Am I being totally PFB or is this impressive for a 4 yr old?

Dd finds my little electric, hand held fan earlier and is sad it's not working. I'm busy and say I'll sort it later. About 15mins later she strolls in with it working having found the batteries, dismantled the fan an put new ones in the right way. I was impressed but she's my only child and everything she does is amazing to me!! (She's only just 4 BTW)

Apparently even 2 year olds do itHmm

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/08/2017 09:01

2? They're a bit behind if they're only changing batteries at 2, it's completely normal for foetuses to change batteries!

lozzylizzy · 17/08/2017 09:02

She's 4 not a toddler. She's not going to start Beckie bleach.
She's a young child, it can happen, just because she's not a toddler doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

My sensible 3 1/2 year old bit a bar of soap the other day. My 5 year old put a carrier bag over his head and when my eldest was 6 he was poking the plug sockets with a cocktail stick (I know not much chance of electrocution but he knew about electricity)

Even when kids are sensible they sometimes do forget - they are children!

AnotherLegoBrick · 17/08/2017 09:07

DS2 was doing things like this from a very early age. I could have put the batteries in the safest of places and he would have found a way to get to them. He has a very practical brain, but struggles in many other areas.

JustMumNowNotMe · 17/08/2017 09:10

My 2 year old is far from a genius, she just studies and copies. Same way she knows how to open locked doors, undo cupboard locks, switch thr tv over to now tv/xbox with the remotes;unlock phones with patterns, pins etc. She just watched us do it. I don't get why people think the OP is bragging, when its npt a difficult thing to do?! Confused

Orangebird69 · 17/08/2017 09:11

Ds (at the time about 20mo) recognised the front door key, put it in the lock, turned it in the right direction, unlocked the front door and let himself out. Funnily enough, I didn't find that impressive. Keys are now hidden.

pigeondujour · 17/08/2017 09:35

Why would you be impressed pig? Its just as simple as watching a grown up and copying, its hardly difficult?!

She wasn't just 'watching a grown up and copying' though was she. She had a problem that her mum didn't have time to help with at that moment so she remembered something she had been taught a while ago and took the initiative to solve that problem.

Also, my threshold for being impressed by stuff isn't massively high for four year olds, I wouldn't have thought I was unusual in that.

JustMumNowNotMe · 17/08/2017 09:40

Well I'm not sat next to dd either, the point is she has watched me and copied. Is that really so impressive?!

DonkeyOil · 17/08/2017 09:44

She had a problem that her mum didn't have time to help with at that moment so she remembered something she had been taught a while ago and took the initiative to solve that problem.

Exactly.........instead of pestering and whining like most 4 year olds would. Now that's impressive, in my book!

BlackberryLassi · 17/08/2017 09:46

Well I'm definetly being PFB then, I am being unreasonable Grin.

The main thing is I was impressed with my little girl. It showed initiative and good problem solving.

OP posts:
pigeondujour · 17/08/2017 09:50

Well, I suppose I'd see it as if you won't be impressed by anything that she hasn't at some point learned off somebody else, she'll be waiting a long time to impress her mum.

Mustang27 · 17/08/2017 09:50

I'm impressed my 30yr old hubby wouldn't do that Grin

GinIsIn · 17/08/2017 09:54

Perhaps she can solve the rest of your problems as well....? Hmm

VladmirsPoutine · 17/08/2017 10:05

This thread is just batshit.

AnneGrommit · 17/08/2017 10:29

I think it's amazing. And seven pages of it!

DearMrDilkington · 17/08/2017 10:50

Brilliant thread opGrin

VinIsGroot · 19/08/2017 04:12

Now...believe it or not !!!!
Mt FIL is a very very very keen gardener! We were about to go on holiday ... Came home and found a dead mole on my windowsill by the front door! (He though my equally as nerdy daughter would love to see it).... It didn't smell...but if we'd left it a day or two more ...it might have !!!!!!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/08/2017 07:23

asking I really am not like that. I just think she's amazing but every parent feels like that about their child don't they?

She can be really bright, below average academically or just somewhere in the middle and I'll be happy and support her learning just the same.

diamond49 · 19/08/2017 07:37

I don't think changing batteries at 4 is that impressive!

Huffletuff · 19/08/2017 07:37

It's not impressive in the slightest.
