I love all of the above mentioned, especially Jason Manford. And living in the heart of Manchester, actually where Jason was brought up, there are plenty of people that are just like him. Talk like him etc. And if you don't like him why are you listening to his radio show?
I suppose it all depends where in the north west you're from, Liverpool & Wigan are totally different places than Manchester

Yes, even though people recognise these places from their home town, it is NOT localised to them exact towns. It's the same the country over.

I hate when they put on a thick, broad accent. Paddy McGuiness is terrible for it. My extended family come from Bolton and none of them talk like Paddy.

YABU. I met Jason Manford at a charity do and he was lovely.

Reminds me of the Victoria Wood sketch with Jim Broadbent as a northern writer at a media party. He repeats throughout that he's "From the North" in an accent so thick you'd need a steak knife to cut it. She asks him where he lives and, without missing a beat, he says "Chiswick".

Parts of Lancashire and all of Cumbria are north west England. Salford is stretching it to far.

And it's just popped up on the Bolton news website that Peter Kay has donated £75,000 to a local charity set up in aid of a local boy who has cancer so I don't think he's rude or stingey.

Omg. I'm not picking on Jason Manford in particular. Just that ilk. But while we're on the subject of how 'lovely' he is, let's not forget he cheated on his wife with internet liaisons. Was that just his cheeky chappy northern couldn't help himself cos he just so bloody lovely and northern and irresistible.

Don't forget King of the professional Northerners, Michael Parkinson who loves his hometown so much he now lives in...Berkshire.

To be fair, there are some equally annoying professional cockneys who bang on about the good old east end, Barbara Windsor springs to mind.
