New partner's holiday

lunaysol3828 · 12/08/2017 14:22

So... new partner. Roughly a month together now. He had this holiday booked with friends before he met me so he obviously went.

When at home we chat a lot, texts, facebook, whatever, and we obviously see eachother a lot.

If you were me, how often would you expect to be contacted while he's on holiday?Smile

5 texts, 3 pictures and a call in 8 hours,from a country that's expensive to call/text/data from Hmm

Darkstar4855 · 12/08/2017 22:52

Honestly I would say it depends on your relationship and how much you're in contact normally.

I went away on a pre-booked holiday about a month after I started going out with my partner and we messaged every day, however it was a very intense relationship right from the start and that was just what felt right for us. That was over a year ago and we are still very happy and now live together. With previous boyfriends/partners I probably wouldn't have messaged much if at all.

Maybe the best idea is to send a "hope you landed safely and have a fab time" text and then be guided by how he responds. Don't take it to heart if he doesn't contact you much though - as others have said it is early days and it's so easy on holiday to get distracted by the lack of routine and lose track of time.

He has been on the phone all day to her according to the update. 3pictures 5 texts and a call since she started this thread.

Darkstar4855 · 12/08/2017 22:55

Yes, sorry, it's my first time posting on here (normally I just read) and I somehow managed to miss that there was more than one page to the thread. Apologies.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 12/08/2017 22:59

You have taken TheSnorkMaidens comments the wrong way. She was asking what you're going to do to pass the time while he's away because you sound 'smitten'. Smitten is a new very thing - happy, in love, besotted. Good.

As English is your 4th language, you'd do well not to take offence so easily.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 12/08/2017 23:02

Bloody iPhone. 'smitten' is lovely, basically means totally taken by and in this case happy & in love.

How on earth is saying 'you sound smitten' rude? I was being friendly. I didn't say anything about crying, which you refer to in your reply to me.

I came back to this thread to see how you were getting on, because it was a lovely fun thread. And I find you are bizarrely picking on me, like a teenager in a playground.

Get a grip.

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 12/08/2017 23:05

I'm actually upset. I shouldn't be upset at a random on the internet but you are rude and unpleasant.

PandorasXbox · 12/08/2017 23:07

Yes I don't think the OP knows what smitten means.

missmollyhadadolly · 12/08/2017 23:18

TheSnorkMaidenReturn

Don't be upset, OP was rude. It all sounds like bullshit too. Flowers

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 12/08/2017 23:46

Thanks. I'd crossed posted with Annie, but I think her and Pandora are probably right, she doesn't know what smitten means and is now too ashamed about her rudeness to come back.

Thanks MissMHaD, it could all be crap, including the handy excuse about English being a fourth language, to justify behaviour.

Madness.

Grilledaubergines · 13/08/2017 01:16

Again OP, did you text him at all?

I appreciate he's now been in contact frequently, which is a relief for you but I am interested to know if you ever called or sent him a text. Because I can't grasp why it's another persons responsibility to make contact. If I want to get in touch with someone I call or text. I wouldn't just wait with hope.

midnightmisssuki · 13/08/2017 04:10

Yikes OP you sounds very very young - your replies to some posters make you sound quite childish. Just be very careful how you come across with your new partner - some guys don't like needy women and it might be too much for him after a while - don't take offence to that, just thought I'd put it out there.

RE how often he should text - my husband would text once/twice a day and FT me to speak to the kids. If he was on holiday with mates - I would expect one message to say he arrived safely, another one on his way back. I would now and then send pics of kids just so he knows what naughty tricks they get up to when he's away. Wink

DownstairsMixUp · 13/08/2017 04:51

Tbh I agree with these replies but things are different now. My friend got with someone in march this year, within a a fortnight they were in love and when we went to Dublin for only three days they were on the phone every day! I love her to bits but some people get very full on very quickly now Shock

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 13/08/2017 04:59

Depending on where he is, it's possible he's staying behind some big fuck off hill and has no reception. My aunt had a holiday flat like that, I only got reception as we drove to the beach, suddenly I had a million texts and voice mails from then DP (now dh)! 😂

CKBluebell · 13/08/2017 05:02

SnorkMaiden don't be upset. You were being nice enough, it's not your fault the OP took it the wrong way.
It all sounds like a load of nonsense to me anyway..

Although I am just a random on the internet I would honestly like to apologise for getting it all wrong and jumping back at you. I am so sorry. You were nice indeed. Smile

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 13/08/2017 07:19

Snork are you okay? 💐

Fantastic name BTW. I call Moomintroll. 😂

fedupandnogin · 13/08/2017 07:26

I'd been on two dates when my BF went away for a week. He contacted me a lot (although not every day) with messages and we spoke about three times during the week. It was nice to know he was thinking of me and staying in touch and I think it moved the relationship forward.

Cailleach666 · 13/08/2017 07:28

Partner?

A new boyfriend and you have had a few dates in four weeks.
You barely know the guy.

x2boys · 13/08/2017 07:35

She has already explained English is her fourth language and wasent sure of the correct term CailleHmm but even so some relationships move fast I married my dh after just six months everyone said it wouldn't last but it was our 12th wedding anniversary yesterday so there yo go.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 13/08/2017 07:37

People saying they wouldn't expect contact - why do people try to seem so overly laid back on here? If your new boyfriend blanked you for two weeks you wouldn't care? Oh please.

paraparaparadise292 · 13/08/2017 07:51

@x2boys thank you!

paraparaparadise292 · 13/08/2017 07:52

@x2boys was just about to say that! It has been said a thousand times already.

Also all these comments with no contact at all seem ridiculous
