To think that really pyjamas should be washed after every wear?

Not that I do it!
But they are worn next to the skin for 8 hours and I'd wash anything else worn like that..

What do you think?

PS: Cailleach- I am probably guilty of over-filling my washing machine (a whole other thread, I suppose) but then....I don't really care enough....

I do shit loads of washes! I have 3 children under 4. I'm sure you can imagine what they look like after a meal. I would let them wear the same pjs if it wasn't soaked in milk.
I have to change daily, not out of choice but due to the amount of food I have stuck to my clothes by the end of the day, made by my lovely children's sticky fingers.
I bath my kids every other day. I personally should wash more 😂. My hair I leave for at least 5 days and I never use shower gels. Yes it actually is quite bad for your skin (someone mentioned above) and I am not allowed to use it as advised by my dermatologist (suffer from quite bad eczema). So I'm a bit of a minger myself, but I do like a clean house.

Gottagetmoving · 01/09/2017 19:06

As a grim student, I change my pyjamas when they start feeling sweaty once every 2 weeks and my bedding gets changed if I spill something on it so about once in 3 months Might be grim but no-one has complained yet

I like people who are like you so much more than I like people who think it would be Armageddon if they weren't constantly washing clothes and bedding. You probably much happier, more interesting, and have more going on in your head than paranoia.

morningconstitutional2017 · 01/09/2017 19:07

I'm with the mingers on this one. For summer nights I can understand the need to be more fastidious but sorry, I do the washing around every five days or so and that's quite enough for me.

PuppyMonkey · 01/09/2017 19:12

Annie, re your definition of neurotic - I'm not sure how anyone could possibly do "any more" than you do. Confused

Eifla · 01/09/2017 19:13

I change my PJs every 3/4 nights.

I put them on after a shower in the evening, and when I actually get into bed I take my PJ bottoms off and sleep in just pants & PJ top.

MotherPeresA · 01/09/2017 19:21

Our ancestors have been around for about six million years, the modern form of humans evolved about 200,000 years ago and civilization as we know it is about 6,000 years old.

And people are worrying whether to wash their pjs every day or not.

IHeartDodo · 01/09/2017 19:26

Wow I thought I was clean but apparently not!
I have a clean pj top every 3-5 days, and bottoms every 5-8 days (I wear pants).
DP has clean bottoms every couple of days (no pants), and the shirt every day (he gets very hot).
I also wear some clothes a couple of times before washing, like a cardi or dress might get 2-3 wears if I've driven to work rather than cycled, as then I won't have sweated much!
Bedding and towel about 10 days!

Ginburee · 01/09/2017 19:40

Guess we are in the minger brigade, we never use nightwear unless we are guests or have guests (and don't sleep in them).
None of us are wearing PJ's ATM as it has been so hot at night, but when 3 children do it is wash once a week and fresh after bathtime (unless there has been a wet bed obvs).
Yes, we only bath them once a week apart from a sinkwash other nights. We must be really skanky.

Dumbledoresgirl · 01/09/2017 20:02

From the OP

But they are worn next to the skin for 8 hours and I'd wash anything else worn like that..

But if pjs are worn for 8 hours, (usually longer for me as I rarely dress the moment I wake up) then day clothes must be worn twice as long. You surely don't suggest some people are having a complete change of clothes halfway through the day? So that gives you 2 nights of wearing pjs before they have been worn as long as a pair of pants. Then there is the fact that when you are sleeping, you are not sweating as much (menopausal women excepted) or coming into contact with dirt from the environment. So that ups wear time by another couple of nights. Then there is the hard fact that, unless you are sleeping with a new lover, in which case you will be unlikely to be wearing anything at all, you are not on display and few people are likely to see you. So what if the pj top has a bit of stain on it? So, all in all, I don't feel the least bit manky wearing my pjs for a full week.

Yes, but you really wouldn't want to perform oral sex with most of them.

Maireadplastic · 01/09/2017 20:23

I've just seen antibacterial bras on Pinterest. The world has gone mad.

raspberrysuicide · 01/09/2017 20:24

I get really bad night sweats so have to wash mine every day.

Abbylee · 01/09/2017 20:34

Bathing before bed and underwear make sure pj's are still clean in the morning....cotton fabric feels softer the next night...except menopausal Nights! Those require 2 sets/nightBlush

FluffyPineapple · 01/09/2017 20:35

Wash pj's after one wear? In this house that would be 49 pairs of pj's to be washed, dried and ironed a WEEK! Fuck that! I have better things to do....5 teens/young adults plus me and OP keep the washing machine working overtime with normal, everyday, clothes and uniforms. washing pj's every day comes very low on my list of priorities....

Geordie1944 · 01/09/2017 20:50

I shower every night and burnish my bottom and genitals such that you could, should you wish to, eat your dinner off them, let alone have them soil loose-fitting pyjamas. Washing pyjamas after every wearing is in my view ridiculous.

Gottagetmoving · 01/09/2017 21:12

Nah,...well done to those virtuous people who are showering 2 or 3 times a day, changing and washing anything they wear once, obsessed with poo crumbs , never ever had any or seen evidence of any ever in our famiy but hey-ho I am willing to accept they exist on the bottoms of some people.

Kizzyma · 01/09/2017 21:16

If your pj's are close to your skin and you wear no undies surely you must wash them ? Would you wear your knickers twice ?

BlueberryPuffin · 01/09/2017 21:27

I shower before bed and do not use the toilet overnight. My pyjamas are also much looser fitting than underwear.

So for me, this is not a good comparison.

Kizzyma · 01/09/2017 21:44

Yes I agree if your pj's are loose fitting but if they are touching your 'bits' then they shouldn't be worn more than once

cardibach · 01/09/2017 21:46

I think the fact pj bottoms don't have a gusset is proof you are supposed to wear knickers under them.
I don't wash pjs everyday, or anything like it. I'm scary healthy.

PooPooOfferson · 01/09/2017 21:46

Shower before bed, no time to fart-arse around in the morning. PJs last 2 or 3 days for me and my 5yo

Gannicusthemannicus · 01/09/2017 21:52

Oh thank you Gottagetmoving! I thought everyone would say I'm disgusting!

You've all inspired me to change my pjs though...

But with the no pants thing - isn't it much better for your bits to go without undies at night? I used to have recurring issues until I started going commando at night. Blush

PickAChew · 01/09/2017 21:59

Almost always wear knickers in bed and have never had any issues.
