60 quid?!?!?!

For ten ish curves of wood painted in each of the rainbow colours. For a small child. To no doubt try to shove up their nose or wedge down the loo.

I do not understand how this item is worth anywhere near 60 quid, and it has got to bw something the parents buy to try and win cred or something?

Plastic is not recyclable for a start wombling.

We have a small grimms rainbow, bought for my eldest's first birthday and it's still played with now.

londonrach · 28/07/2017 07:39

Thanks autocat...i can relax about the sainsburys one. Was cross i didnt get it three years ago (no dd then)

BonjourMinou · 28/07/2017 07:39

We have the smaller six piece and it is played with daily by both toddlers. I'd love a 12 piece but just can't justify the cash! Sorry op 😁

londonrach · 28/07/2017 07:42

Lam... thank you. Im not good on sizes. Is that second one a meduim or small grimmes size rainbow. Can just see it in dd room.

Iamembarrassed · 28/07/2017 07:45

No idea I think it's the small version i have just ordered it so I'm not sure but I would say small

The first one I linked to is the Sainsbury's one it literally arrives in Sainsbury's packaging and it doesn't really balance on top of each other but does make arches so good in a pinch

I suspect it quite beautiful to look at the continuous grain and touch

We had one at my old nursery. It wasn't that beautiful, it's painted quite heavy that you can't see the grain!

And a child definitely couldn't crawl through the it!

Kids loved it though, especially when it's placed on a mirror and it's a good open ended resource.

Twinkie1 · 28/07/2017 07:53

I want one to have as a show toy, it can join all the others whilst DDs plastic shite is tucked away out of site.

londonrach · 28/07/2017 08:13

Lam...im ordering it when i get downstairs. I can pretend its a grimmes. Got one holzerime (wrong spelling) animal given to dd for her first birthday. She loves it (or at least the tail). My mil said she get her one per birthday, xmas which is vvvvv kind of her. Told her she doesnt have to but knowing her i think our one might be a start of a few. Dont mind they beautiful and ill never get rid of them as they be her special gift from her granny.

londonrach · 28/07/2017 08:16

Which one best lem...first or second...decisions decisions!!!

londonrach · 28/07/2017 08:17

splendide · 28/07/2017 08:25

DS is nearly three so probably not worth it now but if I'd seen this a year ago I'd have got one.

WomblingThree · 28/07/2017 08:43

But why does it need to be AuroraFloyd? I'm more interested in re-use (and therefore value for money) than recycling.

If you buy good quality toys then it doesn't really matter what they are made of. Not all plastic is "tat". Plastic toys we bought my son 20 years ago are still being rotated round the family. I imagine they will still be played with by my great grandchildren. My mother has a box of my 40+ year old plastic "tat" that her 4 year old godchild loves to play with.

I fail to see why wooden toys are such a status symbol on here. I also fail to see why anyone would pay £60 for this toy when Wish have it for £10. Wood is wood surely. It all comes from the same flipping trees.

Iamembarrassed · 28/07/2017 08:45

The first one is good if you don't want to stack it on top of each other and use it for curves and tunnels and the second one I'm not sure but have ordered

hxpjmzp - wish code if you want some money off !!

allegretto · 28/07/2017 08:46

I think it looks good and I'd much rather have it than a jumperoo and lots of people seem to buy that.

hmmwhatatodo · 28/07/2017 09:47

How can people not like Grimms stuff??

Scares35 · 28/07/2017 10:19

I have a fair few grimms toys I've spent a fortune on expensive plastic rubbish that gets thrown in a corner some plastic toys are extortionate ! The rainbow is loved by all ages which is what I like , yes they are pricey but so are plastic toys and I know what I would prefer. How it could be classed as the wankiest toy ever is beyond me haha ! When I see the shit some people buy! Mind you a lot of people are happy for their kids to be glued to gadjets these days and not use their imagination that's not for me I'm afraid!

Scares35 · 28/07/2017 10:20

God knows,it's weird people almost seem jealous which is odd as most plastic stuff isn't any cheaper! They are beautiful I'm saving all mine for the grandchildren

Scares35 · 28/07/2017 10:22

Splendide my 8 year old plays with it the most

Rainbownerd · 28/07/2017 10:24

#wankiesttoy 😂

To think Grimms Rainbow is the wankiest toy?
Rainbownerd · 28/07/2017 10:29

My kids absolutely adore these toys, they are handmade not produced on a conveyer belt and stock is limited, the family run business recruits people who find it hard to find jobs due to either health or other reasons and ethically sourced. The toys are open ended which supports child development in many different ways.

On top of this, these toys are even played with my the adults in our family and some make for great drinking games 😂😂😉😉

MargotLovedTom1 · 28/07/2017 10:29

Sad I have failed as a mother: my children did not have a single Grimm's toy or Holzerwhatsit animal and now all they're interested in is Minecraft and watching numpties like Dan & Phil on YouTube.

MrsJoyOdell · 28/07/2017 10:32

I bought a rainbow in Sainsbury's for £2 and I much prefer it, because DD gets to build tunnels & have a rainbow and I had £58 left to buy other shit nice toys Grin

tigermummy35 · 28/07/2017 10:34

My kids love playing with our #wankiesttoy so much. One rainbow costs about the same as a couple of build a bears (??) which would no doubt be cast aside after a week. Don't get me wrong we have happyland and duplo so it's not about plastic snobbery, but these Grimm's beauties feel amazing, look amazing and have endless possibilities with a child's (or grown ups) imagination.

minisoksmakehardwork · 28/07/2017 10:37

I can't be doing with all this non-plastic, natural toys shite.

We have duplo which is over 30 years old. Plastic shite if you like. The beautiful wooden dolls house got smashed with exuberant play...

It isn't about what the toy is made from but how durable it is which matters to me. Our duplo is still going strong and will continue to do so for many, many more years. The dolls house sadly wasn't very well constructed and so didn't last.

But; if you wish to look at it from an environmental impact, plastic used fossil fuels to create it and takes lifetimes to break down, if it ever fully does. Trees are planted, often specifically to be cut down (using fossil fuels if petrol driven chainsaws etc), they are made into toys and then when broken, can be tossed in the log burner and burnt, releasing the paint fumes etc into the atmosphere. If left to rot away it will still take time, just not as much.

TBH two cancel each other out for me.
