To not wash in the morning?

I start very early - usually before 7 - and often don't get back till about half nine so I shower then. Then in the morning I just put my uniform on and go. AIBU?

I have a friend who only showers every second day. Claims she doesn't smell. Never had any complaints, etc.

She's wrong. I know when it's day two if I see her: Smells a bit like milk on the turn.

Mysterian · 22/08/2017 23:11

Would you suggest a buff with a chamois too circ?

Circumlocutor · 22/08/2017 23:13

Yes, that would be advisable. And on your lunch break see if you can find a local car wash to give you a buff and polish. Just strip off and ask for the deluxe valet service.

Mysterian · 22/08/2017 23:17

Ooooh! "Deluxe"! That's an "e" better than a regular delux. The "e" stands for quality.

itsbetterthanabox · 23/08/2017 00:12

You know toilets are meant to smell a bit? Usually poo is a worse smell than if someone is a little sweaty.
I shower daily but some people are fine every other day and don't smell bad. We are all different.

This.

Same as a Sunday morning in the supermarket I can smell the people who have just rolled out of bed and left the house.

I know it won't kill us and in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter but just because people haven't complained that a person smells doesn't mean that they don't smell.

Good reasons to consider showering more often:

  • Your odour is offending other people
  • Your health is suffering
  • You feel dirty
  • You feel like showering more often

Bad reasons to consider showering more often:

  • Someone on Mumsnet thinks you're gross
brasty · 23/08/2017 13:16

I actually find that people who smell a bit, do so because they don't change their clothes enough.
Also I think people on MN must have incredibly sensitive noses and struggle in the world.

BackieJerkhart · 23/08/2017 13:43

I must be a real honker. Blush I had a shower last night, then one this morning to freshen up after bed. (I sweat in bed even with windows open) it's only lunch time and I need another shower. (I won't get one til after dinner time) I was working (cleaning houses) this morning so I worked up a sweat.

demirose87 · 23/08/2017 13:55

A bath or shower every morning is essential for me and always has been. I find it wakes me up and I have to wash my hair every morning as it feels greasy if I don't. I always feel a bit sticky and minging before a morning shower. I also have a bath before bed too because it makes me relax more and I like getting into bed clean. I had a friend who showered at night and just washed her hands and face in the morning. She smelt really bad of sweaty armpits and didn't realise till I told her.

BusterGonad · 23/08/2017 17:12

Dem lol. Really? She must have been blessed with excessive sweating!

Circumlocutor · 23/08/2017 17:21

Did she wear unwashed clothes days in a row? Wear a lot of cheap polyester without anti perspirant? Have some kind of metabolic condition?

Because those would be the only reasons she'd smell so bad.

demirose87 · 23/08/2017 17:24

No she wore clean clothes every day. More like she just needed to wash her armpits. Some people just need to wash more than others as they sweat more.

brasty · 23/08/2017 17:27

Yes some people sweat more than others I agree. But not everyone needs to wash every day.

demirose87 · 23/08/2017 17:32

I think if not bathing or showering at least once a day, then at least wash your face, underarms and bits.

onlyconnect · 23/08/2017 17:38

Bustergonad yes, my fanjo would start to smell well within 24 hours if not washed. I shower in the morning but always give it a wash before going out in the evening.
If I was a night time showerer then my fanjo would get a morning wash.

MrsNoMates · 23/08/2017 17:41

Who are all these sweaty people at night then? Nothing wrong with showering at night then in the morning just washing hands/face etc.

I used to shower in the morning but found it saves so much time doing it at night and plus I don't have to suffer freezing to death on a cold November morning when getting out the shower.

BackieJerkhart · 23/08/2017 18:55

Who are all these sweaty people at night then?

What, you want our names? Grin

brasty · 23/08/2017 19:02

I used to work in an environmental organisation with lots of people who would not wear anti perspirant. Very hot days were whiffy.

Oblomov17 · 23/08/2017 19:11

What is the MN obsession with morning showering? Of course it's not unhygienic.
I do most mornings. But sometimes/occasionally I don't. Hardly a crime.

LoyaltyAndLobster · 23/08/2017 19:17

Oblomov12 It is not an obsession, people who do not wash/shower in the morning are disgusting, there isn't any excuse for someone to not wash/shower in the morning.

brasty · 23/08/2017 19:17

:)MN does amuse me

Oblomov17 · 23/08/2017 19:21

Nonsense Loyalty. Is that a medical, informed basis?

LoyaltyAndLobster · 23/08/2017 19:41

Oblomov17 It may be nonense to you but I am not the only one in this thread that shares the same view, and also as women we NEED to keep ourselves clean.

I'm sorry if I have offended you in any way but it is the truth.

CosmicPineapple · 23/08/2017 19:48

as women we NEED to keep ourselves clean.

What does the sex of a person have to do with it?
