To not wash in the morning?

yellowlanterns · 19/08/2017 18:20

I start very early - usually before 7 - and often don't get back till about half nine so I shower then. Then in the morning I just put my uniform on and go. AIBU?

Loyalty there is much wrong with this I don't know where to start: OP I don't mean this is a horrible way, but it's disgusting as a woman you should be keeping yourself clean

  1. what you're saying absolutely is horrible. You are saying she isn't disgustingly dirty. How can that not be horrible?
  2. it's absolute bollocks! She is keeping herself clean with a daily shower!
  3. what difference does her sex make? Is it ok for men to be fictionally disgusting then?
InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 19/08/2017 19:59

meh ODFOD. Since when has it been a requirement to shower TWICE a day. How fucking ridiculous. Stupid waste of time and water, and very drying for the skin.

cardibach · 19/08/2017 19:59

Aaah. I see I've now quoted a deleted post so will probs be deleted. I am on your side OP!

BlackberryLassi · 19/08/2017 20:02

God I love a mumsnet washing thread Grin. I don't shower every single day but most. I don't smell!
Dh sometimes goes days without and I find it a bit gross and disrespectful if it passes a week (when he was in a bad place he just barely washed) but he genuinely smells lush still after a couple of days in a hot kitchen.

I think different people smell in better and worse ways.

Sparklingbrook · 19/08/2017 20:03

I think everyone is free to shower as much or as little as they like aren't they?
I don't know anyone personally who is whiffy and have no idea how often they shower.

It's turning into one of those how often do you wash your sheets threads.

sonjadog · 19/08/2017 20:04

I shower in the evening every second day, except for mid-summer when I get hot at night or if I´ve been doing something particularly sweaty during the day. I also change my towels only once a week. Really, I don´t belong on MN...

MehMehAndMeh · 19/08/2017 20:05

Yeah, OK use environmental and health "concerns" to cover up your own slovenliness all you like. The fact is, you will stink. Dress it up however you like, you will still STINK.
If you are efficient it won't use much more water or energy than a daily bath, even for 2 showers.

Natsku · 19/08/2017 20:05

Nowt wrong with not showering in the morning, I hardly ever do because I have to put the boiler on to heat the water up and that takes ages (if its been a hot night so I'm sweaty then I'll take a quick cold shower). Hell if I'm not going out anywhere I don't even shower at all some days.

LaptopLoverrr · 19/08/2017 20:07

@Phosphorus You're calling the entire nation of Japanese people gross. Hmm

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 19/08/2017 20:08

meh if you stink 12 hours after a shower, there is either something wrong with you, or you have your nose too close to your arse. Grin

LaptopLoverrr · 19/08/2017 20:10

Also, the Japanese think we are disgusting for going to bed with a dirty body...

AccrualIntentions · 19/08/2017 20:10

Yeah, OK use environmental and health "concerns" to cover up your own slovenliness all you like. The fact is, you will stink. Dress it up however you like, you will still STINK.

If you STINK after showering before bed, having clean bedding and not accidentally running a marathon in the night, there's something wrong with you.

MehMehAndMeh · 19/08/2017 20:11

Perhaps your nose has been so close to your own arse you've become desensitized to your own stench InSpace Grin

Sparklingbrook · 19/08/2017 20:12

Stop the madness!

Ollivander84 · 19/08/2017 20:13

It's not "concerns", I'm on a bloody water meter 😂 and I don't need to shower twice a day. My hair gets washed 2-3 times a week and that's sufficient as it's v dry

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 19/08/2017 20:13

Joke if you like meh but calling people disgusting for not showering twice a day is plain wrong.

Calatonia · 19/08/2017 20:14

@LoyaltyAndLobster

OP I don't mean this is a horrible way, but it's disgusting as a woman you should be keeping yourself clean.

WTF does that mean? As a human being you should wash if it is necessary.
My husband stinks so he showers before he comes to bed - every night.
I don't have a physically demanding job that makes me sweat so although I use the bidet every day (or more often if necessary) and wash my pits and face I don't shower every day unless I feel sweaty. My personal preference is for a morning shower but if I've exercised in the evening then I obviously shower before bed.
And I only wash my long hair once a week - unless my scalp has got very sweaty.
It comes down to personal choice and circumstances - there is no right or wrong way to do it, providing that people aren't complaining about the smell.

donajimena · 19/08/2017 20:14

Oh I do love these threads. I haven't showered since yesterday. I don't smell but I am sure if someone put their head up my crotch it might not be the best plan. But as no one is going to do that I'm not too concerned.
I've two teen boys. One stinks if I don't make him sterilise himself every day. The other doesn't smell much at all. Its all individual.
I got into quite a heated exchange with a MNer who just knew by the whiff of someone whether they had showered that day. She didn't seem to get that unless they wore a tshirt with the date of their last wash on you couldn't possibly tell whether the odour was three days old or not.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 19/08/2017 20:17

I shower at night. I don't wash my hair everyday because it doesn't need it.

Twice daily showers are frankly over the top, most of the time for most people.
Body odour is caused by what people eat, whether they smoke, drink coffee and alcohol.
If you eat lots of onions and garlic a shower won't help much.

zippydoodaar · 19/08/2017 20:19

Do the people who shower in the morning also shower in the evening?

I work in a hospital and shower in the evening. Far more concerned on what I have picked up during the course of the day than what I have sweated overnight!!!

candlefloozy · 19/08/2017 20:21

I shower every other day. No ones ever told me I smell and I won't change. If I've got very sweaty then I will shower.

MehMehAndMeh · 19/08/2017 20:22

InSpace not once have I used the word disgusting.
Slovenly, lacking in self respect and slobbish, yes. If you are going to challenge my wording, at least have the decency to challenge words that have actually been used Grin

Flisspaps · 19/08/2017 20:22

I shower once or twice a week. I use a good antiperspirant and wash my face/hands/minge daily.

DH is a daily showerer. He very clearly tells me when if I need to wash sooner, which is rare.

The whole daily showering thing is a very recent phenomenon - until recently most people would bathe once or maybe twice a week.

Dustbunny1900 · 19/08/2017 20:23

I ALWAYS shower or bathe before bed..gets me relaxed, refreshed, and cleans off the sweat and smell of the day..
As for whether I shower before work in the day would depend on the job. If you're a stripper then yes, plz clean yourself. If you're going for a shift at the pig farm, wouldn't bother unless you just like the feeling.

zippydoodaar · 19/08/2017 20:25

Laughing at this thread.

Do all the people who are calling the op a minger wash their hands properly? Most people don't. I think that would concern me more than someone who showers once a day at night!
