FGS, being a feminist means you think women are equal to men. End of.

I know this is meant to be jokey, but you're all contributing to the problem!

VladmirsPoutine · 07/08/2017 13:22

I know this is meant to be jokey, but you're all contributing to the problem!

I wondered how long the thread would last before this.

I'm not a feminist but think there's potential for some good in the cause if other so-called feminists could just stop telling other women what to think, feel and do in order to qualify as a feminist.

TheEmojiMovieLooksShite · 07/08/2017 13:25

I am a feminist and I strongly believe easy access to online porn is damaging the sexual development of young people which is particularly detrimental to women but I enjoy looking at online porn Confused

LouBlue1507 · 07/08/2017 13:29

I believe I'm a bad feminist as I believe and want equal rights for all.

However, I'm more than happy for a man to hold a door open for me or to my share of a bill, if offered.

PsychoPumpkin · 07/08/2017 13:32

I'm a feminist but I'm also a contented SAHP who knits, sews & bakes. I took my husband's last name & had my dad give me away. I read novels with pastel coloured covers & quite obvious endings and wear make up when I can be bothered.

I am a feminist and so is my husband.

shirleythefamilyguy · 07/08/2017 13:58

Genuinely people actually don't take the bins out? And always leave this to their partner? WTF?!

littlemisssweetness · 07/08/2017 13:59

I'm a feminist- but I also love doing "wife work" (keeping the house clean,
Cooking etc etc)

TheSolitaryBoojum · 07/08/2017 14:06

Shirley, I do the bins. We've always split jobs along the lines of inclination and ability, rather than gender. So I do the garden, except when the job involves strength or height. In which case, I supervise as I'm head gardener.

shirleythefamilyguy · 07/08/2017 14:16

Solitary fair enough. I was just a bit surprised by how many people seem to think the bins are a man's job. Surely bins just need taking out when they need taking out?

Eolian · 07/08/2017 14:21

None of these things make you a bad feminist fgs. Surely the whole point of feminism is to campaign for equal rights - not to make you feel forced to conform to a whole different set of societal expectations instead of the old ones. How on earth can choosing to knit or bake because you enjoy it mean that you're a bad feminist?

Moussemoose · 07/08/2017 14:29

Eolian

None of these things make you a bad feminist fgs

That's kind of the point I'm making. There can be an idea that only politically aware 'wimin' with the right attitudes can be classed as feminists. Lots of women are alienated by some of the discourse. We hear cries of "how can you call yourself a feminist when you ?"

So I am a feminist but I need to spend time objectifying male actors, with swords and few clothes....

I am a bad feminist because I have a frivolous sense of humour.

abigcupoffuckyou · 07/08/2017 14:31

None of these things make one not a feminist, or a bad one.

shirleythefamilyguy · 07/08/2017 14:33

Out of interest, can a man be a feminist and still enjoy objectifying women?

TheSolitaryBoojum · 07/08/2017 14:33

Well, back in the day, bins were a man's job if you had one handy, because they weren't on wheels. I remember my dad and my grandfather being obliging to neighbours on bin night. Dragging a metal dustbin down the ginnel wasn't a lightweight activity.

Moussemoose · 07/08/2017 14:35

Bins definitely a mans job. And if the man chooses to do with his shirt off while wielding a sword so much the better.

Hmm

The poor posters talking about waxing, shaving & wearing make up and believing it's your choice to do so...Sorry to tell you but you are only doing these things unthinkingly because the patriarchy have got to you Hmm

TheSolitaryBoojum · 07/08/2017 14:36

Depends how he's objectifying them. OH has a fine arts degree and has studied a lot of nude women in his time. There's looking, appreciating and being unpleasantly creepy and disturbing.

LorLorr2 · 07/08/2017 14:37

I suppose I'm a feminist..but I feel I have equal rights to men in this country and I quite enjoy when I'm playing the traditional role BlushBlush

shirleythefamilyguy · 07/08/2017 14:38

I guess by objectifying I meant in the 'I'd like them to wander around half naked and wielding sexy objects' sense rather than in the life model sense [grink]

MelvinThePenguin · 07/08/2017 14:39

I'll choose pink for my DDs clothes (maybe even sparkly too), even if there are non-gender stereotypical options available Shock.

Moussemoose · 07/08/2017 14:40

TheSolitaryBoojum
being unpleasantly creepy and disturbing errrr oh dear I think I may be heading towards this......

Mumof56 come on you know you fancy a bit of objectifying. I'll let you choose what name to call the object of your desire.Wink

The last country show I went to had a number of shirtless tree surgeons just improving the scenery by their presence. I appreciated but did not stare in an unseemly fashion.
