AIBU to sack cleaner after Dettol spillage and she didn't tell me???

Stinkycleanhouse · 25/08/2017 20:42

We have just got home after being away and our cleaner came yesterday.
She has spilled what seems to be an entire bottle of Dettol in the kids room, washed it, left it and didn't tell us.
Why it was being used in there I'm not sure, I think more likely she was carrying it and dropped it.
We got back, all windows shut and a boiling hot day today as could smell the Dettol stink as soon as we opened the front door.
I texted and asked and she said yes she has spilled in in our child's room but washed it so no stain and went home.
Surely the fumes are dangerous from Dettol?
We've opened the window and moved her in with us for tonight but how on earth do you get the smell out?
It absolutely stinks.
Aibu to sack her?

She cleaned it up or at least tried to. You are massivly over reacting! It was n accident. As for the statement "she doesnt know if me/dh/dc has asthma or allergies". Well that onus is on you! Have you told her someone has allergies and not to use a product? You obviously arent allegric or asthmatic or you would of told her in interview that there were products she couldnt use. Dont play this card. Air the room out and ask her not to use dettol in the future. If you're that concerned with the effects of cleaning products ask her to use or supply her with and eco alternative. But i must say if your that scared if dettol please dont google the toxicity of your shampoo/deodorant/perfume/soap powder etc etc

harshbuttrue1980 · 26/08/2017 10:21

Ffs, the OP was a bit batty, but has accepted that she was being unreasonable. OP, I have birds, and lots of cleaning products are harmful to them. Because of that, I provide my own cleaning products for my cleaner to use - if you're the sort of person who also gets anxious about her pets, maybe you should do the same. Nothing wrong with that, and saves any future confusion.

Magic79 · 26/08/2017 10:28

How do you know it iS a full bottle of it was your cleaners product?
Sorry if answered. Only on page 5.

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 26/08/2017 10:40

Buy the entire 'method' range (google it), and a load of microfibres cloths.
Ask her to use your products.

I think the dettol issues here are utterly doolaly, but credit to you for acknowledging that...
However, I wouldn't want someone bringing their own products (that I don't know) plus cleaning cloths etc from other jobs. So, get your own. She sounds reliable/trustworthy etc, and v sensible cleaning up spills, don't sack her.

Therealslimshady1 · 26/08/2017 11:31

I have not read if it was spilled on carpet or hard floor, but if it is carpet it is going to be a bugger to get rid of it all, esp. the smell.

Some people just love sticking the boot in and accusing OP (or anyone who dares to have a cleaner) to be a lady of the manor...so childish

HelloSquirrels · 26/08/2017 11:35

Yabu if you're so worried about dangerous cleaning chemicals you should be providing your cleaner with alternatives you're happy with or doing it yourself.

The smell of dettol won't hurt anyone.

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 26/08/2017 11:37

And you said your an adult with children Hmm

CockacidalManiac · 26/08/2017 11:47

My cleaner spilt dihydrogen monoxide everywhere. That kills people every year who inhale even small amounts!
I'm going to sack her.

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 26/08/2017 11:55

Cockacidal
Huge swathes (or is that waves?) of deaths, I hear.

My favourite comment was the woman who said 'She's not a servant or a skivvy'. Erm... she kind of is.

Stinkycleanhouse · 26/08/2017 14:48

She isn't a skivvy at all.
She's someone who works for me, just like at my workplace I work for someone else!

Is this on the DM yet?
The OP is either a journalist/stupid/unhinged/troll.

Read all her posts again. Not once does she take any notice of any other poster. She just keeps posting without responding to anything any other poster has written.

susurration · 26/08/2017 15:34

So what do you actually use to clean your house OP if your cleaner isn't there? Presumably things such as bleach, anti-bac spray etc? Because they're all toxic to cats and children as well when they are neat.

travis45 · 26/08/2017 15:47

Seriously 😂😂

I went in dettol baths, use it all the time. I'm fine!!

Love the smell of Dettol.

allthingsred · 26/08/2017 15:51

Haven't read full post. But yabu.
It was an accident, she cleaned it up. Your over reacting massively.

teal125 · 26/08/2017 16:31

Have you never made a mistake OP? This seems very minor. I feel sorry for the cleaner you sound like very hard work.

milliemolliemou · 26/08/2017 18:34

Come on you lot, OP says she understands she overreacted and won't be sacking the cleaner.

But do agree that if some smells/products are offensive or triggering in some way the OP needs to do a bit more research and provide her cleaner with OP approved products.

I love TCP and witch hazel .... one of my DCs claims it triggers asthma - who knew?

Stinkycleanhouse · 26/08/2017 18:35

Thankyou and I'm sorry for my over reaction

I'm sorry that I gave you a hard time OP. Get yourself someFlowers and relax in the last glory days of summer. Smile

Eleventybillionfucks · 26/08/2017 23:23

Dettol is harmless and a lovely smell. Bet it's killed all those germs that were lingering in your toddlers carpet.
If you vacuum thoroughly it should go in a week or so

Threenme · 27/08/2017 10:35

Why do ppl ask AIBU then when everyone says the are refuse to accept it! Not sure about DM but it is ion mumsnet madness oblimov

maddiemookins16mum · 27/08/2017 21:12

The OP has been bullied, slagged and all sorts, despite agreeing she was being unreasonable many pages ago. Lay off her.

MamaMagellanic · 27/08/2017 21:20

Are you a germ, OP?

Stinkycleanhouse · 27/08/2017 21:41

What? A gem why? Because I said I was wrong?

What a stupid comment.
