Apparently my husband Dosent and " why would I " Hmm
And the Lords Prayer is " all brainwashing bollox anyway " along with his theory That the christian church and the Catholic church are brainwashing bollox that sacrifice goats
I'm actually very disappointed in him
the Lords Prayer was said in primary school by the majority of primary school pupils right ? It was as commonplace as singing hymns
Admittedly I don't know the WHOLE of the National Anthem but I know the first verse at least
I find his attitude just fucking pig ignorant and down right rude
He's 46 years old for Christ sakes he's not 20 where it's probably not the done thing now

I'm Jewish. i don' t know the lord's prayer

DoesHeWantToOrNot · 06/08/2017 21:25

I don't know the lords prayer and I'm 32. It wasn't used in my primary school. No prayers were.

BoysofMelody · 06/08/2017 21:26

Why do you consider it important? I take that back if he's a newly ordained Church minister, then he might want to rethink his career.

lozzylizzy · 06/08/2017 21:26

I know the national anthem. I can mime the words to lords prayer when required (if I said words out loud some would be wrong)

bambambini · 06/08/2017 21:27

Aren't religions brainwashing by nature - especially when they get em young!

Not that i think you're actually being serious.

bloodymaria · 06/08/2017 21:27

How can you only know the first verse of Flower of Scotland?!

MartinJD · 06/08/2017 21:28

From what you've said it sounds like your husband doesn't believe in christianity, which in itself isn't unreasonable.

However I'm somewhat surprised that you didn't already know his view on this subject though? One would say it's fairly fundamental? How long have you been married?

Cheers!
M.JD

EdmundCleverClogs · 06/08/2017 21:28

Well there's the argument that the Lord's Prayer shouldn't be used in all school assemblies due it all being the brainwashing bollocks your husband speaks about.

I used to know TLP, but only in Welsh. As for the national anthem, if you're talking about God Save the Queen, then no, I don't know or care to know a word of it.

I find his attitude just fucking pig ignorant and down right rude

Why? I don't think he's the ignorant one here....

leighdinglady · 06/08/2017 21:28

I know them but I certainly think you're being extremely harsh calling him pig ignorant!! Why would he know the Lord's Prayer if he's not religious and didn't go to a school that said it in assembly. How many Jewish/Muslim/any other religion songs do you know?

Balfe · 06/08/2017 21:28

I can say the Our Father and sing Amhrán na bhFiann Hmm

NoKidsTwoCats · 06/08/2017 21:28

33 here. I only know bits of the first verse of the National Anthem and the Lord's Prayer is patchy and rusty to say the least.

WellErrr · 06/08/2017 21:29

You sound disproportionately angry about this.

I know the Lord's Prayer as they did it in my school - but I also know that not all schools did.

AgentProvocateur · 06/08/2017 21:29

My longest ever thread on here was about the Lord's Prayer and the alternative wording we learned in school (forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors)! I went to a funeral and said it fir the first time in 35 years and it all came rushing back.

Don't know more than the first line of the national anthem.

DoesHeWantToOrNot · 06/08/2017 21:29

@bloodymaria that was the one that popped into my head straight away as well!

AnnieOH1 · 06/08/2017 21:29

I don't know the national anthem. Although I do know the US one. I also recall the Lords Prayer from school although don't use it in worship.

TittyGolightly · 06/08/2017 21:30

Which national anthem? Welsh, yes, Scottish, yes, English, fuck no.

Littlecaf · 06/08/2017 21:30

I know both but only thanks to Brownies (national anthem) and school assemblies (Lords Prayer).

Otherwise I wouldn't know them as i have Republican/Non religious parents who didn't teach me them!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/08/2017 21:30

I know the lord's prayer (the forgive our debtors version) - I don't know any of the words to the "national" anthem

LordPercy · 06/08/2017 21:30

I know the Lords Prayer, the National Anthem AND (more importantly) ALL of Flower Of Scotland 👍🏼

Ohyesiam · 06/08/2017 21:30

Considering most period on the planet are Chinese, YABU

dotdotdotmustdash · 06/08/2017 21:31

My DC at 20 and 18 probably know neither and none of us has a problem with that. We're Scottish and non-religious. I know them both because I've had 48 years of brainwashing but I didn't want the same influences for my own children. I would rather they memorise the songs and poems that mean something to them.

GotToGetMyFingerOut · 06/08/2017 21:31

Lords prayer drummed into us at primary school. National Anthem no. Don't give a flying fuck about God saving the queen.

Think you are being ridiculous with your reaction.

Tazerface · 06/08/2017 21:32

I know a bit of the national anthem because I learned it in Brownies. I don't know the Lord's Prayer because both primary and secondary schools were not religious and you don't learn that as part of RE.

IdoHaveAName · 06/08/2017 21:32

Sin na fianna fail

Our father.....

ButchyRestingFace · 06/08/2017 21:32

I know the Lord's Prayer and Flower of Scotland.

I couldn't tell you the words to God save the queen and wouldn't want to.
