Crushed velvet sofas/beds/curtains.

Also wooden letters in the kitchen/bathroom that's say 'Cook'/'Bath' etc telling you what each room is for.

While I'm at it- wall 'art' (stickers) with cheesy phrases.

What terrifying kind of radiator is that?

Report
ArcheryAnnie · 05/10/2017 11:15

Also greige has the advantage of not showing the soot marks so badly if you have crappy old radiators which mark the walls above. Put that in your Home Interiors and smoke it.

greentea4me agree on the singing! And to put the cherry on the cake, although the singing was advertised as part of the experience, afterwards the musicians came and stood by our table with a cap out, and were very put out when we did not want to pay extra.

We'd have drank a lot more, despite the outrageous prices, but the service was so bad we only got one drinks order in. The food was so mediocre one of our table left almost all of his.

Grim all round! (But I enjoyed being aghast at the whole experience with my friends.)

So I can still paint my (horrible 90s pine- hand-me-downs from MIL) guest bedroom furniture grey? It's either grey or smokey blue, but grey is less likely to turn out horrible. They certainly aren't staying bright orange pine...

Mirrored furniture. Hate it.

insomnibrat - your friend and I are looking at the same forecasting information!
Yes, salmons, terracottas, greens, teals, smoky blues. Can't quite work out the metallics, though.
All this against a backdrop of a neutral colour, which still has a greige vibe... so you Greige Gals and Guys can rest easy :)

I mean, it's like looking at catwalk trends and working out which ones will filter through. Most don't and a few do...

(Can't wait to see the back of 'the' Bell Sleeve!)

Places like Pinterest have lots of pictures if you put in 'colour trends for 2018'

ArcheryAnnie oh goodness, I agree. Absolutely ghastly experience with the most dreadful singing. I went for a party there and had the most hideous time. And someone (never found out who) ran off without paying and so as one of the last to leave I had to cover the rest of the bill!

Ishouldbedoingsomething - the reviews of sofa.com sofas on trust pilot are horrible and I have two friends who are bitterly disappointed by the ones they bought from there. They fall apart very quickly.

I would urge anyone buying a sofa or whatever - major items of furniture to read the reviews. Some products turn out okay but the delivery companies can be awful.

Sofas in the kitchen and the dining table at the other end of the house from the kitchen- what the bloody hell is that all about?

Your sofa will end up smelling of a thousand dinners, and you have to carry all of your food 3 rooms away to be able to eat it. Why not just put the dining table in the kitchen, and the sofas and armchairs in the living room?

I made So cal coastal up. Though it does sound like a thing.

I thought that, holly, but even googling that didn't help. Maybe the think it has in common is spindly furniture? Otherwise could not describe a single "look".

As I clicked on this thread again, after reading a few days ago, I was thinking exactly the same Canadiangirl! Smile

Ah the voice of reason from Canadiangirl
I couldn’t agree more. It is fun , harmless and it’s anonymous, no doubt someone has listed something here I might like or have in my home but I don’t care.

I find it funny how offended some people are getting. Most people are going to have some trends they love and some trends they hate and THAT'S OKAY! Sometimes it's fun to snark about trivial shit. This is a thread specifically for dissing home trends. It's not like we're mocking people in their own homes.

After years of magnolia rental flats, I happily painted my new house with various shades of "greige". I know some people aren't into the grey trend and again that's fine. I personally loathe "feature walls".

I also love all the antique brown wood furniture that's supposedly incredibly unfashionable right now (and which you can get for incredibly cheap at charity shops!) and I'm allergic to Scandinavian minimalism.

What is So Cal Coastal style, 7days? I've tried googling and it hasn't helped.

Crushed velvet has its' place (dunno where, but it must do, somewhere) but the worst place I've ever seen it used is in Sarastro, an eye-wateringly expensive "theatrical" restaurant in Covent Garden, where the napkins are made out of horribly slippery (and non-absorbent) nylon crushed velvet. There's loads of the same material in drapes there too so I think they just thought "what'll we do with these offcuts? AHA!" It's vile.

Forgot to make the point that the height of the pole is around the depth of the header tape, or else it would be visible from outside without the voile up. And yes it's a shaky photo in a north facing room!
