty outside to soft inside.

NC4now · 04/10/2017 22:20

x2boys I suspect we're neighbours.

Butter pie?
