To do my make up in Pret?

I'm in Pret for my morning coffee. Didn't make the time to do my make up before I got the bus. Would I bu to do it here, discretely, in Pret? I was about to do so but then realised I've seen this classed as unreasonable on mm not before, and now I'm scared! Well not really, but if it's a massive faux paux I won't do it.

So as not to drip feed... All the benches outside in the high street are wet.

Yes, plenty of places do sell coffee. But I don't see what that's got to do with the point of the thread?

NoLoveofMine · 04/08/2017 12:18

Pret is on Deliveroo here. Is it acceptable to order from them and be in the midst of make up application when answering the door do the delivery driver?

KoalaDownUnder · 04/08/2017 12:23

Well, I guess the person who asked the thread thought that some places that sell coffee might be more appropriate for applying makeup in than other places that sell coffee?

It was a genuine question from another poster. You could have answered it in the time you took to post a bitchy retort.

SizeSevenShoes · 04/08/2017 12:23

Googling "Pret" the first hit is it's webpage - "organic coffee natural food"

Takes less time to open a tab and Google "Pret" than to type on MN "What is a PRET"

HotelEuphoria Putting on make up is not the same as shaving. A woman shaving is the same as shaving. Comparing a bloke shaving to a woman putting on make-up puts me in mind of the breastfeeding/using the toilet arguments. Fucking stupid.

I think you should get up earlier and do your personal grooming at home. There again I also cannot abide seeing people chow down on muesli as soon as they get into the office either.

There's a lady who gets the bus to work I assume, who does her makeup whilst on the bus! I don't know how she's brave enough to do it on a very fast bumpy road. Not once have I saw her poke herself in the eye or get lipstick all up her cheeks. I can't feed my 12 week old on the bus without managing to poke her in the eye or dribble milk all down her chin lol

See I think the complete opposite of redfairy

I wouldn't sacrifice an extra ten precious minutes of sleep just so up-tight middle class wankers in Pret won't judge me for doing my face in public.

I just live for a bit of flagrant vanity. I love it Smile

What a bunch of fuddy duddies.

She's putting on a bit of makeup not wiping her arse with baguette at the table.

My mornings are really bloody stressful getting a toddler out to nursery and then setting off on my own commute. I'm not a morning person, I never get enough sleep, I've got the usual domestic issues to contend with plus the emails from clients that usually start at about 8am.

So if I can take a bit of pressure off myself by doing makeup on the commute or eating breakfast in the office, I will do that. Because what you think is extremely far down my list of priorities.

The simple answer to 'What is Pret':

Imagine Subway and Starbucks had a baby, and it grew up to have delusions of grandeur - that's what Pret is.

paxillin · 04/08/2017 13:20

It is safer than on the bus. I always wonder how many people poke their own eye out every year doing their mascara on a bus or tube train.

MrsJamesFrazer · 04/08/2017 13:22

Not something I'd do but then I don't do makeup! Lol.
There was a girl next to me on the tube just now with eyelash curlers out and everything!! Shock

sheep73 · 04/08/2017 13:25

I think its gross when people sit on the train / bus / cafe doing their make up..

rupertpenryswife · 04/08/2017 13:28

Seriously what is tacky about it? if you don't like it don't look!! Yes do it in Pret I touch up in public I don't care, if i see someone do the same you know what I don't think anything. If people get offended by this they will get some shocks in the real world.

Floggingmolly · 04/08/2017 13:31

A lot of halfwits seem to have that attitude, unfortunately. "I'll do what the hell I like, if YOU don't like it, don't look!!"
Charmers.

BlondeB83 · 04/08/2017 13:33

I've just done the basics of mine in Nero. Grin

EdmundCleverClogs · 04/08/2017 13:35

Floggingmolly, if you or anyone else can explain why putting makeup on in public is so awful then maybe you'd have a point. Otherwise this is one of those rare situations where it really does call for 'don't like, don't look'. It harms no one, it causes no ill to anyone, so what's the problem, exactly?

thepumpk1neater · 04/08/2017 13:40

Are we talking about a bit of lipstick? Fine. If you mean the full works of makeup then you should go to the loo. Brushing hair and applying make up where people are eating, not good.

ConstanceCraving · 04/08/2017 13:43

Cutting your toenails and plucking your eyebrows "harms nobody" either but I doubt people would want to see those things whilst they're eating their morning croissant. There's a time and place I guess for everything.
