We've been on the waiting list for a beach for for ages.

A new set are being built and we've been successful in securing a great one.

We were going to buy but I've had to put a hold on it for the following reasons-

I was trying to -using the square footage/floor plans - plan where storage stuff and table/mini kitchen would go etc and asked DH for his help

He's basically dismissed everything and told me that his kayack is going in and that everything else will have to fit around it.

His kayak will only fit it its diagonal and he's refusing to have is hing from the ceiling (which means everyone will have to bend anyway to avoid concussion - there's no permission granted for lockable storage under either.

I asked him is he'd also maintain /paint do essential repairs as he does nothing at home-answer- no im happy just to have somewhere for a kettle and a kayack. No consideration for anyone else or anyone else's enjoyment of it.

I've told him I'm withdrawing from it then- which he's having a huge strop.

I already do every shred of maintencance/work/upkeep on our home he helps with nothing- he has a home office which looks like he's Mr Trebus's protégée ND can just see myself wishing I'd not bothered.

Am I being unreasonable to withdraw (and think £18k for a kayack storage facility because DH is too fucking lazy to take his out of the shed and onto the car) and look elsewhere for myself and he kids?

Highly, the OP has already explained that she can't drag the bloody thing out by herself.

thenightsky · 16/08/2017 22:41

if you're using it alone without him, it's easy enough to drag it out of the hut and leave it down the side

The OP has clearly said she cannot move the bloody thing at all due to physical issues. Not even with the help of her DC.

Oh, look, the OP's husband found the thread...

StaplesCorner · 16/08/2017 22:52

Show him this thread and watch how quick he divorces you - ooo excellent! Will that work on other wank badgers too?!

GlitterNails · 16/08/2017 22:53

He's a tosser. My grandparents have a beach hut and it was a huge part of my childhood, and absolutely treasured. We spent every summer there and I'd love one now.

Take it, and then leave the bastard. He's actually made me angry. There are so many selfish tossers about.

Oh and my input on the decor - make sure you put a curtain in or similar you can change behind. Some you need to close the door for privacy - and it goes pitch black which isn't always fun to change in!

ChasedByBees · 16/08/2017 22:56

I know it's moved on - I have RTFT but the cheek of this:

reminding me every 10 minutes how it's been my dream for years

So it's your dream and he's conveniently ignoring how he's planning to entirely ruin it for the entire family. Another horrible husband on here!

ijustwannadance · 16/08/2017 22:57

What are you even doing in his mancave space....

Probably cleaning it, like a good little wife.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 16/08/2017 23:12

It's like they get their blinkers on. I've been researching for months what car I want next year when I trade mine in. Presented the info to dh in a grown up fashion and he dismissed me instantly with a 'you're not having one of those'.

Ex-fucking-cuse me?

LesleyKnopeIsdope · 16/08/2017 23:41

I bet he doesn't complain that you bought all the furnishings and decided what colour scheme your home would have and which accessories looked right and which colour bedlinen you should have and what type of curtain fabric

Damn right highly-I've chosen, bought and despite my physical limitations put together everything in my home- because if it were left to him they'd shit would still be boxes and he'd be eating off paper plates (apart from his carbon fibre bike scraping against the wall which he bought for £1000 and has used a dozen times)

I think it's worth mentioning when our guests comment on my beautiful home (which incidentally was done on a beer budget) he tries to take full credit for all of my hard work.

You. Have. No. Clue.

He can have all the hobbies he likes-not to mine or my DC's detriment from now on.

Glad you've found your fire. You go girl. Smile

Thehappygardener · 17/08/2017 00:32

Would absolutely love a beach hut, and I certainly wouldn't be using it to store a kayak! 😎

timeisnotaline · 17/08/2017 00:57

I'm glad you bought the hut! I don't like the sound of your dh at all. How do you live with him? Why?!

Damsel · 17/08/2017 07:09

My ex DH was controlling, entirely selfish & thought the world revolved around his needs. Which is why I left him. But, compared to your DH, some might say he was husband of the year material!! I wish you all the best & really hope you enjoy your beach hut.

LEMtheoriginal · 17/08/2017 08:12

I think the kayak is the least of your worries

Leapfrog44 · 17/08/2017 11:05

I'm with you on this one! Your beach hut will be a beautiful little oasis of calm where you can sit in lovely surroundings and watch the sea with a glass of wine, have a siesta or just chill out with a book.

If I had 18k I'd find that a pretty good way to spend it. Stick to your guns and don't back down on this.

18k for kayak storage is insanity. Tell him to cough up for a second hut if he thinks it's a reasonable price for a storage shed.

headinhands · 17/08/2017 11:08

Yeah that's what I though op. Bloody expensive shed. What a waste of a beach hut!! I agree. I wouldn't be helping foot the bill.

Threenme · 17/08/2017 11:13

Op I've not read full thread so apologies if I've missed something or it's been said, but for £18000 you could buy a lovely static caravan. You can build storage under these for the kayak and spend more time at the beach.

Donttouchthethings · 17/08/2017 11:22

Oh I'd love a beach hut so am really glad you're going ahead with it.

Maybe if you divorced him, you could get it as part of the settlement?

pinkyredrose · 18/08/2017 12:25

How's it going OP, is he seeing sense yet?

BarbaraofSevillle · 18/08/2017 13:50

Well another thread sent me off to the mug section of the John Lewis website and I spotted these, which you must buy for the beach hut.

As usual I'm too bloody late to the party. Please come back and tell us how it all pans out, I would genuinely love to know.

abigailgabble · 18/08/2017 23:23

he sounds like a true tosser

BoomalakkaWee · 25/08/2017 08:42

Hi OP - hope everything is moving forward happily with your plans for your beach hut.

I saw this story on the BBC this morning and thought it'd appeal to you:
