To save for baby's nose job

DH has a very large nose. I like it and I think it makes him look handsome. He really doesn't like it. DD looks like she is going to take after her father in the nose department.
AIBU reasonable to put some money aside each week incase she wants a nose job when she is older? If her nose isn't like her dad's or it doesn't bother her she could use it for other things.
Obviously she would still be gorgeous to me. I'm just concerned she will be self conscious as other people make remarks to DH and he had been teased about it in the past.

@beezie 'something to pick on' I see what you did there Grin

JiminyBillyBob · 29/08/2017 17:29

Great idea. It's just being realistic and forward planning.

People need to get a grip. The OP has repeatedly stated that SHE loves the nose and also that she will never tell DD what the fund is for.

WhooooAmI24601 · 29/08/2017 17:31

Of course I would never ever remark on it

Yes. You would. You already have on here. Which means it's an issue for you. And as much as you might not think you're going to put this on her as she grows up, you probably will because even though she's tiny you're already imagining when x, y and z happen.

You're going to make it into a big deal. She'll have the surgery and then realise that it wasn't the nose making her unhappy but her despotic Mother who spent her childhood fretting about her nose when there are a million more important parts of a child to worry about.

GummyGoddess · 29/08/2017 17:31

As long as she never knows what the money was for and only if she comes to you about a nose job first. I have had surgery for a facial feature that runs in my family, if I had a girl I would definitely save for it on the off chance that she had this feature and also hated it as much as I did.

It was something I always hated even before I got bullied about it, I'm so glad it's gone and looks like everyone else's!

SnickersWasAHorse · 29/08/2017 17:33

I had cosmetic surgery when I was about 8.
I'm glad I had it done. My mother organised it as she had had the same thing done but when she was older and was teased for it.

HappyLollipop · 29/08/2017 17:34

Putting money away each month is fine but don't do it soley for the purpose of a possible nose job, let her choose what she'll like to spend it on and fingers crossed she will use it on better stuff than cosmetic surgery! Your job as her mother is to instil her with confidence and pride in her appearance and hopefully she'll grow up be secure enough to not be bothered by small imperfections.

WallyWantsWine · 29/08/2017 17:42

Gosh, this is odd

Getout21 · 29/08/2017 17:43

The thing is people grow into their noses & big noses do not have to be unattractive, look at a Princess Diana or Angelica Huston.

Then you have the issue of making the nose too small which highlights other facial features e.g Ivanka Trumps nose is now too small for her face.

Plus children will often bully others for certain things which may or may not even exist. You can't change everything about yourself just because you get teased for it.

Disclaimer: if it's similar to Gerard Depardieu then maybe save, although I still think it suits him & has surely helped his career.

Getout21 · 29/08/2017 17:44

Snickers - can I ask what it was to have had it so young?

Sunbittern · 29/08/2017 17:45

My daughter has afro textured hair, a wide nose and big lips. Should I save up for her so she can look acceptable to society?

meltingmarshmallows · 29/08/2017 17:45

This is so horrible. I'd feel mean for even thinking it! By all means save for her future but not so she can endure a horrible surgery to fit better within society's idea of what a woman should look like.

The poor thing.

DressedInBinBags · 29/08/2017 17:47

Sunbittern why have you made this about race?

OP posts:
Sunbittern · 29/08/2017 17:51

I'm not making it about race. Those are just my daughters features.

There is nothing wrong with your daughters nose and you're sick for even considering saving up to change her natural looks.

user1490465531 · 29/08/2017 17:55

Sadly we do live in a world that judges.
I had a squint and was bullied so much for it even strangers thought they could come up and tell me I had a wonky eye and I'm talking adults here who should of known better.
Maybe not quite the same thing as the op but people do and will say nasty comments about things they perceive out of the norm.
That's the shitty human race though.
I can totally understand your reasoning op and I would do the same for my dd if she needed it.
As you have already mentioned it's only there to help her if she has issues with her nose but it's good to know it's there if the need arises.

Nuttynoo · 29/08/2017 17:58

You should have enough saved OP, without having to create a special nose job fund.

GinDoll · 29/08/2017 17:59

YANBU I have already decided to pay if either of my daughters inherit their dad's nose. Only if they don't like it obviously. I don't think there's anything wrong with planning ahead and if one of them does have his nose but seems happy with it I will never mention it bt if she's not, it's there ☺

DressedInBinBags · 29/08/2017 18:00

nutty her first savings is for her car. I don't want her to have to use it.

OP posts:
Getout21 · 29/08/2017 18:01

How boring though that all our little girls are growing up having pressure to look the same, little nose, fake lips etc. I think differences are what makes people beautiful.

Another big nosed beauty: Gisele!

DressedInBinBags · 29/08/2017 18:03

GetOut I adore Gisele and she will be an example I show DD IF she inherits DH's nose and IF she is unhappy with it.

OP posts:
BeccaAnn · 29/08/2017 18:05

Maybe just save for your DD. when she's 21 you could use it as a help towards a first house, or car or if she did want the nose job, she can choose to do it then. My mum's side of the family all have fairly big noses and they find it hilarious when you see pictures of them all together with exactly the same nose.

Getout21 · 29/08/2017 18:06

Me too & she totally wouldn't have been one of the worlds top models without her strong nose.

VestalVirgin · 29/08/2017 18:27

People are shit, and it might harm your daughter's job chances, etc, if she inherits her father's nose, BUT you should see saving money as a way to enable her to keep her nose and still have enough money to do things she wants to do, not to enable her to have surgery.

@Getout: Gisele who?

VestalVirgin · 29/08/2017 18:27

Never noticed a particularly impressive nose on Gisele Bündchen, so you can't mean her? Confused

Getout21 · 29/08/2017 18:40

Gisele does have a large nose but her other features are also big plus lots of hair.

She originally wouldn't get booked for jobs due to her nose.
