Why can't Teacher training be done in summer holidays

Why do summer holidays need to be extended by 3 days to cover inset days when teachers have had 6 weeks off. And before I get shot down I realise they may have been in school over the holidays etc. But what is the point in going back to school on a Thursday

Good grief, is this still going?
Well summed up, MaisyPops.

I just read on the TES that about a third of French primary schools are returning to a 4 day week system (Wednesdays off) after Macron said they could (Hollande stopped it).

Can you imagine!

I have a friend who teaches in France. He has done an additional qualification (CAPES) which, among other things, reduces his teaching commitment to about 18 hours per week in his grammar school. He is also allowed to leave school during any non teaching periods. His kids are in secondary now but at one point the one in Primary had a Wednesday off and the one in high school had classes on a Saturday morning. Just shows how different education is across Europe!

God I'd love a Wednesday off. I think I'll suggest it. I can can already hear the MN howls of rage if my school got in the papers over it. Grin
