To think Grimms Rainbow is the wankiest toy?

60 quid?!?!?!

For ten ish curves of wood painted in each of the rainbow colours. For a small child. To no doubt try to shove up their nose or wedge down the loo.

I do not understand how this item is worth anywhere near 60 quid, and it has got to bw something the parents buy to try and win cred or something?

We have one it's played with every day used for all sorts houses, animal pens, doll slides, doll beds, car tunnels, hills to name a few things they do with it and it does look so beautiful on the shelf so not with you on this one OP we LOVE ours :)

PerspicaciaTick · 27/07/2017 23:52

It is a silent toy. It will never, ever unexpectedly come to life in the night and start squawking loudly from behind the sofa.
It can be anything your child wants it to be, rather than the things the toy designer thinks your child should want it to be.
My DCs are big now and only interested in tiny, very expensive electronic things. I kind of miss looking at all the wonderful toys which are out there.

venys · 27/07/2017 23:53

We have something similar called a Wobbel board www.babipur.co.uk/wobbel-boards-balance-rocker.html . Ridiculously expensive curved bit of wood (although we got it on sale). But the kids aged 6,4 and 1 love it. It mostly gets used as something to stand on or as a rocker to sit and watch TV in, but you can make tunnels, run cars down it etc. Good fun.

Kittykatmacbill · 27/07/2017 23:56

We have a s---

Anon8604 · 27/07/2017 23:56

Ah, love our Wobbel board too! Also in the pricey but worth it category.

except when you nearly break your toe on the fecking thing because they do take up a bit of space in a small room

Marcipex · 27/07/2017 23:57

DGS more or less ignored his, but. DGD has taken it over and plays it with a lot.

Floggingmolly · 27/07/2017 23:59

I checked eBay to see how they hold their price... They're going for between £75 and £89 Confused. Why??
Have they been discontinued?

Anon8604 · 28/07/2017 00:01

I think they can often be out of stock at retailers as it's a small company so they have a limited production capacity. So I guess if someone needs to buy one quickly for a birthday or something they'd be willing to pay over the standard price to get one.

coldcanary · 28/07/2017 00:01

I'd just like to highlight perspicacia's comment of 'it is a silent toy'.
As a nursery nurse, Mum and a childminder that alone is worth twice the price!! Grin
Honestly my kids would have loved this but my instinct would automatically be 'how fucking much??'

RedStripeIassie · 28/07/2017 00:04

Sixty fucking quid! For a few curved bits of wood?!

Am I missing something?

PodgeBod · 28/07/2017 00:15

My 2 year old would love it, she's obsessed with rainbows right now. Would definitely consider it if I saw it in b&m for a tenner never heard of Grimms before this thread

Scoobydoobydont · 28/07/2017 00:16

I just don't get it. It's a toy made from wood.

I just don't get it. A bloke who lives in our town spent £200k on a Ferrari. It's just a car made of metal and leather and stuff

BayLeaves · 28/07/2017 00:18

The smaller ones cost closer to £30. I suppose it's not that bad when you consider people spend that much on shit like flimsy Hot Wheels tracks, or fad toys like Furbies, which probably don't last as long and do not encourage much imagination.

On the other hand I sort of agree with OP, you know what is even more wanky though ... the monochrome version! I feel sorry for kids whose parents buy only black, white, and neutral wooden toys to match perfectly with their minimalist decor, not considering what kids actually like, which is lovely bright colours!

PodgeBod · 28/07/2017 00:23

Just saw a £5 version on the website and got excited but no, that's just a decoration for your celebration ring.

ALLthedinosaurs · 28/07/2017 00:26

Awww this stuff reminds me of when I was pregnant with my PFB (still my PFB) and decided that he would only have wooden educational toys and musical instruments from the Eden Project 😂

Of course now I am drowning in plastic shit, Power Rangers and those 3-pack crayons from Wetherspoons.

I'm still going to go misty eyed over the Holztiger animals though... And that pretty rainbow... And I want that wobbel thing for myself.

Badweekjustgotworse · 28/07/2017 00:28

i really covet these, but can't possibly justify 60quid. i think my toddlers would love it but I'm not prepared to take the risk that all 60 quids worth would end up in the bottom of the toy box discarded and neglected till we lost or broke one of the sections so it didn't even make a rainbow anymore and looked shit on the mantlepiece anyway....

64PooLane · 28/07/2017 00:45

Oh I love this. DC too big now though. Not heard of Grimsby before either.

64PooLane · 28/07/2017 00:46

*Grimms

(I have heard of Grimsby)

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 28/07/2017 00:57

I am a nursery teacher and I am rather obsessed with Grimms toys! Blush (not that I can afford any of them!!) I did however get a small (10") Grimms rainbow for £3 in charity shop last week! I saw it in the window and practically sprinted across the street to grab it before anyone else spotted it! I would love so much to have the large 12 piece rainbow for my classroom! (& my own DDs/me!)

Choccywoccyhooha · 28/07/2017 01:32

We have one. It is 7 years old now and still played with weekly by all three of my children. Fantastic toy and beautiful to look at.

Shemozzle · 28/07/2017 01:52

We have one. I was sceptical, but it is the most played with toy. For transparency, my kids don't play with toys much, they play with blankets/pillows/ pans/plates/cubs/towels/clothes more than toys which is incredibly annoying, but the rainbow is made into tunnels and pens and things a lot. However, a friends 2 year old stood on and snapped one of the arches. I don't like to even look at it now.

I also bought some holztiger but they couldn't care less about that.

Weebitty · 28/07/2017 02:20

we have one and its well played with. the shitty thing about it is it's naturally dyed etc and the colour transfers from the red and orange pieces onto the lighter ones if it knocks together. apparently this is totally acceptable and if you mention it to any grimms fan they get ecstatic about a bashed and stained one being so loved. it's natural don't you know?

emperors new clothes. 60 quid for something that looks crap after a week. ds still bloody loves it...

TipBoov · 28/07/2017 02:47

I just don't get it. A bloke who lives in our town spent £200k on a Ferrari. It's just a car made of metal and leather and stuff

Right. So it's the brand people are interested in?

PerspicaciaTick · 28/07/2017 02:52

Not the brand. A beautifully engineered and produced object which does the job it was designed to do perfectly.

TipBoov · 28/07/2017 03:17

Grin I'm sure that was tongue in cheek but it does illustrate how keen Grimm's fans are for what is just a toy.
