To not wash in the morning?

I start very early - usually before 7 - and often don't get back till about half nine so I shower then. Then in the morning I just put my uniform on and go. AIBU?

"Not having a shower before work is gross."

No, it isn't. It really, really isn't. It might be gross for you, but it isn't for everyone. I have a new co-worker at work, and she told me that she always showers at night and never in the morning. I would never have known because she doesn't smell at all.

Some mumsnetters are really overly fastidious.

sunglassally · 19/08/2017 19:00

Lonicera.

Judgmental. Emphasis on the mental sometimes lol.

greendale17 · 19/08/2017 19:01

YANBU- I would rather shower in the evening than the morning

StarHeartDiamond · 19/08/2017 19:02

I'd rather shower in the morning than evening if I could only choose one. Would rather give the daytime people my fresher self!

sunglassally · 19/08/2017 19:02

Lonicera

Just to clarify, I was referring to your description of mns being "fastidious" For the record!

Bath at night, wash hair in the morning.

ClashCityRocker · 19/08/2017 19:06

Bath or shower on a night.

Quick wash of face, deodorant and I'm set for the day.

My hair takes too long to dry for morning showers and I get up early enough as it is.

Squeegle · 19/08/2017 19:08

Of course it's fine. Just think, there are places in the globe where there isn't hot water on tap. It's ok really to manage for 12 hours without washing yourself down

FinallyDecidedOnUserName · 19/08/2017 19:11

Ewww

Ropsleybunny · 19/08/2017 19:12

At one time people only bathed once a year, whether they needed to or not.

sonlypuppyfat · 19/08/2017 19:13

I've not got a shower!!!! And there's no way I'd run a bath before work

RudeDog · 19/08/2017 19:17

I only shower at night (unless in a hot county) - if I shower in the morning I have to shower again in the evening as I feel dirty

Also showering at night helps with my hay fever

DH showers in the morning - he smells in the mornings Sad

Fluffyears · 19/08/2017 19:17

Have to shower and wash hair every day. Hair is long too. I was leaving at 5am for flights to London for meetings and I still took the time to shower. You might not have B.O but some people have an 'unwashed' smell and i can smell that odour quite strongly on the train each day.

SaucyJack · 19/08/2017 19:18

Bath at night here.

Agree with whoever said one good soaping per 24 hour period is sufficient.

Lillygreen · 19/08/2017 19:20

Absolutely fine! I'm suprised at the people who are saying it is disgusting (they must be really sweaty, smelly people! Grin )

Showering at night is far more hygenic than in the morning. I.e. at night you shower off the dirt/bacteria from the day.

mistermagpie · 19/08/2017 19:22

It's hardly 'ewww' if someone showers every day, regardless of what time of day they shower. Some people need to grow up.

I vary, I've got a two year old and a 4 month old and often don't have time to shower in the mornings. So I shower at night. On a day that DH is home or DS1 is at nursery then I can shower in the morning. I figure once in a 24hr period is enough. FWIW I sweat more during the day than at night, but I'm quite active.

Thumbcat · 19/08/2017 19:22

Of course it's not gross, unless you happen to be a particularly sweaty and smelly person. Like a previous poster I usually shower every other day and I'd lay money on the fact that not one of the fastidious washers up thread would be able to tell. DH would have no qualms telling me if I smelt.

Badcat666 · 19/08/2017 19:22

You are not being unreasonable at all!

Weirdly I was thinking about this yesterday (no ideas why, brain is like that sometimes)

I shower before I go to bed because I don't want to go to bed all grubby.

I get more yucky and grimy travelling to work on public transport, walking along congested roads and sitting in a hot office for 8 hours than I do lying in bed asleep (unless you count face drool but I wash my face in the morning)

Always been as night shower gal, always will be. Love my shower before bed, it relaxes me no end and I feel all squeaky clean.

Only ever shower in the morning on my days off if I didn't shower the night before.

Wauden · 19/08/2017 19:23

I can see advantages and disadvantages to both (showering in morning or evening). I shower in the evening because I like to go to bed nice and clean and it keeps the bed cleaner and I am all relaxed. But I also like the feeling of a clean start however and now I am wondering whether it would be best to shower in the mornings!

ClumsyFool · 19/08/2017 19:24

I shower every morning regardless of whether I'm up at 4am/5am for work, but that's because I can sweat quite a bit in the night whatever the temperature is and I just feel gross if I don't. It's only a quick shower to clean everywhere, hair washing is usually an evening shower job as it's long and thick and there's tons of it!

I'm sure however that I must have colleagues who shower at night and maybe just have a quick wash in the morning and I've never noticed any unpleasant smells from their direction (other than some overbearing perfume in one person's case). It's not gross either way it's just different strokes and all that. I do often commit the cardinal sin of showering twice a day though so I should probably just stay quiet Grin

Ginkypig · 19/08/2017 19:26

I think it depends on what you mean.

If your going out early morning doing a shift on your own like cleaning (like I did although I washed the pits) then coming home and showering before going to your other job then I don't see the problem but if your going to a job with other people at the first job then it might not be fair.

Runningyogabooze · 19/08/2017 19:27

Depends on how much you sweat at night, how often you wash your sheets (once a week is right I think), and whether you've had sex.

But if you've had a non-sweaty night of peaceful sleep in clean sheets, I think it's fine.

Different for men though - DH sweats so much!

AnnMeredithPerkins · 19/08/2017 19:30

i'm an evening showerer too.... no time in the mornings

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 19/08/2017 19:31

I'm perimenopausal so really do need to shower in the morning. The joys of night sweats. Grin

Elendon · 19/08/2017 19:34

pop into the shower with a hand held and wash pits and nethers. It's as simple as that and it wakes you up.

Or just go out with damp hair. It dries quickly and you can always pretend you've been up since 5am and have done a mile of jogging and then gym. People will then be envious.
