Wedding First Dance

Getting married to DP next July.

I feel doing a choreographed YMCA, Macarena or ShaddapaYaFace would be spectacular. He disagrees.

We have discussed the possibility of omitting it entirely, but are still looking for common ground.

AIBU or is he BU? Any alternative suggestions?

Not a choreographed dance, but...

One wedding DH worked at, bride and groom, first dance, lovely. Then the bridesmaids, best man, ushers all joined them on the dance floor for Kanye West’s ‘Gold digger’. I don’t think the grooms parents entirely approved of their sons choice of bride and this was their little dig back at the. Vair funny.

We have settled on a two person conga to "Eleanor Rigby".

There may be hats involved

I agree, a choreographed dance would be amazing... but unfortunately you can't force him!

PatrickMerricksGoshawk · 02/07/2018 04:51

Good grief, moira. Did you have that post on a timer or something?

Well OP, it's July! What's the plan?

TheCatOfAthenry · 02/07/2018 07:28

We don't really have a plan! I'll let you know on the 21st (day after).

The cake will have polka dots, so we do have that going for us.

My son and DIL did a traditional slow dance for their first,

But preplanned with the DJ as it drew to a close they drew my kids up to the floor (theres 6 and various partners) to 'start the dancing'

Backstory is, when they were all young/growing up we couldn't afford big holidays so late notice 4 day breaks in Butlins and Holiday camps were how we had hols. Of course they learned ALL the party dances as they grew up and for a laugh we still chuck them all on for family parties and all the kids still join in.

The DJ did 3 or 4 of those songs, before finishing up with 'The floor is lava' and chaos ensued.

It was a bit tacky but it did bring back lovely memories of my almost grown children and cheap holidays lol

A first dance? Fairly traditional I believe.

Choreographed ? newer

Your marriage is doomed.

AlonsosLeftPinky · 02/07/2018 14:12

All first dances are tragic so you may aswell have the one you want, or can both compromise on.

Gluttie20 · 07/08/2018 17:12

If you are going have a dance, have a choreographed one instead of just swaying back and forth for 4 mins..imo

frecklesMaybe · 07/08/2018 17:30

It sounds horrific. Thank god I was married before this nonsense.

A traditional first dance is not new, choreographed, oh yes.

Sunnymeg · 07/08/2018 17:42

Best first dance I saw was a bride and groom who learnt and danced a very simple ballroom routine. It wasn't a full on strictly number, just a nice dance in time with the music.
