Paris. I adore the place.
Amsterdam, particularly the Van Gogh gallery.
York Minster - I've lived in and around York for 25 years and it genuinely still takes my breath away, even as an Atheist.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 13/09/2017 04:16

Yosemite. My then boyfriend insisted we took some time out from San Francisco to visit and I was a bit " Oh, if we must "

It was jaw droppingly beautiful, unbelievably peaceful and simultaneously majestic. I keep hassling DP to go with me for a holiday there and he's very " Oh, if we must " and I'm like: "Just you wait."

That said, the Grand Canyon made me cry. The scale of it was staggering.

hophop333 · 13/09/2017 04:25

National Parks (anywhere in the world) are far more breathtaking imo than landmarks in a city. Emerging yourself in the landscape by doing a trek/camping/climbing a mountain is far more rewarding and as an added bonus you're usually not bombarded by tacky tourist stalls and a million other tourists either!

Caprianna · 13/09/2017 05:15

Phillipa12 · 13/09/2017 05:56

The Menin gate in Ypres, so big with so many names, makes you really understand the enormity of what happened.

Beachcomber · 13/09/2017 06:06

The Grand Canyon made me cry too as did Yosemite for sheer beauty.

I love the Eiffel Tower, it is an incredible piece of engineering for the time.

Love the Forth bridges especially seen from a plane flying into Edinburgh airport as it means I'm home (live abroad).

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 13/09/2017 06:21

I loved everything about Paris. I was less overwhelmed by the Eiffel Tower than I thought I'd be. Dh suggested a visit to Notre Dame and I was yeah ok wasn't fussed either way but it took my breath away. It was the most amazing building I've ever seen.

Going to Rome next year cannot wait there is so much I want to see. Going to visit Pompeii while we are in Italy I've wanted to go since I was at school.

Cailleach666 · 13/09/2017 06:32

Borobudur in Central Java.

toopeoply · 13/09/2017 06:32

The 9/11 museum at the tower site in new York. Probably spent about 6 hours in there.

Edinburgh, not necessarily inside the castle but the city as a whole.

Rome.

SabineUndine · 13/09/2017 06:38

Delphi. Been twice. I was with a tour group but abandoned them, left the hotel early and got there just as the site opened, about 8am. Had the place to myself. It's magical.

Also Venice, the French Riviera and Capri.

BikeRunSki · 13/09/2017 06:38

Arches National Park, Utah
Yosemite

YorkieButtons · 13/09/2017 06:40

Niagara Falls, I went in 1998 whilst doing Camp America in NY state and we went on a road trip across to Buffalo.

It was fantastic, went on the boat ride under the falls and kept the blue bin bag thingy you're supposed to wear as a souvenir so got absolutely soaked.

Also the Empire State building was fab.

Biggest regret is that I never went to the Statue of Liberty! Was in America for 3 months and never went.

Koln cathedral is magnificent.

Second Sigirya in Sri Lanka. Breathtaking.

maddiemookins16mum · 13/09/2017 06:59

The Taj Mahal really was incredible, especially at 6am. The first time I saw Dubrovnik from the top road over the town also sticks in my memory.
