To think Grimms Rainbow is the wankiest toy?

60 quid?!?!?!

For ten ish curves of wood painted in each of the rainbow colours. For a small child. To no doubt try to shove up their nose or wedge down the loo.

I do not understand how this item is worth anywhere near 60 quid, and it has got to bw something the parents buy to try and win cred or something?

Are you on my friends FB? 🤔 She just got one after many years of listing after one. I'd quite like one too but I wouldn't let my dc or pupils near it 😂😂

QueenArseClangers · 28/07/2017 10:37

We have one because, to be honest, we had enough plastic shite in our house. My DM got it for Christmas for 2 of my DC about 5 years ago.
It's played with lots, a bit bashed now but has been passed down to DC number 5 who loves it.
It also stacks away neatly and does look very nice.
We also like to fashion comedy bossoms with it and sometimes willies so that's worth the price in my book.

tigermummy35 · 28/07/2017 10:43

Comedy boobs 😂😂😂😂

Rainbownerd · 28/07/2017 10:46

We also love plastic noisy toys and YouTube, no one is judging anyone just because we also have wooden toys. Merely explaining why something is priced a certain way although a lot of plastic stuff we buy costs exactly the same if not more.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 28/07/2017 10:48

I think it's beautiful! I would have loved one for DS but it would have been totally wasted on him as he has the imagination of a woodlouse. He did love his wooden train set though. That's got to be the most played with toy he ever had. He still digs it out sometimes now (he's 9.5) to build elaborate tracks and make the trains crash...Hmm

Laughing at this as we have just received a delivery of a large Grimke rainbow this morning. We now have 3 rainbows in our house & other Grimms toys, along with the usual Lego & plastic toys. However the rainbows are played with every day by my two girls who are almost 2 & 5. We are home with chickenpox at the moment & so far today the rainbow has been built into a sculpture & is now part of a safari park (along with lots of wooden animals & plastic ELC fairies).

They are pricey but so are a lot of the latest fad toys which kids often lose interest in quickly. I also love like it being made by a small company who sources their wood responsibly and ethically.

TheLesserOfTwoWeevils · 28/07/2017 10:51

We have a Grimms rainbow that cost me a little over £50. My two boys play with it all the time. We also have a plastic paw patrol lookout that MIL bought for almost as much as the rainbow. It was played with constantly for about 2 weeks and has sat gathering dust ever since. I know which one I consider to be better value.

One thing I love about Grimms over cheaper versions is that Grimms toys are stained rather than painted which means they're wonderfully tactile and easier to stack.

Tentomidnight · 28/07/2017 11:01

Ooh, I love this 🌈
However, my DCs are far too old for it and there is no way I would have ever paid £60 for this. Manufacturers see parents coming Grin

Groupie123 · 28/07/2017 11:03

Kids tend to love it.

NapQueen · 28/07/2017 11:16

Well you are all just a bunch of buggers arent you. GrinGrin

I dont doubt it us a beauty but am just aghast at the cost.

Will look in Tiger for a cheaper one as suggested though

"Manufacturers see parents coming"

Or they pay for decent materials and pay their staff a fair amount for producing quality handmade goods and their prices reflect that...

But yeah, why support that when you could instead pay a similar amount for a plastic toy made in an Asian sweatshop?

CbeebiesAddict · 28/07/2017 11:20

We have the wankel, immature but we laugh everytime we say it. We have a mix of wooden and plastic, there is definitely a place for plastic (lego etc) but also for wood. And I gasp at the price of Lego Grin

londonrach · 28/07/2017 11:29

Lam...where do you put that code

nickiowla · 28/07/2017 11:46

Sometimes you just have to let your kids play with stuff to realise its real value...

I love that! Wasn't aware of Grimms toys but will investigate further.

YANBU to find it wanky but I think it's beautiful.

leeloo1 · 28/07/2017 12:56

" I also fail to see why anyone would pay £60 for this toy when Wish have it for £10. Wood is wood surely. It all comes from the same flipping trees."

But wish don't have a 12 piece rainbow for £10. They have one that is similar to the smaller £20ish grimms rainbow.

And no, they aren't necessarily the same trees. Grimms use sustainable wood for their handmade products, which is partly what you are paying for. Wish are mass producing products in Chinese sweatshops, so the wood may be contributing to the deforestation of rainforests/reducing the habitats for wildlife etc.

leeloo1 · 28/07/2017 12:57

Oh and the Sainsbury's rainbow doesn't stack like a grimms, but it makes awesome caves and does make zoo enclosures etc.

MrsClegane · 28/07/2017 13:02

Although very beautiful.... I do find grimms very expensive.

ps...whatever you do....DO NOT look at the grimms pegs!!!!! (£60 for a pretty rainbow is one thing, but almost £20 for pegs is beyond me)

leeloo1 · 28/07/2017 13:03

These are from the Sainsbury's rainbow (probably identical to the wish ones).

Oh and it was my ds who showed me how this 'worked', for a long time it was just an ornament, as I was disappointed it didn't stack like a grimms one. It's encouraging kids' imaginations that make open-ended toys like these so valuable.

Arf at clothes pegs being marketed as artisan children's toys!

Floggingmolly · 28/07/2017 13:07

Are those toys all still in their plastic wrappings, minxlynx?! Confused

leeloo1 · 28/07/2017 13:12

Here's the difference between the grimms 12 piece and Sainsbury's one. Both great toys, but very different in quality and size.

BTW, my 3yo rushed over to add in the ledges/floors (grimms semi-circles) and monkeys 'so they have something to stand on' and my 8yo just asked 'why are you doing building without me? Can I make it better?' So whoever thought their 2/3yo was too old, they're really not! :)
