To not get why guys send dick pics?

Emboo19 · 29/07/2017 17:48

My very lovely single friend is spending the day with me and my DD.
She's trying online dating at the moment and is messaging a few people. She's been showing me some messages etc today, and almost every other message is a intimate photo mostly of the guys dick. She hasn't lead up to this, no sexting or anything, although most have asked for a return picture sending.
Is it supposed to be a turn on? Do any women actually think it is?

I love my boyfriend, all parts of him. But a pic of that wouldn't get me turned on or anything.

But she is laughing at the replies on here and we're starting on the wine now my DD is in bed.
What started our conversation and looking at other messages. Was someone she'd met and really liked, went down the sext and dick pic after the first date and then was off with her when she said she wasn't interested in doing that. So she's feeling a bit down.

Imagine the disappointment when you have had a really good first date, you quite fancy him, you think you may want to go on another date even. Then he sends a dick pic and it's all over. Sad

Aeroflotgirl · 29/07/2017 19:21

If a guy did that without any lead up, sexting, that guy would be in the no list. Can't stand this, very disrespectful and unacceptable. At least it sorts the wheat from the chaff quite quickly.

RortyCrankle · 29/07/2017 19:22

It's beyond my comprehension why men do this. It would be a huge turn off to me. I love the monkey pic or would probably respond with something like 'oh dear, you have my sympathy but I'm not a plastic surgeon so can't help you with your problem'. Smile

JetBoyJetGirl · 29/07/2017 19:22

Grin Boys

I think some of them do.

Some of them also have photos on their profile of them lying in seductive 'feminine' poses in a bubble bath or in bed. So I think some really do send photos they'd like to receive.

Sparklingbrook · 29/07/2017 19:23

It's ok Gottagetmoving teenage boys are akin to the devil on MN.

Emboo19 · 29/07/2017 19:27

That's exactly it Sparkling she'd been chatting to him for a while and all was good, a really great date, arranged a second, bit of a snog at the end.
Then a text, with a pic of his dick and a 'look what you could have taken home, hopefully next time' she even gave him a chance and said 'she didn't want to rush that side of things, but likes him' then he became a arse about it.

You won't remember this Emboo but there used to be a game show called Bullseye. If you didn't win they would still show you the prize (usually a speedboat or something random) and the host would say 'Look what you could have won'. Sounds a bit like that. Sad

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/07/2017 19:31

Him becoming an arse sort of supports the sex offender/red flags theory.

One of the reasons I thought my DH was 'the one' was that some other bloke in the bar the night I met him was aggressively pursuing me. I threatened to break his fingers if he touched me again without permission was very boundaried. And DH thought that was great. Good sign.

A man who pushes boundaries is never a good one. Throw them and their dick pics back.

Emboo19 · 29/07/2017 19:33

It doesn't help her, that I'm in a relationship and our other good friend, always gets really nice, good guys. It's usually her ending things or not wanting more.
Where as this friend just doesn't seem to have any luck with men. And she's lovely and bloody gorgeous!

I don't get it either. Disembodied genitals aren't the most pleasant thing to look at. I've never used an online dating app however I would have thought you'd be more likely to get a reply if you had a recent picture of yourself fully clothed doing something normal and fun.

ChristmasFluff · 29/07/2017 19:36

It is an upfront 'sex only' sign. Sad for your friend he didn't do it sooner, but better now than later. And great that so many twats men do it right from the get-go

lessworriedaboutthecat · 29/07/2017 19:40

I suppose one good thing about it is it weeds out the crazy's however I still find it baffling and creepy.

silkpyjamasallday · 29/07/2017 20:07

Dick pics are incredibly common in my experience, I don't know anyone my age (22) who is dating and hasn't got one. And it has never successfully snared a potential date/girlfriend.

But then I think sending someone you barely know naked pictures, genital shots or attempted alluring poses partially dressed is the height of stupidity, and plenty of women do this. Revenge porn laws give a bit more protection from unwanted repercussions now, but it doesn't protect you from whoever it's sent to then sending it around their mates or showing them. What happened to creating a bit of mystery?!

Fluffyears · 29/07/2017 20:11

I got a lot of them doing OD. My reply was always 'wtf is THAT?' Usually they said 'my dick!' And every time I'd say 'ew really it looks wrong, you need a doctor I think! Seriously dude there is something wrong with that!' Even if it looked perfectly normal.

JetBoyJetGirl · 29/07/2017 20:21

How did they respond, Fluffy?

Dramalady52 · 29/07/2017 21:20

Laura Bates' book Girl Up has some fantastic responses for unsolicited dick pics. My favourite is "oh, how cute, I love baby mice!"

donajimena · 29/07/2017 21:32

I asked a male friend if he thought women were turned on by visual stimuli. His reply was 'aren't you?' Erm nope. A picture of one of those things has the same level of arousal as I get from putting the bins out.
He wasn't a teenager either. Old enough to know better. I don't think he's ever sent a dick pic though but who knows what people get up to in their spare time?

ButchyRestingFace · 29/07/2017 21:37

Seriously?? Shock

I'd rather put the bins out any day.

VestalVirgin · 29/07/2017 21:41

Is it possible he misunderstood the question and thought it was about nice-looking men? Some women do have quite the weakness for certain styles of clothing.

If the question was asked in the context of dic pics, though ... Confused

Yeah, I'd rather put the bins out.

donajimena · 29/07/2017 22:39

The conversation was about dick pics. Like OP I've always wondered what men thought women get out of it. As he appears to be a decent chap I thought I'd ask him. I was very surprised that he thought it might be a visual stimuli.
vestal I can't speak for the rest of womankind but if I see a picture of an attractive man I often think .. ding dong a la Leslie Phillips Grin but it certainly doesn't stir my loins.

SteppingOnToes · 29/07/2017 22:48

I had this issue too - I used to send them one back (one of big fat one) saying that this was the best offer I had that day and theirs didn't come close...

Gwenhwyfar · 29/07/2017 23:00

Why is this legal when flashing isn't?

beebee7 · 29/07/2017 23:22

Good question @Gwenhwyfar. It should not be accepted really. And re the Op, I find it pretty disturbing that the girl in question is only 19! Poor girl, having to tolerate that shit at such a young age!

beebee7 · 29/07/2017 23:22

@amber90

This just made me laugh so so hard!!! Monkey fanny bum!! Thanks for cheering up my evening!

Hee hee you're welcome. Grin

@boysofmelody

I really can't see the pride some men take in their cock and balls (and I say this as a gentleman mumsnetter) they have the aesthetic appeal of a semi deflated set of bagpipes

Bah ha ha Grin

@whatsinthebox

That pic of that slimy thing with the teeth ewwww! (on page 3) what IS it? Grin

How weird that men think a pic of an erect penis and a pair of saggy hairy bollocks is a turn on for women. Confused

Reminds me of many years ago, a few men I knew (young, like 19 to 25,) seemed to think a woman gets turned on when she inserts a tampon. I had three different men ask me (over 3 or 4 years,) if it made me aroused and horny putting a tampon in? PMSL. Some men really are clueless! Grin
