To not wash in the morning?

I start very early - usually before 7 - and often don't get back till about half nine so I shower then. Then in the morning I just put my uniform on and go. AIBU?

TBH, unless it's extremely hot, you have been having vigorous sex, or hot flushes, or a heavy period, or are ill; as long as you shower or bath all over thoroughly once a day absolute minimum, that's fine.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 19/08/2017 19:35

It's fine, YANBU. If you feel sweaty and smelly, then wash. If you don't, then crack on.

AfunaMbatata · 19/08/2017 19:35

I shower once a year whether I need it or not.

Brownsauceandsausages · 19/08/2017 19:36

Meant to add, doesn't matter when!

AbsentmindedWoman · 19/08/2017 19:38

I really, really want to organise some kind of Mumsnet research meet up on this.

We have so many threads with people insisting that others do smell, they just can't smell themselves - and nor can your nearest and dearest because they're accustomed to the odour too - if you don't shower every day or don't wash your hair every day or don't shower at the right time of day.

This fascinates me. I have the nose of a bloodhound in some respects (have sniffed out a gas leak a couple of days before anyone else in our whole building noticed it, looking at me as if I was mad when I asked if anyone else could smell it) but I cannot tell when someone has last taken a shower or washed their hair.

The tube can be a pungent place, and sometimes it's pretty revolting, but everyday people I meet and am standing close enough to chat too - no I genuinely can't tell when they have washed last.

I shower once a day, at all different times depending on schedule. Most relaxing for me is a shower before bed, but travelling or exercising mess that up sometimes. Try to avoid showering twice daily as I have dry skin.

AbsentmindedWoman · 19/08/2017 19:41

I personally can't just let my wash my hair and go out about my day with it damp - I look demented when I do this. Very scruffy!

I do try to let it dry naturally as much as possible, but it needs a lot of careful patient detangling in order to sit halfway decently.

SemiNormal · 19/08/2017 19:42

Clutch your pearls Mumsnetters because I only shower every other day...or sometimes every third day. Never had any complaints - Ditto to this. Unleash your judgement MN! Every other day for me UNLESS it's particularly hot weather, I've been gardening or got sweaty/dirty any other way. My skin dries out so much if I shower daily and I'm sure I've heard it's unhealthy (strips skin of natural oils). I know I don't smell because my mum would enjoy telling me tell me if I did! Grin

Ollivander84 · 19/08/2017 19:43

See I don't get it because if I have been to the gym or riding or whatever, I can smell myself and know I need a shower! Same with tops, I can smell if they need soaking before washing
But I genuinely don't smell between now and 6am when I get up for work. I do apply deodorant after my evening shower though
And my hair smells of conditioner, no shampoo doesn't mean its greasy or smelly

Violetcharlotte · 19/08/2017 19:43

Lots of people I know who start work early do this. If you shower the night before and you're not a sweaty person/ it's not v hot weather you'll be absolutely fine.

Iheartnewyork · 19/08/2017 19:43

Shower at night here! I have to leave at 6.15am & get 2 kids up & ready for nursery & a 45 minute commute Hmm & then do a 13 hour shift!

Have a wash, apply spray, clean uniform daily & hope for the best for me Shock.

seven201 · 19/08/2017 19:44

I do the same, unless it's been a hot night.

itusedtobeverydifferent · 19/08/2017 19:44

I shower every morning because I sweat lots! If a person didn't, I don't see why it would be a problem?

dementedma · 19/08/2017 19:44

we don't have a shower. Seems like the only family in the UK who doesn't...i have a few baths a week and wash in between times as do the rest of the family. I don't think we look dirty or smell bad

Christinayangstwistedsista · 19/08/2017 19:45

I do morning and night

sweetbitter · 19/08/2017 19:47

YANBU it's absolutely fine to shower once a day. The idea that it not being in the morning = gross/I couldn't do it is very mumsnet IMO.

Wordsalad · 19/08/2017 19:48

I shave underarms once a week and shower every morning (or after housework on days off), but never use deodorant as sensitive skin. Even roll-ons give a weird unpleasant feeling under the arms.

Very occasionally after a hot sweaty day at the office or after cutting my own hair (straight across at the back nothing fancy) I'll shower in the evening as well.

When I used to go to the hairdresser, I'd wash my hair in the morning shower, then it would get washed again at their insistence at the appointment, then I'd have to wash it again when I got home to get rid of the shavings that got down my neck without fail. One of the reasons I cut my own hair now. Long ago, you could get what was known as a dry trim, not anymore it seems.

PurpleTraitor · 19/08/2017 19:49

We shower in the evening. My DH gets up for work at 4.45am to be at work for 5.30am. Showering wakes the kids. If the kids are awake I'm awake and there is not a reason on the planet for us all to get up at 4.45am. Fuck that.

I don't want to shower in the morning half as much as I want to shower when I get home dirty stick sweaty grubby from work and other people and public transport and ew.

I wonder what planet people from MN are on sometimes. I didn't even live in a house with a shower in it until I was 29.

I don't have a bath. Sad Bathroom is too small. I miss bubble baths.

RedRedBluee · 19/08/2017 19:53

Much cleaner showering at night than morning. Getting in to bed with all the dirt from the day is vile. I never smell in the morning because I don't sweat in my sleep, usually I'm cold.
If I did I'd have two a day. Hair does look better though if you wash it in the morning. But I rarely have time for that.

Ollivander84 · 19/08/2017 19:55

Loyalty - WTF? So women should be clean and men should be...? ConfusedHmm

MehMehAndMeh · 19/08/2017 19:55

YABU. You may not think you smell but you do and your colleagues are just too polite to tell you.
Stop being such a slob and have a bit of self respect for crying out loud.
Shower morning and night.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 19/08/2017 19:55

Even on earlies I manage exercise and a shower even if it means getting up at 3am. I couldn't face work without both.
Bully for you awful. Well done. Hmm

Mulch · 19/08/2017 19:56

In winter I'd just shower at night or morning, but when it's warmer I do both

Ollivander84 · 19/08/2017 19:58

Slob with no self respect now. I mean really? What a waste of water, money, energy, towels and resources showering am and pm if you aren't sweaty overnight
