We're going to have to call a halt to Brexit aren't we?

Lukewarm Remain voter here. Understand that the Government has to listen to 'the will of the people' and all that.

But for the love of God, now that it's clear what absolute economic suicide we're committing surely we've got to put a halt to it whilst the govt and the opposition work out what the fuck's going on!

Are you also not willing to say had we worked harder maybe we could have got a different result?

Ask the owners of the Daily Mail, Telegraph, Express and The Sun.

Just to mention, 21 more messages and thread will be locked at 1000 posts.

Is anyone interested in starting a new one?

(I'm a lurker, but I might pluck up the courage to post at some point!)

mummmy2017 · 11/08/2017 12:18

You ask who we was.
We as in the remain campaign, if you lose and say it's all the other parties fault, how would you have changed this if you knew this info in June 2016, and how close it would be?
What could you have done differently, if you knew the leavers were voting as you now know and wouldn't change their minds, that leaves the non voters as the only way to defeat the vote.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 11/08/2017 12:22

Mummy, please don't try to twist this away from where the responsibility lies. This shit belongs to the Brexit patriots.

No it doesn't, there were 13 million people who didn't bother.
We wanted this went out and voted this and got what we wanted.
13 million should have got out and done something, and choose not to.
they were not held hostage in their own homes, they sat and watched it happen and took no part in the vote.
if you don't do something you have to accept responsibility for not doing it and allowing others to have their will.

bridgetoc · 11/08/2017 12:29

"We're going to have to call a halt to Brexit aren't we"

Call a halt to the democratic will of the people? It's not going to happen....... Thank christ.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 11/08/2017 12:31

will of the people or tyranny of the majority?

mummmy2017 · 11/08/2017 12:44

There were 17 million of us.
Why can't you take responsibility for your side not being able to win.
Labour lost an election and Corbyn claimed to have won.
In the last 10 years I have noticed a growing trend from people to have a result handed to them as a done deal, and they then protest it wasn't want they wanted and to want it changed to suit them.
This is not how politics work.

MissionItsPossible · 11/08/2017 12:46

Halting Brexit would be disastrous and would quite rightly change the way Politics and the way we look at Politicians forever. There would be civil unrest.

There's no point in blaming anyone except Cameron and the senior tories that supported the idea of the referendum.

Interestingly, I think Osbourne advised against it.

It was one of the most foolhardy moves in recent history, fuelled by Cameron's laziness, lack of real leadership and breathtaking arrogance.

fakenamefornow · 11/08/2017 12:48

I have a friend who didn't vote and I have a lot of respect for his reasons. He is very well educated, PHD level. He read for hours on Brexit, watched the debates, asked loads questions. He decided that he was completely unqualified to make a decision on this. I have a lot more respect for his position than for people who read nothing more than the Daily Mail headlines (my mum) then think they're a fucking expert .

I read for hours and hours myself, I followed both Leave and Remain groups on facebook and read lots of the links. I looked up what all the EU institutions actually do and how the EU works and is funded. I didn't even begin to scratch the surface of the amount of knowledge needed to make a properly informed decision on this. I think politicians (and others) saying that it's insulting to the public to say they aren't well informed enough on this to make that sort of decision is all just part of the anti expert agenda.

Funny how that falls in line with being just over 10 years that Twitter was created and became popular, isn't it?

mummmy2017 · 11/08/2017 12:49

The people at the top had no idea how the people at the bottom felt and would vote.

mummmy2017 · 11/08/2017 12:55

Looks like it's a case of we live with the result and work towards an attitude of telling people their vote really does matter, and that it's more important than they could ever believe to make the effort to control what happens to them by getting to the polls.

That's exactly how politics works.

We are a democracy which gives people the absolute right to try and change things. Democracy doesn't begin and end at the ballot box

CardinalSin · 11/08/2017 13:09

That's exactly the point Jacques! Brexiteers seem to think that democracy finished on June 24th 2016.

bridgetoc · 11/08/2017 13:10

@Motheroffourdragons......... Voice your concern as much as you like, you are right to do so. However, you are wrong to think you can keep having referendums until you get the result you want. You can't, and you wont......

I am purely talking about once the vote is counted.
If you don't like the result sometimes it can't be changed and you have to accept the result
If you don't like the things that lead on from the vote then you need to get proactive, so the next vote does reflect your views.

mummmy2017 · 11/08/2017 13:14

No we are not stopping Brexit
