Was she being unreasonable? (First date thing)

Afternoon peeps.

Went on a bit of a date last night with someone I met about a week ago. We met when I did a fairly large job for her (I'm a tree surgeon and she had a large leylandii she needed removing) - did the job, had a bit of a laugh with her on the day and her 4 year old daughter.

Anyway she had my mobile number and later that night she text me to say great job etc etc and we just ended up texting and the odd phone call for about a week after the job, eventually she got around to the "fancy a drink one night" kinda thing. I said sure why not.

So off we go on our "date"- we only went to a nice quiet pub I know for some food, I drove so she could have a drink (she only had 2 glasses of wine though) and we had a really nice time, lots of laughing and getting to know each other, seemed to be going well.

On the drive home (as in to take her home about 9pm) my GPS piped up with "Turn Left in 100 yards" because it thought I was going home and "home" appeared on the screen. She said "oh you live up there? Can I see your house?" I thought ok sure. So we head up my road, I point and say "that one there" - she said "So aren't you going to invite me in for coffee?" (yes, she did say exactly that)

So, sure thing. Into the house we go (and NO I wasn't taking coffee to mean anything other than coffee but it wouldn't matter anyway as you will soon see) - she FLIPPED HER LID. I had a chainsaw on the floor in the hallway and a very (very) large chainsaw on the floor in the kitchen. She wen't completely bonkers and started with "OMG what if my daughter was here she could cut her self"
"You shouldn't leave things like that lying around it's dangerous" and so on.

My response was "well your daughter isn't here, is she?! If she was they wouldn't be there"

She said "Take me home, I can't deal with this"

So I did. I made attempts to reason with her on the 20 min drive back to hers, no joy. She just got out and I haven't heard from her since.

I'm not bothered that I haven't heard from her, I just want to know what others make of this.

The only reason they were there is because I was running slightly late for our "date" because a job ran over a bit and instead of messing around unlocking the garage etc I just grabbed them from the trailer, dumped them where I dumped them and got straight in the shower so I could pick her up on time. It's not like I normally keep them there and I wasn't at all expecting us to end up at my place (for any reason)

Was she being unreasonable?

"OMG what if my daughter was here she could cut her self"

Imo, this indicates she had been secretly building castles in the air on your date, imagining herself and daughter firmly ensconced in your pad within the week and the three of you playing happily families.

The sight of the chainsaw brought her crashing back firmly to earth.

MaxPepsi · 06/09/2017 17:26

She's a loon.
You can't bloody cut yourself on an inactive chainsaw anyway.
I have had the misfortune to have done some research on this......DH has a couple and I'm a right clumsy sod! Bruised myself but no cuts!

stardust18 · 06/09/2017 17:29

Sounds like a fruit loop!!
Think you had a lucky escape Grin

teenybean · 06/09/2017 17:30

Ohhhh, op! I love a good chainsaw! Where abouts are you? obviously asking for a friend... 😉

MycatsaPirate · 06/09/2017 17:34

My rather large bush needs lopping - are you in Dorset by any chance?

expatinscotland · 06/09/2017 17:37

Narrow escape!

ButchyRestingFace · 06/09/2017 17:38

I see it didn't take long for this thread to descend into utter filth.

Good-o. Easter Smile

Brakebackcyclebot · 06/09/2017 17:40

She's bonkers!

MycatsaPirate · 06/09/2017 17:40

I think this may be the op with his very (very) large chainsaw!

Was she being unreasonable? (First date thing)
BaconAndBees · 06/09/2017 17:41

Love how everyone's propositioning OP Grin

FallingOrbit · 06/09/2017 17:42

Ha! I'm in Wales I'm afraid! Often up the line with work though. I mill at Kew Gardens once a year. Long story.

I'm glad most people think it wasn't really my fault, I was wondering if I'd committed some major error without even knowing it. Never mind eh!
She seemed kinda cool, but guess not!

Anyway, shameless bit of self promotion here but if anyone needs any bush trimming or overgrowth removal work feel free to PM me Wink

Just don't go berserk if I happen to turn up with my tools!

Lol! pirate that's the exact same model (Stihl MS880) but the bar is't quite that long, I have a 4ft bar on mine because there aren't many trees in the UK that would need a larger than 4ft bar. But yeah, same saw :)

You dodged a bullet there my friend!

teenybean · 06/09/2017 17:46

Shame, you're the other side of the country to me my friend

jayho · 06/09/2017 17:47

Gotta love a man with a big tool who knows how to use it......

(Gets coat)

Katedotness1963 · 06/09/2017 17:49

What an odd reaction. You should have just said they weren't usually in the house and you weren't expecting any visitors.

JuneFromBethesda · 06/09/2017 17:49

He can trim bushes too jayho

user1499333856 · 06/09/2017 17:51

Total nutcase.

Don't look back!

DearMrDilkington · 06/09/2017 17:56

She doesn't sound very well and put herself in a very dangerous position. I hope someone notices her erratic behaviour before she goes into another strangers house who isn't as kind as you op.

You didn't do anything wrong obviously, but I'm quite concerned how she is.

SWBCRTMWSC · 06/09/2017 18:01

I have to say I don't think tools like that belong in the house, I'd be a bit put off. Sure that's what the garage or work van is for?

Boatmistress17 · 06/09/2017 18:02

Your sanity has been saved by a chainsaw!!

Ttbb · 06/09/2017 18:03

You're lucky you got out when you did!

I don't expect you to read the full thread, but if you'd have just read my original post you'd already have the answer to that question. Maybe go a little further than the title in future?

Thanks.

I'd kiss those chainsaws, they just did you a massive favour Grin

Cupoteap · 06/09/2017 18:07

She's bonkers...let's hope she doesn't offer to give you another chance if you get rid of them Wink
