AIBU?

To think Grimms Rainbow is the wankiest toy?

60 quid?!?!?!

For ten ish curves of wood painted in each of the rainbow colours. For a small child. To no doubt try to shove up their nose or wedge down the loo.

I do not understand how this item is worth anywhere near 60 quid, and it has got to bw something the parents buy to try and win cred or something?

I've managed to comment twice on here 😂

We have the Grimms giant rainbow, the £500 one. It's big enough to climb on/crawl under and the kids like it. However, I won it. I would never spend that amount of money on it. It's hollow to start with, not solid wood. £500 is definitely paying for the brand. I am pleased I won though.

@PragmaticMama Erm, nope - but I never said he did. He did enjoy adding bits to it and he can make some pretty good Tegu vehicles by himself. In time he will be able to make towers like the one in the picture, so a toy that will last for years. Not really sure what the problem is Hmm

so your toddler made that beautifully stacked tower then did they @MillyMolly123 riiiight LOL. Toys shouldn't be over-engineered. The GenNeu toys one I bought is different, sure (smaller, brighter colours), but we're getting a lot of use out of it.

There are lots of German websites which have all the Grimm toys and Osterheimer animals etc in stock, and the price in Euros is pretty much the price in pounds, so cheaper as well. I’ve used www.echtkind.de/ before.

I like open ended toys and I think it’s a nice toy that would encourage lots of different types of play. I’d be buggered if I was paying 60 quid for it though! I’d get a cheaper version or second hand.

@nowater34 Exactly! We were in Mothercare yesterday and I spotted a garish, crappy, cheap, flimsy looking toy pram/car seat/cot set for £60 - it didn’t look like it would last 2 minutes, it certainly wouldn’t be in any fit state to sell on once a child had played with it for a bit. People who think this is better value for money than a Grimm’s rainbow, for example baffle me. Fuzzy logic in my eyes, but hey ho!

Quality over quantity every time for me.

tbf we have probably spent £100 on paw patrol crap that won’t last!

They look fab, thanks for the pics! That’s true about the re sale. I will need to pop into my local
TK Maxx!

@nowater34 Definitely an expensive habit, but anything they don’t play with/outgrow can be sold on for not much less than the original price. All things considered, buying these toys is probably more cost effective than buying mainstream ones, and a lot more friendly for the planet Smile

Tegu is basically magnetic wooden blocks, but I think some kids get a little frustrated with them due to the position of the magnets on some of the blocks, limiting build possibilities. Our kids do love them (the youngest just likes snapping them together, the eldest has started building properly with them), but I wouldn’t pay full price. They can sometimes be found in TK Maxx, I bought most of ours even cheaper on Amazon though when a special offer was on. I’ve attached a couple of pics of things we’ve made to give you an idea.

Our lb is only starting to take an interest in drawing, so we don’t have those crayons. They look great, I may have to buy some to try.

And we do have some Plan Toys, no Tegu though so will check them out. Not tried Way to Play but DH is Brio obsessed so not sure I’m allowed a rival in the house!

Anyone used stockmar crayons? Was thinking of getting some as 3 yo loves colouring.

Thanks @MillyMolly123! Used one of your codes & got some pebbles, the wave & house stack, a puzzle & some more holz animals. Its an expensive habit!

@nowater34 Also, a lot of the Plan Toys stuff is lovely for that age group. The large balancing cactus is already on the wish list for our lb’s 3rd birthday, we’ve already got the beehives and stacking tree - both well loved.

I think it’s a bit marmite, but if your kids like it (ours do) Tegu is great. BUT it’s quite expensive and you really need a lot of pieces to build anything decent and permit variety (we have around 100 pieces which we’re adding to for his birthday).

I’m also coveting a Way to Play track set for his birthday but they seem to constantly be out of stock. I do have until October though Grin

@nowater34 Our lb really loves the cars and trucks. One/some of the retailers I listed above allow you to buy the cars individually rather than a set of 3 or 6. We use the rainbow as a car track which works really well. Our lb also likes to stack the pebbles with the large gems (as previously mentioned above Ocamora have recently released their “stacking blocks” which I think look better). Last night I ordered the large geometric stacker which I’m hoping will help with learning shapes. We’ve also got the large stepped pyramid, amonite puzzle and snake puzzle stashed for building and problem solving (although the puzzles are way too advanced for our eldest who is 2, but can be used for building/stacking/colour matching for now regardless).

Can I ask what you would recommend? We only have a rainbow & a few Holz animals.
