Am I being totally PFB or is this impressive for a 4 yr old?

Dd finds my little electric, hand held fan earlier and is sad it's not working. I'm busy and say I'll sort it later. About 15mins later she strolls in with it working having found the batteries, dismantled the fan an put new ones in the right way. I was impressed but she's my only child and everything she does is amazing to me!! (She's only just 4 BTW)

My son is almost 4 and can change batteries under supervision. I don't think he is a genius mind you. Kids just copy what adults do... That is just normal behaviour. Sorry, I wouldn't call Mensa just yet :-p

BlackberryLassi · 16/08/2017 21:12

I can tolerate being told she's average hence the 'pfb' in the title. It's fine, she's normal, not a genius!

What else have you got under the sink that she might get at?

Ropsleybunny · 16/08/2017 21:13

Brilliant OP, I'd be well proud of her. Ignore some of the miserable sods on here, I don't know what's up with some on here today.

BlackberryLassi · 16/08/2017 21:13

She's 4 not a toddler. She's not going to start Beckie bleach.

Not v nice response there, you sound goady OP... and yes I'd be worried about access to batteries more than posting to internet strangers - I've know two children to choke on them so not a massive celebration from me sorry :(

BlackberryLassi · 16/08/2017 21:14

Whoops necking bleach

OP turns abusive when confronted with the PFB isn't that special i.e. Report back line.

Great example you are to your PFB. Let's hope she has better manners.

ligersaremyfavouriteanimal · 16/08/2017 21:14

Doesn't seem impressive to me OP, sorry. Surely most 4 year olds can take something simple apart and back together again??

Agree with pp about batteries though

Antigonads · 16/08/2017 21:15

Perhaps a dictionary of swear words.

kali110 · 16/08/2017 21:16

I'm more concerned that you'd resort to calling someone a cunt because they were sarcastic. Bit of an overreaction.
This, Hmm

She's 4 not a toddler. She's not going to start Beckie bleach.
She's a young child, it can happen, just because she's not a toddler doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

notevernotnevernotnohow · 16/08/2017 21:16

The dangers of batteries? Like what exactly? They aren't the button kind, and a 4 year old able to use batteries properly is hardly going to swallow an AA battery!

CottonSock · 16/08/2017 21:16

I haveva four year old and batteries are kept out of reach and kitchen cupboard under sink locked.. because they copy and sometimes get it right, but on other occasions get things wrong and danger themselves. Not impressed sorry op

BlackberryLassi · 16/08/2017 21:17

Thanksropsley! So not a Mensa girl yet but I'm still impressed.

If you do a bit of googling about children and household chemicals you will find that children under the age of 5 are most at risk of poisoning from handling or ingesting dangerous substances. It's basic common sense to keep these away from young children. You didn't even know that she knew there were batteries under the sink - you need to wise up.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 16/08/2017 21:17

It depends. If she's worked it all out by herself then she's a genius.

But you've told her how batteries work, she's also, in her 4 years, probably seen people changing batteries, so no it isn't exceptional at all. She's just repeating something she's seen others doing.

And I hope she hasn't learned manners from you.Hmm

CottonSock · 16/08/2017 21:17

She might not swallow them, but batteries can leak acid and should be handled carefully

kali110 · 16/08/2017 21:19

Yes, not even ingesting them, but inhaling or getting them on her hands.

AnneGrommit · 16/08/2017 21:19

Did you really call someone a cunt?

viques · 16/08/2017 21:21

What else do you keep under your sink? If your genius is helping herself to stuff you need to check all the cupboards she can access.

AnneGrommit · 16/08/2017 21:21

Anyway, yes, your daughter is obviously destined for greatness as an internationally renowned battery changer.

sororitynoise · 16/08/2017 21:21

@anne yes she did

'You're a cunt' was in response to the first comment on her post. I reported it.

BlackberryLassi · 16/08/2017 21:21

anne yep Blush I should have just ignored the GF but I typed before I thought Blush

Gosh. Deletions are quick at the moment.

AlpacaLypse · 16/08/2017 21:22

OP don't post in AIBU unless you want most of the twats to respond. Far more of them about since Penis bloody Beaker Sad. Especially in the evenings.

Personally I think your 4 year old is lovely and amazing Smile
