Wedding First Dance

TheCatOfAthenry · 04/08/2017 18:31

Getting married to DP next July.

I feel doing a choreographed YMCA, Macarena or ShaddapaYaFace would be spectacular. He disagrees.

We have discussed the possibility of omitting it entirely, but are still looking for common ground.

AIBU or is he BU? Any alternative suggestions?

No, no, no, no. You must do the birdy song.

CoughLaughFart · 06/08/2017 13:45

What about recreating the video to 'Stay' by Shakespeare's Sister? Your husband can lie in the middle of the dance floor pretending to die, meaning he doesn't have to do much, while you perform a dramatic grief scene. All you need to do is get your maid of honour to burst in halfway in a black onesie to play the mad-eyed one who used to be a banana. Quite the memorable spectacle.

Whiterabbitears · 06/08/2017 13:48

Nellie the Elephant from the 80's where you all have to pretend you have trunks? I bet no one has done that one, you will be unique Grin

TheCatOfAthenry · 06/08/2017 13:48

@CoughLaughFart I don't know it but I like the sound of it.

@Whiterabbitears or Mr. Blobby!

OP posts:
Whiterabbitears · 06/08/2017 13:49

Oh please do having a gang bang!

Whiterabbitears · 06/08/2017 13:50

Yes Mr Blobby!

MsHarry · 06/08/2017 18:08

They were funny for a while but a bit over now, unless you can come up with something really original. It depends on your personalities. On the night it won't matter because everyone will be there for for you whatever you decide.

Hudson10 · 06/08/2017 19:17

Sounds like great fun to me, ignore all the misery guts. Smile
Not something I'd do myself, but I'd love to watch anything like that, sounds fun!
Doing the routine from Friends would be brilliant. Grin

"5, 6, 7, 8!" "Boys are trouble......."

you could then go into robot mode but we don't want to look stupid lol

Carouselfish · 06/08/2017 21:41

Friends did one that was choreographed but was still an actual couples' dance, a normal Strictly style effort. So that's not cringe.

Carouselfish · 06/08/2017 21:41

I mean MY friends, not 'Friends'

CaveMum · 06/08/2017 21:48

You need to do this one!

DonaldStott · 06/08/2017 22:32

Oh god, this reminds me of a thread where the OP was jealous that they re-enacted their wedding dance and someone stole it Grin

LovelyOtherDinosaur · 06/08/2017 22:43

@Whiterabbitears haha not quite the first dance but I did see nelly the elephant 'performed' at a wedding a good few years ago. Bride was up in a chair in the middle of a circle of people. Full on pretend elephant trunks, all the actions and everything.

This was a no kid wedding.

Later at the same wedding the best man did the (nearly) full monty on the stage. Was amusing for about 20 secs as it started off like a haha this is going to skip to another sims but nooooo but we had to endure the full 3 1/2 mins of the song and the uber cringe strip. Bust his sporran by swinging it above his head and throwing it into the crowd and smashing on the wooden floor ( narrowly missing a wee granny on the way!)

kateandme · 07/08/2017 05:59

why does it have to be cringe.could it be people having fun and not bothered and happy within themselves to just let go and be crazy together.

Buckinghambae · 07/08/2017 06:20

Do what makes you happy, I've been married 9 years so this wasn't a common thing at the time. Our dance was "choreographed", yes to the Birdy song and Macarena and Jump around and of course MC Hanmer.

I'm sure that it was completely cringey to some, but we had a laugh and loads of friends and family say it was the most fun first dance they've seen.

MN is weird, here weddings are all about exactly what you want till your first dance then it's strictly about the slow right hand shuffle.

Do whatever the hell you want, it's your day!

Whiterabbitears · 07/08/2017 07:09

@lovelyother dinosaur that is so random! I would have loved to see that Grin

starsorwater · 07/08/2017 07:14

Dance the Landler, like in the Sound of Music. That'll slay 'em.

londonrach · 07/08/2017 07:17

Thats one thing im glad i didnt do nor my dsis. Only know one couple who did. Do what dh and you feel happy to do

bananafish81 · 07/08/2017 07:28

We did our first dance to a song by an artist we both love - called 'I can't shake it', by Kate Miller Heidke

It's a song all about not being able to dance

Includes lyrics like

^When we go out dancing on a Friday night
I get this funny feeling something's not quite right
My sense of rhythm is incontrovertibly shite
I can't fake it^

And

^Tried moving my body to the latest hit
Someone called the nurse thought I was having a fit
I execute the moonwalk like I stepped in shit
I can't take it^

We basically just threw ourselves around the dance floor and danced like no one was watching. Wasn't choreographed but was bloody awesome fun. Then everyone ran onto the dance floor to join us - it was ace

A slow dance just wouldn't have been 'us' - do whatever makes you happy OP!

namechanged90 · 07/08/2017 09:22

My Sisters first dance was Gangnam Style! Seriously!

TheCatOfAthenry · 07/08/2017 12:46

@bananafish81 that's just wonderful. Grin

I like the cut of your jib.

JeremyCorbynsBeard · 07/08/2017 20:42

You should do the "Torn" mime

I'd love to be at a party, then just get up and do this, without so much as a word to anyone. Then just sit down and carry on with my dinner Grin

viques · 08/08/2017 00:26

I think you have a unique opportunity here OP, to take a stand against common or garden first dances and start a new trend. how about a bit of drama, say a moving scene from Shakespeare perhaps, or if you are feeling ironic , a bit of who's afraid of Virginia Wolf.

if you still feel the need for physicality then I think there's a lot to be said for a Maori Hakka, a bit intimidating but will put any drunk uncles in their place.
