Apparently my husband Dosent and " why would I " Hmm
And the Lords Prayer is " all brainwashing bollox anyway " along with his theory That the christian church and the Catholic church are brainwashing bollox that sacrifice goats
I'm actually very disappointed in him
the Lords Prayer was said in primary school by the majority of primary school pupils right ? It was as commonplace as singing hymns
Admittedly I don't know the WHOLE of the National Anthem but I know the first verse at least
I find his attitude just fucking pig ignorant and down right rude
He's 46 years old for Christ sakes he's not 20 where it's probably not the done thing now

I know all the words to the Our Father but would be shaky or not have a clue re National Anthem. I'm not sure why you think he's pig ignorant.

StillDrivingMeBonkers · 06/08/2017 21:32

Most people cant get past the first verse of the national anthem.

Judging by the shoddy efforts at sports events, I would suggest the majority of sports people would struggle with the first line of the national anthem.

I know the LP but my children (in their 20's) don't.

caffeinestream · 06/08/2017 21:32

I know the Lord's Prayer, but not the national anthem.

MaidOfStars · 06/08/2017 21:32

I can do the short Lord's Prayer - not the 'for theirs is the kingdom...' bit (is that an extended version?).

I could probably get through the first verse of God Save The Queen. But given I cannot imagine an occasion where I would voluntarily sing it, I'm not too worried.

Longdistance · 06/08/2017 21:33

Does he know kumbaya my lord? If so, then all is good.

CockacidalManiac · 06/08/2017 21:33

I'd proof read your own posts before ranting about the ignorance of others; I'd never normally play the grammar fairy, but the way you've spoken about your husband is pretty unpleasant.

TwitterQueen1 · 06/08/2017 21:33

Why are you so (unreasonably) angry?

And it's bollocks, btw, not bollox.

OrgyofSausages · 06/08/2017 21:34

The Lord's Prayer is the prayer which Jesus taught his disciples. It is a fundamental tenet of Christianity.
People may not be religious per se but it is very ignorant and offensive to describe it using expletives. Try to be a little more mature and less abusive if possible.Hmm

BackforGood · 06/08/2017 21:35

YABU to move from "My dh ought to...." to "Everyone ought to...."

Lots of people are not Christians and did not learn it / say it daily in their schools, so, why should they?

I'm a bit more surprised if most people can't join in the National Anthem of their Country though.

Palegreenstars · 06/08/2017 21:35

Nope.

I learnt all the words to the theme time to Fresh Prince of Bel Air in primary school though - and that's come in quite useful.

SnarkOfTheThunderPants · 06/08/2017 21:35

I know the Lord's Prayer - the catholic version.
Don't know the national anthem though, apart from the bits that go "God save the Queen" the rest is da da da bla bla

TheFaerieQueene · 06/08/2017 21:36

I can recite the Lord's Prayer but have absolutely no intention of ever doing so. As for the national anthem, it is a dirge and I don't sing along, but again, I probably know the words.

Tiptoethr0ughthetulips · 06/08/2017 21:36

Your husband must be comiting bigamy because I'm pretty sure I'm married to him two Wink.
I think he did say the Lords prayer at our wedding though, although he may just have mumbled. Only hymn he admits to knowing is that 'Autumn days' one we sang at infant school.

Tiptoethr0ughthetulips · 06/08/2017 21:37

*too

Lenl · 06/08/2017 21:37

I don't know them. I have no wish to know them.

Oddly I know the beginning of Psalm 23 but only because I thought that might be the lord's prayer so googled it Grin

I cannot believe how pig ignorant I am.

Mightywease · 06/08/2017 21:38

I know the words to both ....but I don't always choose to say/sing them and I don't consider them essential to know, especially the national anthem

Oops4 · 06/08/2017 21:38

I know all of flower of Scotland. I don't know Lord's Prayer or god save the queen and wouldn't say them if I did.

And no, all schools should not be teaching the Lord's Prayer ffs

Penfold007 · 06/08/2017 21:38

Why is his attitude "fucking pig ignorant"?

Mmm...

Our father who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is heaven
Give us this day, our daily bread
And lead us not into temptation (can remember the rest but ...)
.... whoop! I kind of remembered the first bit!!!! Have no idea what it all means !!! And am not religious so really really think it is not important to know it!! (Apologies god if you do exist! Although I feel if you do, I'm sure you don't mind me forgetting this !)

The national anthem.. yup I know the first verse

Have no idea why all this is important to you though!

I think it is creepy that I remember some words of the Lord's Prayer drummed into me age 6!

FadedRed · 06/08/2017 21:38

I do know three verses of the national anthem, including the racist one.
I do know the Lord's Prayer in English and Latin.
I don't know why you are so bothered about someone, even your DH, not knowing them.

Lana1234 · 06/08/2017 21:39

Don't know either and I'm quite content with that.

anon333222111 · 06/08/2017 21:39

Meant to say .. 'cannot remember the rest'

ButchyRestingFace · 06/08/2017 21:39

Don't know the national anthem though, apart from the bits that go "God save the Queen" the rest is da da da bla bla

Sounds a bit like the unforgettable 90s classic Blue Da Ba Dee.

StatelessPrincess · 06/08/2017 21:39

I know the Lord's prayer, had to say it every morning at primary school, and I'm not that old and I'm Muslim. My primary school was fairly odd though. I don't think I properly know God Save the Queen, just bits of it. I'm not sure why you find your husband rude or are disappointed, seems an odd reaction.
