Another school uniform one! Girls being forced to wear dresses?

My DD's school have sent a letter out stating 'girls must wear skirts or dresses' - 1950s much?? Surely this is ridiculous and shouldn't be mandated? Or AIBU?

Complain. In writing and insist this is changed immediately.

It's illegal!

If they won't budge, governors!

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 11/09/2017 13:04

Most girl's uniforms are skirts... Why does it bother you so much? Is your dd desperate to wear trousers?

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 11/09/2017 13:05

It's not illegal.

mrsmayitstimetogo · 11/09/2017 13:05

totally unreasonable, and you should protest on principle!

Idontevencareanymore · 11/09/2017 13:05

Complaint I think!
It's not OK for the girls that would prefer trousers.

treaclesoda · 11/09/2017 13:05

What age is she? None of the secondary schools where I live allow girls to wear trousers, although the primaries turn a blind eye to it.

MyDcAreMarvel · 11/09/2017 13:06

Yabu , uniform is uniform.

WhereDidThatTurtleComeFrom · 11/09/2017 13:07

It's not illegal. It is shit though. If you search there have been several threads on this subject with good reasons why it's outdated and with ideas to speak to your head.

Wanderlust1984 · 11/09/2017 13:07

Yes my DD would like to wear trousers, she gets quite self conscious when it's windy like today that her skirt will blow up.

Yabu , uniform is uniform

Well except it isn't. Because the boys aren't wearing it, so no uniformity.

EamonnWright · 11/09/2017 13:08

People know the rules before sending their kids to school so it surprises me when folk complain every year.

It's a place to learn, not an extension for you to practice your Feminist ideology.

Nomoresunshine · 11/09/2017 13:08

Both my dd wear skirts at my insistance as they grow too quick to keep up with trouser length!!
And I am a tightwad. . .

FunkinEll · 11/09/2017 13:10

Same at my DC's school. I don't have any girls but it make me rage. One school mum once asked me why it even bothered me because I only had boys 🙄

WhereDidThatTurtleComeFrom · 11/09/2017 13:10

If you put girls in an outfit that's not Designed for play you make a statement. It also means the girls will wear 'girl shoes' because trainers don't match well which are expensive and ime not very good.

WhereDidThatTurtleComeFrom · 11/09/2017 13:10

Do you have to be a feminist to care if little girls feel comfortable?

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 11/09/2017 13:12

Well except it isn't. Because the boys aren't wearing it, so no uniformity.

Except the boys will have their own uniform rules won't they?

That's what it boils down to though, Where.

Do you think school trousers are comfortable on all boys? If it was down to comfort then everyone, including teachers, would be swanning about in shorts and T shirts.

Wanderlust1984 · 11/09/2017 13:14

Thanks all with the helpful comments, I'll definitely search for the other threads x

I'm pretty sure the wind won't blow their trousers off though? 🙄

I'm not a fucking feminist ffs. It's not an insult Confused

If I was told I had to wear skirts to work, I'd be pissed off. I would be too, but there are companies up and down the land where this is the case.

MummaTwinkleToes · 11/09/2017 13:15

OP can DD wear shorts under her skirt?

EamonnWright · 11/09/2017 13:15

Ok wanderlust, if you wanted everyone to agree with you then you should have said.

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/09/2017 13:15

Complain. If trousers are so unsuitable why are they letting the boys wear them.

My dds prefer skirts (we have fit and cindort issues with trousers? But absolutely the choice to have trousers should be there.

Disgusting in 2017 that girls wanting to wear trousers is apparently little more than a feminist crusade Hmm

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/09/2017 13:16

Comfort

And auto correct issues Wink
