Am I being totally PFB or is this impressive for a 4 yr old?

Dd finds my little electric, hand held fan earlier and is sad it's not working. I'm busy and say I'll sort it later. About 15mins later she strolls in with it working having found the batteries, dismantled the fan an put new ones in the right way. I was impressed but she's my only child and everything she does is amazing to me!! (She's only just 4 BTW)

Nowadays most kids have battery operated toys and know how to do this

It's normal for four tbh.

BlackberryLassi · 19/08/2017 07:59

asking I don't see what's wrong with asking if something I thought was pretty clever was or not.

It doesn't mean I'm going to be a pushy parent.

I'm impressed she opened the casing Smile. All my kids' toys seem to need a screwdriver to open and close the casing first.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 19/08/2017 08:14

She sounds like a bright girl - i would have been impressed too.

People are being awful on this thread. It's one of the more harmless, self aware, and honest bits of mild pride in a child, as they go!

ethelfleda · 19/08/2017 08:17

What does PFB mean?

BlackberryLassi · 19/08/2017 08:23

random there wouldn't of been a chance with one of her toys. Changing them usually challenges me!!

Thanks seek Smile

PFB means perfect first born. It's said in a jokey way.

PFB means perfect first born. It's said in a jokey way.

Except by the posters who use it in a snidey, sneery way!

ButtHoleinOne · 19/08/2017 09:59

pfb could do that from 2 years. Dc2 I'm not sure when, but would have been after his sister. Dc3 is 3 and can do it. I had no idea we were supposed to hide batteries. Clearly my children are more intelligent than I am. My dad used to get my to lick 9 volts though. Hmm

I think it's weird to start a thread asking if your kid is cleverer than other kids. There's no answer other than genius that won't look shitty.

ButtHoleinOne · 19/08/2017 10:00

Also consider that you have shown her how it works and that children don't know what's "kids stuff" or "adults stuff". There is no difference between putting in batteries and putting the star in the star spot in a shape sorted toy.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 19/08/2017 10:02

Well, OP, your daughter has made an awful lot of grown women on Mumsnet very jealous, judging by the replies, so I'd say she's doing great for her age. Smile

Babbitywabbit · 19/08/2017 10:03

So you've told your 4 year old how to perform a straightforward task and she can do it?

Sounds like a typical 4 year old tbh

ButtHoleinOne · 19/08/2017 10:08

I don't get why people think the OP is bragging, when its npt a difficult thing to do?! confused

It's not a difficult thing to do but the op was bragging because she thought it was.

How do posters recognise name changes? There are so many posters surely some sound similar? Confused

Bumpandkind · 19/08/2017 12:39

This thread is truly bizarre. Dead moles and overactive cunt calling!

My 4 yr old would probably be able to do this but id be impressed with him none the less.

ButtHoleinOne · 19/08/2017 12:55

There is a thread about mole smell so I'm assuming pp has misposted

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 19/08/2017 14:25

I think it's smart of the kid to remember what she was told and trot off and sort it for herself - I bet she felt really pleased with herself when, basically, she'd taken something that wasn't working and made it work, not mithering at her mum but sorting it out. Of course putting batteries in isn't the most difficult thing ever, but she was being independent and resourceful and I have no idea why so many people feel the need to come and say 'that's not at all impressive' - even if it isn't, what does it hurt you if OP feels it is?

There's some really odd levels and varieties of nastiness on this thread!

lynmilne65 · 19/08/2017 15:11

My friends gds dismantled their hoover then reassembled it at age 4 !

MimsyFluff · 19/08/2017 16:16

My nearly 4 year old did this the other day with that blasted bubble machine now if she can just understand you can't run around with it and spill the slimy liquid everywhere that would be great. I think your DD did a good job showed she will just get on with what needs doing.

BlackberryLassi · 19/08/2017 16:38

Wow lyn that's properly impressive!!

I think all this thread has done is illustrate that some people use AIBU just to be shitty because they can.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 19/08/2017 16:53

I've only read some of the thread but this is MN OP, one MNetter proclaimed her child was reading books at 9 months old recently so I wouldn't take some of these responses personally. We are of course in the presence of true geniuses and probably the pushy parents from Child Genuis.

I'd be impressed she had the presence of mind to go and sort it out herself.

IHopeYourCakeIsShit · 19/08/2017 16:59

Ah yes I remember that one.

Polly85 · 19/08/2017 17:04

@NK493efc93X1277dd3d6d4 - bore off.

I'm impressed, good initiative and problem solving skills! Smile

^ I second this... why can't everyone just be nice?
