Crushed velvet sofas/beds/curtains.

Also wooden letters in the kitchen/bathroom that's say 'Cook'/'Bath' etc telling you what each room is for.

While I'm at it- wall 'art' (stickers) with cheesy phrases.

I'm poor. Everything I have in my living room is second hand. Not following trends and just accepting stuff you like saves you money. Buying fashionable nik naked is a complete waste of money ie rose gold everything.

Brittbugs80 · 01/10/2017 15:51

There's a woman on FB/Instagram who works in MLM and has decided that she's now an interiors expert and is absolutely destroying her 400 year old cottage with twig hearts pinned into the 400 year old doors. They're EVERYWHERE

She posted the other day about having a ridiculous amount of quotes all around her house, wasn't it something like 60 plaques?!

I'm waiting for her to start flogging her upcycled stuff alongside her MLM stuff!

BadTasteFlump · 01/10/2017 15:51

Ollivander I love that colour. I used some grey paint recently but it looks blue on the wall - yes I should have used a tester pot first - but it's definitely grey in the tin... what colour did u use pls? Smile

Ollivander84 · 01/10/2017 15:53

Bad - it's Dulux trade vinyl matt (wipeable!) in chic shadow. I have polished pebble in the living room which is a lot paler

Uptheduffy · 01/10/2017 15:54

I must be misunderstanding the pictures you're referring to, Rusty. Is it like life-size wall art or something? Because just a photo in a frame of a family smiling is like normal from normalsville. Nothing arrogant, and I'm sure, most (all?) mothers think their dcs are beautiful. That's love for you.

TheDodgyShoesOfDrFoster · 01/10/2017 15:55

My house is mid-century modern: open plan on the ground floor with huge glass walls. The way the light goes through the space is really uplifting, and I find it lovely to live in -- if you live alone, as I do.

I can't even imagine anyone with a family living in my house! It would be far too noisy/ impractical/ lacking in privacy/ full of hard hazardous surfaces.

I bought this house precisely because of its "loft-living style in a large townhouse" qualities (which is how the estate agent wankily described it) but I'm very aware it will be really hard to re-sell, should I want to, as it's a very family-unfriendly house but too large and expensive for most singles/ childfree couples. I'd better stay put.

NooNooHead1981 · 01/10/2017 15:55

I've painted my bedroom in Chic Shadow - the Dulux trade paint colour. It is lovely Ollivander84! Grin

mishfish · 01/10/2017 16:01

@Brittbugs80 over 100 🙄

Bluntness100 · 01/10/2017 16:02

Cheap laminate, you know the kind made to look like plastic blonde wood with the ubiquitous mass produced rug plonked in the middle and surrounded by shiny , slippy, leather sofas.

Fire places with pretend electric or gas fires or filled with twee crap.

endehors · 01/10/2017 16:04

I saw a nice old armchair covered in purple crushed velvet, it looked rather nice. Those sofas wouldn't be my taste whatever they were covered in. The shiny silver grey is particularly horrible though.

Agree with grey, painted interiors and exteriors. Far too fashionable at the moment.

I like that sofa, rainbows.

Discotits · 01/10/2017 16:12

I thought this was too far with the grey paint...

What's wrong with metal advertising signs? Are large metal bottle tops not all the rage?

Brittbugs80 · 01/10/2017 16:28

@Brittbugs80 over 100

At least she's smashing it though...Wink

dontslouchdarling · 01/10/2017 16:32

My bedroom is painted a light grey but my bed is black wrought iron and my bedding is deep plum. Black and white photos on the walls in black frames. Antique oak furniture. It's a very calming room. There is a get and black sign over the doorway that says "And they all lived happily ever after". A friend bought it for me as it did sum up a dark period in my life that finally turned out well. I wouldn't have chosen but do look at it from time to time and think how apt it was.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 01/10/2017 16:33

I've never understood the trend for loads of cushions all over the bed. And those throw things people put over the bottom of the bed. And those satiny bedspread things. My sil always has loads of cushions on her bed and has bought 4yo dd loads for hers!

Nipplehair · 01/10/2017 16:34

I don't like the so called inspirational quotes or sayings, nor the wood words such as relax, bathe etc.
The only words l would have on my wall are " My life is f@?£€@ up".

EndofSummer · 01/10/2017 16:38

I like grey on woodwork, or kitchens or bluey grey.

Love yellow.
Hate coffee tables.

Hate blinds.
Hate pine.
Hate black fridges but have one. DH.
Dislike letter things but have letter cushions as my child loves them.
Love naff and fun cushions, like in the shape of dogs. My favourite are in the shape of a NICE biscuit.
Dislike clutter.
Love enormous pictures and open plan is lovely.

Love seeing different decor, like that we are all different. Even like the granny look, you know old wood cabinets and porcelain figures, remind me of my childhood.

Bambamrubblesmum · 01/10/2017 16:42

I always chuckle at those 'bath or 'cook' signs. It's like you're wandering round the house needing a reminder what each room is actually for. Fuck me I'm in the kitchen what do I do now!!!...oh it's okay there's wooden sign over there telling me. Phew!

Pagwatch · 01/10/2017 16:42

Wait -
Grey
Shutters
Velvet chair
Letters as decoration.

I want my prize

StellaRockafella · 01/10/2017 16:44

Pretty much everything in blogger Erica Davies' house - velvet sofa, words spelling out things, mismatched furniture and styles and jarring colours. It's over styled and overly without style which is quite a feat!

Lilyhatesjaz · 01/10/2017 16:45

I have velvet curtains in my bedroom we decided that shopping for curtains with 2 small children would be so hideous we just ordered them from argos for the whole house cheap plain ones does the job.

BroomHandledMouser · 01/10/2017 16:50

@Bluntness100

I have a real fire place with tat....does that count? 😂
