Apparently my husband Dosent and " why would I " Hmm
And the Lords Prayer is " all brainwashing bollox anyway " along with his theory That the christian church and the Catholic church are brainwashing bollox that sacrifice goats
I'm actually very disappointed in him
the Lords Prayer was said in primary school by the majority of primary school pupils right ? It was as commonplace as singing hymns
Admittedly I don't know the WHOLE of the National Anthem but I know the first verse at least
I find his attitude just fucking pig ignorant and down right rude
He's 46 years old for Christ sakes he's not 20 where it's probably not the done thing now

OrgyofSausages

Sorry to describe it as bollocks. I'll try again.

The Lord's Prayer is a silly made up verse to brainwash the gullible into speaking to a made up sky-fairy. There, no expletives.

CockacidalManiac · 06/08/2017 21:40

Whenever I hear people talking about the National Anthem, it reminds me of Billy Connolly.

I know both, I assume from learning them in school or the year or so of Sunday school I attended. My ex knew neither which surprised me at the time, but then he'd only set foot in church for weddings and funerals ever. We're both 40.

My almost 12yo knows neither. Never learned either in school, he claims. Yet I have been in his school when they sang the anthem for the jubilee so that's not entirely true! He'll have to learn pronto, as he's off to a secondary school where both feature in every assembly (they even have a modified second or third verse of the anthem specific to the school!).

WeirdAndPissedOff · 06/08/2017 21:43

So he's not religious and doesn't know a religious song by heart? And he doesnt know the National Anthem, which you don't know either?
Calling him pig-ignorant for the above is rude, and quite sad.
Can you remember all of the hymns you used to sing in school?

cardibach · 06/08/2017 21:43

I know the Lord's Prayer and will say it or show respect for the views of others by being respectfully silent depending in the situation. Know the first versi of God Save the Queen but no more, and find it hideously cringey and wing sing it if I can avoid it. I'm an atheist republican and find it a bit offensive, tbh. I know the Welsh national anthem, which is much more inclusive, only requiring pride in/love of country and culture.

squoosh · 06/08/2017 21:43

And it's bollocks, btw, not bollox.

Not if you're from Dublin Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 06/08/2017 21:43

I thought I knew the Lord's Prayer, but the last time I heard it being recited it was a bit different to how I'd remembered it. It might have been a modernised version, I'm not sure. So I'm not 100% on it.

God Save the Queen, I can muddle through the first verse. I don't think I've ever heard the rest of it although I know there is more.

cardibach · 06/08/2017 21:44

Won't sing it*

FaceOnOff · 06/08/2017 21:44

I don't know what country you're in, OP, but we do not recite the Lord's Prayer in school in England unless it's a church school!

I only know the first verse of the NA because of watching period dramas.

Your husband sounds cool to me!

LittleJesse · 06/08/2017 21:44

At my school we have to say it each morning. I really like it. Sometimes it gets stuck in my head like a song Blush

grasspigeons · 06/08/2017 21:45

The rebellious Scots bit of the national anthem is rather fun if you like upsetting people.

SumAndSubstance · 06/08/2017 21:45

I'm a bit gobsmacked at the number of people that don't know these! I didn't go to religious schools either. Don't really know how I know the Lord's Prayer, but I can't imagine not doing. I'm also definitely not a fan of the royal family, but I know the lyrics to the National Anthem. Only the first verse, mind, then the next bit starts 'Thy gracious gifts in store' and moves on to crushing rebellious Scots. I don't remember anything else. Anyway, while I remain gobsmacked, I don't share your sense of outrage, so I suppose YABU.

TestTubeTeen · 06/08/2017 21:46

I am pretty sure my 16 year old knows neither.

Can maybe sing along with the first verse of the NA.

DeadDoorpost · 06/08/2017 21:46

I know the national anthem but never learned the Lords Prayer (and I'm Christian) we just never learned it at school

pasturesgreen · 06/08/2017 21:46

Well, OP, you sound extremely self-righteous for someone who only knows the first verse of the national anthem Hmm

I think you'd better get down your fucking high horse.

SpareChangeDownTheSofa · 06/08/2017 21:47

I went to primary school in the 90s, we had to say prayers (which I hated) but never the lords prayer and I still don't know it much to my mother's Shock

Don't know the national anthem either.

SadTrombone · 06/08/2017 21:48
Biscuit
GherkinSnatch · 06/08/2017 21:48

I know the Our Father because I'm Catholic.

Don't know the national anthem other than the "God save our gracious queen" bit, and that gracious changes to other words which can be helpfully substituted with "muhmuh" mumbling as long as you get a good strong "queen" in after. But I know Flower of Scotland, down to the additional "GUESS WHO!"s. Far more useful.

thefairyfellersmasterstroke · 06/08/2017 21:49

We had the Lord's prayer hammered into us at school, but the first time I heard it said by anyone else they had some of the words wrong. Or so I thought. Turns out there are othee versions and the one I learned was a rarer one, only it doesn't matter because I haven't said it in decades and probably never will again.

Same with God Save the Queen. Forced to know the first verse and chorus but have refused to sing it in more than 30 years. My children don't know either of them, and I'm glad.

I do know all the words to Flower of Scotland but think it is a fucking awful dirge, worse even than GSTQ. Scotland's National Anthem should be Scotland the Brave, or failing that, Shang-a-Lang. Nothing could be worse than Flowery Scotland!

SnarkOfTheThunderPants · 06/08/2017 21:49

Grin that's how it sounds in my head butchy.

FittonTower · 06/08/2017 21:50

I don't know the lords prayer and I've been to a few weddings where the order of service says "lords prayer" and every one gets up and just says it! Most of them will be closer to the bride or groom so churchy like them but that's always freaked me out a bit. I have no clue what the words are.
I probably know God Save the Queen, if pushed. Only the bit that gets sung at football matches tho

TestTubeTeen · 06/08/2017 21:50

Oh, and DH doesn't know the Lords Prayer.

You sound as if you just want a fight with him, and vice versa.

'Pig ignorant' Hmm

DoesHeWantToOrNot · 06/08/2017 21:50

Gherkin is it not "against who"

reuset · 06/08/2017 21:51

I know the Lord's Prayer and more besides

The national anthem, as a republican, I couldn't give a flying fig about.

squoosh · 06/08/2017 21:51

I still remember how to say the Angelus
