To think that really pyjamas should be washed after every wear?

Not that I do it!
But they are worn next to the skin for 8 hours and I'd wash anything else worn like that..

What do you think?

I find wearing cotton pants in bed prevents rather than causes "issues" - moisture absorption seems to work better for my body than going "commando".

I'm a twice-a-day showerer but it's got bugger all to do with "virtuosity" and if I had to sacrifice one of those showers it would be the much longer and faffier morning one - simply sleep better if I've had a quick blast under a warm/cool shower (depending on the season) before going to bed.

Wait til you hit the menopause. You'll be washing everyone and everything every night. But until then, think it's fine to wear your night garments more than once. Though guess does depend what you're doing in them. Coal mining? Fabbo sex sessions? Yes wash daily. I also wear daily-changed knickers under my pjs.

Can someone clear up "poo crumbs" for me, please? Is it a Mastercheffy thing?

Eolian · 01/09/2017 22:44

With threads like these I just always wonder how people think everyone managed before automatic washing machines. People in past generations may have died of poor sanitation, but I shouldn't think they got their knickers in a twist about not washing their pyjamas every day. We've only become so obsessed with cleanliness and everything smelling Zoflora fresh all the time because it's more doable. Doesn't mean it's necessary (or particularly good for us).

Cailleach666 · 01/09/2017 22:51

Eolian but in the past dirty clothes did transmit disease. Famously the plague, but other things like lice, fleas, scabies. bed bugs, worms.
It's why our grandmothers were so obsessive about getting sheets white and dried in the sun.

With an estimated 40% of us carrying threadworm in the UK ( and the little buggers come out to play in our pjs during the night) maybe it's no bad thing to keep our jammies clean.

I'm not coming round to clear up your poo crumbs. Grin

Poo crumbs are what some people on here believe happens when you fart. The theory is that when you fart it's not just smelly gas that leaves your bum but also tiny crumbs of poo. If you fart in bed when naked then the poo crumbs go on the sheets. If you are wearing knickers then onto the knickers and if just PJs then onto the PJs. You must wash everything that may have poo crumbs on it or you might die of some dreadful disease of the bum hole or something.

Eolian · 01/09/2017 22:54

Cailleach - are you suggesting that those people who don't wash their pyjamas daily are more diseased than those who do? Because I wouldn't be at all surprised if the reverse were true.

Cailleach666 · 01/09/2017 22:57

Eolian no, but you are suggesting that in the past clean clothes did not matter- nor were they important.

And yes when it come to threadworms ( previous visitors in our home) cleanliness- including clean nightwear is important.
Many of us carry threadworms unseen.

PortiaCastis · 01/09/2017 22:57

I hang my arse over the side of the bed to fart so the poo crumbs probably hit the wardrobe in their haste to leave but hey that ole wardrobe don't care.

lmnopqrs · 01/09/2017 23:05

My DD goes into nursery at 12.15 and some mums actually drop their children off still in Pjs. Makes me feel a little sick advertising that you haven't washed your bits and still in last nights pjs Envy

Eolian · 01/09/2017 23:06

No I'm not really, Cailleach, I'm more questioning exactly how clean is clean, and suggesting the levels of cleanliness deemed necessary by many on MN are a bit ridiculous. My grandmother certainly didn't wash sheets or pyjamas every day.

plank · 01/09/2017 23:26

Nope!

I'm winot h abigailgabble i bath/shower ever night. Skin clean. New Jammies every 3/4 nights.

I don't seem to sweat

nameusername · 01/09/2017 23:34

I don't sweat much and depending on the season: summer 2/3 times a week and 1/2 per week during winter. The bottom tends to get changed more frequent since I do lounge in them.

From what I've read on here, we ladies are doing alright. I saw on the UK tv program where the lads just turn their underwear inside out. bleurgh

Sallystyle · 02/09/2017 00:00

Oh my god, I must ming to high heaven as I cannot believe these people are real.

There are 7 of us. I do loads of washing a week. I am very real. I don't wash things needlessly but I easily do 10 loads a week.

Towels, uniform, sports wear, clothes for work, gym gear, every day clothes, underwear, chef whites etc... there is a lot of us and shit needs washing.

I do not wash towels after one use. They get washed when they have been used a few times. Same for clothes except gym clothes and sportswear. I still can't get under 10 loads a week and I don't wash anything unless it really needs washing.

pilotswife · 02/09/2017 00:13

Shower twice a day and could not imagine putting on yesterday's bedclothes. Don't know anyone who does, thought this was as normal as fresh undies daily !

sweatylemon · 02/09/2017 00:15

Have to ask this question.
So if you wear knickers under your PJ's
Is it not a bit tricky for spontaneously DTD
Do you just say to your DP
"Excuse me while I remove layer 1 & then layer 2"
What do you do after? Do you double layer again? Straight away?
Just curious

persianpeach · 02/09/2017 00:15

Seriously! What a waste of time and energy 🙄

LoveBeingAMum555 · 02/09/2017 00:55

Ah but surely peeling off the layers is part of the fun? And no usually the layers don't go back on again afterwards.

PJs last 3/4 nights with me, knickers underneath. PJs to be reworn are tucked under my pillow when not in use. Usually shower twice a day but I am not a wear it once and wash it type of girl (undies and socks being the exception).

BlueberryPuffin · 02/09/2017 01:25

sweatylemon you ask that like you've never had spontaneous sex while clothed. Taking off two layers of clothing isn't difficult.

ethelfleda · 02/09/2017 01:53

I don't wash PJs after one wear. So far, nothing bad has happened as a result Hmm

AlmostAJillSandwich · 02/09/2017 02:09

Towels every use. Underwear, every time i shower (after every time i use the loo, OCD sucks) Bra, t-shirt and jeans/slouchy pants, sometimes every shower, sometimes every other day, and anything in between. Admittedly i don't change clothing from day to night, but i also don't go to bed. I sleep on the sofa, no covers etc so i don't get sweaty, i have really bad issues sleeping, so i usually sleep very little and only for 2 or 3 hours when i do sleep.

IClavdivs · 02/09/2017 02:13

Pigface1 I should say that I wasn't made to sleep in the dog basket. I did have my own bed available.

Sp many questions. Did you sleep with the dog or eject it? Or did it sleep in your bed, or did you take it turns? Or did you both (you and dog) just collapse wherever was most convenient when you were tired?

Or was the dog just a bully, and hogged your whole bed, and you had to find an alternative?

Andallmyhopeisgone · 02/09/2017 02:17

FFS, so much judging! Hmm
Some of us need to wash PJ's after every wear because of night sweats. Be grateful if you don't need to.
Mine are due to medication, not menopause, and not room temperature dependent as I'm usually freezing.
Some people need to, some don't.
The end.

enceladus · 02/09/2017 02:23

Shower once a week, dip the head in under the shower 3 times a week to wash hair, but wouldn't dream of going full in. Wash sheets once a month. Probably change PJ's once a week. Kids have 1 bath a week, any extra stickiness, dirty activities might throw them in the shower as a second wash per week and yes... for those absolutely horrified, they do change their underpants every day. We don't live in Florida, where I can understand the shower a day crap.
