Male beauticians and waxing!!

This is based on a friends experience, not mine and it's not so much a AIBU. But we've been discussing it at length and I'm interested in others thoughts.
So would you be ok with a male beautician doing intimate waxing? Would it depend on quite how intimate, so a bikini wax would be ok, but a all off not so much?

I'm not actually sure myself. A part of me thinks it's no different to a male doctor or nurse and I'd be fine with that. Definitely wouldn't have a problem with any other beauty treatments being done by a man, but waxing that invloves no underwear, I'm not sure!!

Sorry painting wasn't trying to make you feel like a freak! Just interested as it's unusual. Most of us are much hairier.
You are naturally what many try to achieve so don't feel like a freak!

Apologies I abandoned the thread on Friday as I was going away. Only just checked my email and found a lot of mumsnet notifications. The thread seems to have moved on a fair bit, which I suppose is to be expected.

My friends and I have disccused it further over the weekend and for us I think it's definitely an embarrassment/dignity thing, not sure what makes it worse being a man doing it though. I've never had a massage (other than from DP) but feel I wouldn't mind a male masseur. And although I've never needed a male doctor/nurse to examine me, I think I'd be ok with that, but if given the choice at booking I'd likely say female.

In regards to hair removal in general, I know porn gets the blame and I think there's obviously a element of what sexual partners find attractive, I'm not convinced it's all down to porn though.
Anceient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, all practiced extensive hair removal of both men and women. And even in caveman days we had methods for hair removal, although I think the reasons weren't so much to do with vanity.

@kali110 no it wasn't obvious hence the ???

PaintingByNumbers I've had three c-sections and the only part of me they shaved was at the top of the triangle (pubic mound). They don't shave anything else and certainly not around the labia so not sure whether your midwife's info came from????

One here but otherwise same as you.

Are they professionals though? Is there an exclusive professional register/body of waxers? Can they be struck off and forbidden to practice? Is there an enforceable ethical code, oversight, and a system of penalties. I think the answer is not really. Sort of but not really.

There's HABIA and there are trade associations like the Guild of Professional Beauty Therapists and so on but it's not actually illegal to operate as a beautician with no license or training whatsoever. That seems significantly different to health care professionals to me. It's a crime to work as a nurse or a doctor when you don't hold the relevant professional qualification and it is not a crime to work as a beautician (even though harder to get insurance).

Yes thats what I meant, she thought I didnt understand where I needed to shave, and that I had removed the hair from the labia but not the top section where the actual incision went. As I didn't realise women had hair anywhere on their labia, I had no clue what she was talking about. Ten years later, it finally clicked! Kinda regretting posting about it now :)

@PaintingByNumbers aha that makes sense! Sorry wasn't trying to be personal! I too am jealous of your trim bush!! It's a bit like having naturally perfect eyebrows on,y less obvious lol!!!

PaintingByNumbers · 27/08/2017 22:54
