To think Grimms Rainbow is the wankiest toy?

60 quid?!?!?!

For ten ish curves of wood painted in each of the rainbow colours. For a small child. To no doubt try to shove up their nose or wedge down the loo.

I do not understand how this item is worth anywhere near 60 quid, and it has got to bw something the parents buy to try and win cred or something?

It may be beautiful, but at £60 I can most definitely live without it. Shock

Mind you, given the fun DS (3) is getting out of a tatty old plastic desk tidy (it's a ferry apparently, his teddies and toy cars are all stacked in for the ride), I'm tempted never to buy another toy again.

seething1234 · 28/07/2017 13:48

There's something wrong with my kids.... they're not into wooden toys at all.... plastic transformers, play mobile etc. all the rage here.

I love buying bits from aliexpress and wish but I wouldn't buy toys from them. God knows what paint etc they use, I doubt they are EU safety tested.... just something to keep in mind

ijustwannadance · 28/07/2017 13:53

I want a giant one!

wejammin · 28/07/2017 14:05

We've got a 12 piece rainbow which is in constant use by DS (5) and DD(3). It was cheaper than some of the lego kits that I would have constantly been tripping over, and I hope it will last a long time.

We have also just bought a wobbel board which we gave to DD today for her birthday and they have had a great morning, it's been a skateboard, a tunnel, a reading chair. Just need to figure out how to stop the cat scratching the felt underside.

We take the view that if my present budget can buy 1 longlasting thing or 4 cheaper things, go with the 1 quality item, especially as we want to have more children who will hopefully get use out of these toys too.

I love Babipur so much 😍

wildcatx · 28/07/2017 14:23

I was incredulous at the grimms rainbow hysteria, but that's then I saw this offering. Overpriced chopped logs anyone? :-D

If I had the money, I would totally get it.

ARedOne · 28/07/2017 14:50

We have a few of the smaller Grimm's pieces. My 2 year old loves them. They've been fantastic for colour matching because the "rainbow" stains are always the same.
I love Babi Pur too and had a package from them this morning with more Grimm's

NicolasFlamel · 28/07/2017 14:57

There's far, far wankier things on Babipur. £30 for some tiny empty wooden pots anyone?
I quite like the rainbow, I can see how it could have loads of uses for play.

Rainbownerd · 28/07/2017 16:03

Only a Grimm's Spiel rainbows will stack like this...

It does look good but not for £60! 😑

spiderlight · 28/07/2017 16:46

We have the smaller one from Myriad and DS played with it absolutely loads as a toddler (mostly making car parking spaces out of the pieces on their sides). I wouldn't have paid £60 for the big one though!

fruitlovingmonkey · 28/07/2017 17:22

OP have you seen the large wooden vulva yet?

HipsterHunter · 28/07/2017 17:24

I think that looks like a really fun toy! I would love it.

Walkerbean16 · 28/07/2017 17:26

Bugger. I bought some for £2 from a charity shop and gave it to my work (preschool) i could have stuck it on ebay 😂

MaureenDodd · 28/07/2017 17:33

My 4.5 yo has spent the entire day playing with a snap bracelet and the innards of a toilet roll ... or a space rocket as he corrected me.

Simple cheap pleasures 😂

Rhayader · 28/07/2017 17:35

We have one of these and my DD plays with it all the time. We have the semi circles too and she makes houses and landscapes for her toys to play in. Yellow = beach, blue = sea etc.

I did buy it before brexit vote though and it was 50 then.

Hygge · 28/07/2017 17:38

fruitlovingmonkey - OP have you seen the large wooden vulva yet?

hennaoj · 28/07/2017 17:39

It is quite brilliant with the rainbow balls.

The wood on grimms toys is rough, not smooth. This means is has much more grip when stacking. Our big rainbow was a joint present from my mother a few years ago and it is now looking very loved.

musicalfrog · 28/07/2017 17:48

Apart from blatant snobbery, what the hell is wrong with plastic?

ALL the toys that we are waiting for my DP to fix are plastic. They are (for the most part) made cheaply and break easily. No snobbery here.

LaurieMarlow · 28/07/2017 17:52

There are lots of super high quality plastic toys out there.

Duplo is indestructible and I love and adore the B toy brand. Their stuff is gorgeous.

hennaoj · 28/07/2017 17:57

It beats spending £60 on a Hatchimal...

musicalfrog · 28/07/2017 17:58

We had one at my old nursery. It wasn't that beautiful, it's painted quite heavy that you can't see the grain!

Either it wasn't a Grimm's or it had been painted by someone else. The bright rainbow is stained, not painted.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/07/2017 18:04

I have no children now and I'm honestly reading this and thinking gosh that's really lovely and £60 is a really good price

I think it would be worth it
