AIBU- Someone has used my unusual baby name

MmmmDonuts · 09/09/2017 20:32

I wanted my baby to have a one of a kind unique name.
I made up a name that I love. It's definetly never been used before.
(I realise this sounds dodgy already)

Anyway, my baby is 7 months old and someone in my town has just given birth and used the name.
I actually feel really gutted about it.

I realise I am about to be flamed in the comments.
BUt how can I feel less gutted about this? Meh

Having said that, even if the OP's baby is a Farrah then it's not exactly popular name right now so I guess she still has a unique name in a way...

EdmundCleverClogs · 09/09/2017 22:04

Either the OP changed her mind before registration or she doesn't know how to use Google. Everyone knows Farrah isn't an original name Confused.

silverbell64 · 09/09/2017 22:05

Admit to not wanting to read pages of shite. Please don't tell me its bear or lettice, or something mythical which is a trend at the moment?

VeryCunningStunt · 09/09/2017 22:06

There's no such thing as 'unique in a way'. Unique means an absolute one off. Uncommon or unusual or rare, yes. But not 'a bit unique-ish'

This is like that episode of SATC where someone steals Charlotte's made-up baby name, which is 'Shayla' (highly incongruous, in my view, with Charlotte's WASP persona)

silverbell64 · 09/09/2017 22:07

Farrah? hardly unique :)

FerretsAreFeminists · 09/09/2017 22:08

That's why I seriously doubt it is Farrah. Surely if you wanted a unique one of a kind name and you'd thought you'd come up with something original then you would still Google it just to make sure it really was original and didn't have any negative connotations associated with it, etc.

ButchyRestingFace · 09/09/2017 22:08

There was a female character in one my childhood books called Phryne. Google reveals this name is very unusual, although not unique, and I've certainly never heard of anyone called Phryne.

I quite liked it at the time. But I had shit taste in names as a kid. At age 9, I thought Dora was the most exotic name I'd ever heard... Hmm

Xeneth88 · 09/09/2017 22:09

Haha my mums name is Farrah. She hates it as it sounds like the noise a long, beer, fart/burp makes. She's 60. Not a new name. Cringing for the ops windy named baby

TheWeeWitch · 09/09/2017 22:10

Come back OP!

BewareOfDragons · 09/09/2017 22:10

I've met two primary aged children called Farrah...

LivingInMidnight · 09/09/2017 22:10

This thread is going to be a disappointing google alert for Farrah Franklin so I'll just add that I quite liked that song she had in 2001.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 09/09/2017 22:10

This is a strange thread. Farrah is clearly not a name you made up yourself, OP, so why this bizarre pretence that it is? Confused

silverbell64 · 09/09/2017 22:11

Bear for a boy is pretty stupid so is lettuce but hey. I like Farrah... tell your mum that's a beautiful name.

I always think of this when I see people complain about name stealing. I have a co-worker whose daughter is named Shayla, and she's 20. And, yeah, that's never a name Charlotte would use.

SonicBoomBoom · 09/09/2017 22:14

My mum's called Farrah too Grin

FerretsAreFeminists · 09/09/2017 22:15

My mum's called Sarah.

Xeneth88 · 09/09/2017 22:16

sonic ... Are you my sister Hmm

Xeneth88 · 09/09/2017 22:16

If so you owe me 30quid for Farrahs birthday present

Sayyouwill · 09/09/2017 22:16

Ahh but people like the idea of using a Romantic, exotic name. It makes them sound more exciting or well travelled which makes them sound more interesting. That's why so many people try to find utterly unique names.

SilverySurfer · 09/09/2017 22:17

Very funny Grin I don't think it will be long before the OP asks MNHQ to close the thread down for some spurious reason.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 09/09/2017 22:17

Absolutely loving the fact that you thought you made up Farrah!

silverbell64 · 09/09/2017 22:18

lets face it though the child is hardly going to go to the local comp by the sounds of this unique thread so it doesn't matter how weird or stupid the name is :)

anothermalteserplease · 09/09/2017 22:18

My daughter has a friend called Farrah

Shockers · 09/09/2017 22:18

The name is spelt Lettice.

I love it; DH said no.
