Met a guy got on well.
Had two dates previous and split the bill 50/50 and always have done as I think the man shouldn't pay BUT last night we went out to the pub and I was ordering a cocktail and him a pint.
I said "oh il get this round and you can get the next"
He said "your cocktail costs more than my pint"
I didn't even think about the price,I just thought rather than us buying drinks separate.
So I just got the drinks separately.
I would of happily got a cheaper drink or got him a more expensive but at this point I was a bit taken back.
My cocktail was £4.25 and his best £3.65 so not a lot of difference.
Now I'm thinking he is a bit tight?

Red flag. Step away.

ArDali1 · 06/08/2017 17:44

What a stingy little boy. A man would have paid for both meals on your dates, offer to buy drinks and not let you pay a single penny!

user1495656648 · 06/08/2017 17:50

he sounds the sort who would send you an invoice for his time and expenses if the relationship doesnt work out! dump him, block his number and count your blessings it was only the drinks you had to fork out for. Tight arse

Doris58 · 06/08/2017 17:54

Dump him. There are 1.5 billion men in the world between the ages of 25 to 50; he is a mere droplet in the ocean. Widen your own circle, the bigger the circle, the bigger your chances are of finding someone fascinating, intelligent, caring and fun.

chatty1 · 06/08/2017 17:54

On second thoughts and to see it from a different angle: did you give him a chance to offer to pay at all or is it you deciding all the time? I mean, did you say too firmly we pay 50/50 all the time (let's say he has been paying with other dates but with you is trying to go with the flow as you won't) so could he've just been sarcastic? as it is not 50/50 paying for the difference of your cocktail? 😉 in this case you could have said: ok you go and get your beer, I'll get my cocktail later!!

chatty1 · 06/08/2017 18:01

Aw no i put a long post before this one and lost it. Basically let a man pay, see how he offers or go with the flow and offer 50/50 if the man pays for you then make sure you pay as well other times. You can tell a lot about a man by how the deal with money : it ranges from being in one extreme ungenerous and the other extreme controlling. Observe them!! You wasted 3 dates with this guy maybe because of your insistence to pay rather than observe and see what he does first!!

GinnyWreckin · 06/08/2017 18:01

Did he charge you for his ejaculate?

I could imagine him weighing up the before and after condom, and muttering 10cc = ££ and getting his invoice book out though sounds like you paid for that shag already

Sounds like a miser and a loser.
Dump him, but put a "80% Sale" sticker on his back so we can all ID him!

MCamp10 · 06/08/2017 18:09

Never ignore early warning bells. These are ringing loudly!

TipTopTipTopClop · 06/08/2017 18:10

Block his number.

Lovingit81 · 06/08/2017 18:15

Ha ha ha what a twat! Get rid!

ImperialBlether · 06/08/2017 18:28

I'd be so tempted to send him a text in a couple of weeks' time to say I was pregnant and that you were going to inform child support.

UneMoonit · 06/08/2017 18:29

Nothing wrong with being equal about spending money, it's not the 1950s - and nothing wrong with not wanting to do rounds when you are on the cocktails, which could make one round for 2 people push 20 quid.

payment for it

RUN RUN RUN

user1483875094 · 06/08/2017 18:57

Hi Miami,

through bitter experience, I can tell you, you are VERY very lucky to have been so clearly given the serious warning signs. This is bad. This is very bad, and will only ever get worse. Run - and never have anything to do with him again. It's revolting behaviour, but it masks a more unpleasant personality lurking beneath which you can never, ever build any kind of relationship on. Please cut and run. Please let us know you have? xxxx

ImperialBlether · 06/08/2017 18:57

Did you actually read the thread, @UneMoonit?

The OP's drink was 55p more than his.

She bought him a drink, then he went and bought himself one, without offering her one.

iMogster · 06/08/2017 18:58

I went out with a tight wad like this, it was miserable. He earned double the amount I did, so when we always paid 50/50 it was equal, but not fair if you know what I mean. At the end of the month he would go out with our mutual friends as he still had disposable income left, while I stayed in as I had no money left. He quibbled over tiny amounts and had a memory like an elephant when it came to lending me £1 bus fare.
20 years on and I am with a lovely man and my ex is still single. Grin

Shona52 · 06/08/2017 19:08

There wouldn't be another date with me. That's just ridiculous ffs

user1483875094 · 06/08/2017 19:13

I posted a warning earlier to Miami, but think I might need to put this into context... I ended up marrying a man like this, (in spite of the warning signs, and some troubles which I was utterly stupid enough to try to ignore). To "epitomise it", some while later, when we were having an argument about me living in relative "poverty" (no money for clothes or even basic toiletry requirements, whilst caring for our child, and whilst he was living the lads' life, smart car, smart clothes, smart evenings out with so-called work colleagues, he declared that "he couldn't THINK what I was complaining about, because ... (get this) Haven't I just bought you a High Chair for (child xxx) !!

When I exclaimed, No, YOU have bought ME a high - chair, - I don';t need one, your DAUGHTER does, and so out of our JOINT INCOME "we" HAVE purchased OUR daughter a high chair.... the look of profound shock and disbelief on his face, said it all. He simply, and utterly did not understand. We left shortly after.

HelenaDove · 06/08/2017 19:15

user I hope he is paying/has paid Child Support.

wizzywig · 06/08/2017 19:17

Can i ask, do you all have big garages? Where do you store this stuff?

wizzywig · 06/08/2017 19:17

Yeah that was supposed to be put on the Costco thread.

iMogster · 06/08/2017 19:46

user that's a whole new level of tight, to live a life of luxury but leave you and your DD without essentials.

Jessikita · 06/08/2017 19:49

Dump him. He didn't offer to pay on first date eitger

worridmum · 06/08/2017 19:52

What i hate is people thinking a blokes a tight arse for not paying for the first date, isnt that the women who is firmly keeping her purse closed the actual tight arse?

While your (hopefully EX) is not only tight but rude you should dump him.

My comment was for the other posters who expect the bloke to pay for first dates.

manicmij · 06/08/2017 20:27

Meanie to say the least. Couldn't be bothered with having to calculate everything to the last penny. Dump him.
