We're going to have to call a halt to Brexit aren't we?

Lukewarm Remain voter here. Understand that the Government has to listen to 'the will of the people' and all that.

But for the love of God, now that it's clear what absolute economic suicide we're committing surely we've got to put a halt to it whilst the govt and the opposition work out what the fuck's going on!

gamer Feel free to leave the thread and not comment then. I haven't seen an MNHQ ruling that people can only post about the EU in the EU topic

I do skip a bunch but they're like spots, hard to ignore all the time and just as irritating. In the proper place I don't have to see them at all. Mumsnet helpful like that.

Don't you lot get sick of saying the same words over and over and over. Does it actually help?

Floisme · 31/07/2017 10:39

David Cameron is totally to blame and no-one else: possibly the most stupid man in the whole history of stupidity, all after receiving the best education money can buy.

threecee · 31/07/2017 10:40

Do you seriously want Corbyn as PM ?

Orangebird69 · 31/07/2017 10:40

So many leavers are now saying 'er....didn't realise this is what leave meant...er...can I change my mind'

I don't know any leavers that have said that...

SquareWord · 31/07/2017 10:41

Well it was clear at the time of the referendum that it was going to be economic suicide but people still voted for it so seemingly are quite happy for that to happen!

Beebee7 · 31/07/2017 10:42

It's going to be a lot tougher for the EU; they are losing £350 million a week.

All this 'it's economic suicide, we are all doomed' hoo-har is scaremongering propaganda. Mostly spewed out by people who benefit hugely from being in the EU, or from terrified millennials who have never known a life outside the EU, and think a massive 50 foot high wall is going to be erected all around the UK to stop anyone ever leaving the UK again.

And my favourite piece of bullshit propaganda is 'people who voted to leave didn't know what they were voting for!'

So obviously everyone who voted to remain DID know did they?

I have spoken to at least 5 remainers over the past year who thought it meant we could never travel to Europe again, who thought Australia was in the EU, and who thought I was 'making it up' when I said we pay £350 million a week in, (she said it was obviously that much a YEAR, not a week.')

So please don't try and tell me that it was the people who voted to LEAVE that 'didn't know what they were doing...'

And the complaint that 'Only 52% voted for it, so it's not fair' is ridiculous. If 52% had voted to remain, the remainers would have been screaming about how THEY got the majority so suck it up Brexiteers!!! The Leave vote won, and no amount of whining, throwing your toys out of the pram, stamping your feet, and demanding another referendum is going to change that. Sorry.

We'll be fine.

Honestly.

Oh and by the way, we are leaving.

There is nothing you can do about it.

Oh and @bunnyfuller. I don't know a single Brexiteer who has said 'oh can I change my mind and vote remain instead!' No Leave supporter has ever said that!

ShatnersWig · 31/07/2017 10:42

gamer Thing is, it's politics. As someone once said "a year is a long time in politics". The political and economic landscape is in constant flux - regardless of Brexit - so what someone thought six months ago can be totally different now because things change. Should they just shut up? Of course not.

They're not though, because they gave us quite a lot of that back in grants to aid deprived areas, you know, the ones that voted to Leave Hmm

SapphireStrange · 31/07/2017 10:45

We should stop it. I don't see how we can though, either politically or practically (businesses are already leaving/have left; ditto people from other EU countries).

I've never felt so miserable, scared and angry about anything before. Cameron should be strung up.

noblegiraffe · 31/07/2017 10:45

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/british-people-changed-minds-brexit-second-referendum-poll-finds-a7795591.html

A recent poll suggests that British people are changing their mind and want a second referendum on the terms of Brexit.

ShatnersWig · 31/07/2017 10:45

Beebee Your comment is exactly why there should never have been a referendum in the first place. There were people on BOTH sides who didn't have a clue. Which is why we elect politicians every few years to decide things for us without coming back to us every now and again to ask our advice on something which a lot of us don't have the first clue about.

EyeHalveASpellingChequer · 31/07/2017 10:45

It's going to be a lot tougher for the EU; they are losing £350 million a week

So all those grants and farm subsidies are coming out of nowhere?

MrsOverTheRoad · 31/07/2017 10:47

I think the UK has and IS literally selling itself. Great chunks of London "public space" are now owned by oil magnates and others abroad.

The powers that be don't give a shite.

LaurieMarlow · 31/07/2017 10:47

So obviously everyone who voted to remain DID know did they

They were voting to maintain the status quo, which is obviously infinitely more 'knowable' than throwing it out.

I would have thought that was obvious. Confused

It's a complete shit show and the best thing to do for everyone would be to backtrack.

No one has the political courage though.

We voted now, so we've got to do it.

FanwankTheAbsurd · 31/07/2017 10:50

Don't be so daft. Just because some Remainers are loudly stamping their feet, doesn't mean anything. The nation voted. The majority voted to Leave. So we will leave. All this hand-wringing won't change the facts.

Beebee7 · 31/07/2017 10:50

We give MUCH more to the EU than we get back. Surely you know that?!

Over double actually.

The comments remainers are coming out with on here, prove they indeed were far more likely to not have known what they were voting for.

Cuppaoftea · 31/07/2017 10:51

The referendum should have been held years earlier, there never was an electoral mandate for the level of integration in to the EU being agreed by previous British governments.

MirabelleTree · 31/07/2017 10:52

It's a fucking mess. Most of the Leavers I know have expressed a deep disappointment and disgust at how the Government are handling it. I think it is much too soon to call how things will pan out and personally am hoping for Brexit in Name Only.

Meanwhile I'm off to see Brexit the musical and find the humour in this ridiculous situation which is potentially screwing over my DC's generation . And thank goodness they eventually will be entitled to another EU passport.

This is entirely Cameron's fault for his arrogance in assuming we'd vote to remain and for running a piss poor campaign and him and Osborne for austerity. Having said that Teresa May hasn't helped one bit with her efforts which have stoked up the deep divide in the country which she really really needs to address and she lost any credibility after the election. And Boris is an fickle arrogant arsehole whilst I'm on the subject and as for Gove there have never been words.

Here we're fucked.
