Parking wars - on my own drive !

I know the rules, diagram is attached. 😉

I'm on half days this week and have just got home to find a car in my driveway. As we are a corner house we have two driveways, big enough for one car each. Parking is really tight around here and permit only too. Opposite us is 8 terraced houses with no allocated parking, so quite often they either park in their garages or in the handful or visitor bays opposite my place but in front of theirs. My front drive is VERY clearly my driveway.

Cheeky Fucker Neighbour (CFN) runs a business from home which involves a lot of clients coming and going from her house throughout the day (pet groomer) and he employs two people to help.

I came home today to find a car in my drive which was not DHs. So I park down the side (pink section) of the house on the road where neighbours park their cars. I go and knock on several doors to find out who it belongs too, turns out it's one of the employees who is staying for a little while longer (P/T). "But I'll only be another hour, so I'll move it then." I reply "No, move it now please as I have to unload my car." Person refuses and I end up leaving telling them to move it within 30 minutes.

That was an hour ago and when I knock on the door there is no answer.

My next door neighbour has just told me that this car is on either my front drive or rear drive each morning ! When he questioned them about it, apparently CFN has said it's OK for them to park there and they have cleared it with us. No they bloody haven't!

Thing is this went on last year but after words it sooner stopped but obviously they are doing it again.

I'm sat here glaring out my front window waiting for the fucker to move his car then we will have words. I would block it in, but the road is only wide enough for one car so would block the road.

Or equally park behind him blocking the drive and refuse to move it.

notaslimceagirl · 26/07/2017 15:23

Get a chair from your house and sit behind it while you mumsnet. Refuse to move!

HelenRose1111 · 26/07/2017 15:24

I'd be ringing 101 and asking for advice asap, cheeky fucker!
It's Trespass, plain and simple.
And, I'd get bollards and a chain and lock the access to your drive from now on. Raging on your behalf!

gingergenius · 26/07/2017 15:24
  1. Call 101. Don't do any criminal damage. Get the police to move them.
SillyMoomin · 26/07/2017 15:24

Hating it for you op

But.. loving it Grin

hellsbellsmelons · 26/07/2017 15:24

Put a note on the car windscreen in lipstick!
Directly onto the windscreen!
Do it do it do it!

HepKestrel · 26/07/2017 15:26

birdseed.

Collaborate · 26/07/2017 15:26

Let all 4 tyres down.

Nothing he can do about that.

Except have her prosecuted for theft. When you inflate your tyre you "reduce" the air in to your possession. It is theft for anyone to then let the tyre down. Something you learn in the first week of doing a law degree.

WindyWednesday · 26/07/2017 15:26

Keep ringing the bell.

MrsJamesAspey · 26/07/2017 15:27

Have you checked the doors and boot are locked? Worth checking, you could have access to the handbrake....

SoupDragon · 26/07/2017 15:27

If you have a jet washer you could clean the drive. It will make the car filthy.

Collaborate · 26/07/2017 15:28

I second this approach.

SoupDragon · 26/07/2017 15:28

I have a jet washer and am at a loose end. I don't suppose you're near Croydon...?

RhubardGin · 26/07/2017 15:29

Cheeky fucker!

Get it towed and then have a stern word with your neighbour.

Angry

Or, you could go and sit on the bonnet until he moves?

Silverthorn · 26/07/2017 15:30

Start charging them for parking there. May as well make some money out of them.

thegoodnameshadgone · 26/07/2017 15:30

Have they still not moved their car?
Clearly waiting until they finish their shift or what?
I'd be feeewwwming!

AtHomeDadGlos · 26/07/2017 15:30

collaborate wind your neck in; prosecuted for 'theft' of tyre air. Lol.

rainbowduck · 26/07/2017 15:32

Air theft???

BrightYellowStripes · 26/07/2017 15:32

Come back OP....

mineofuselessinformation · 26/07/2017 15:34

Look up the phone number for the business. Ring it and demand immediate removal. Keep ringing until they comply.

blacksax · 26/07/2017 15:34

They might technically be legally able to run a business from home, but are they paying business rates to the council? Do they have permission for staff and customers to park in your road? Are they registered for VAT? Do they have public liability insurance? Are they declaring all their income to the Inland Revenue and paying tax, or is it all 'cash in hand'?

If I were you, I'd be feeling an urge to do a spot of telephoning...

Oh, and block the bugger in.

ShmooBooMoo · 26/07/2017 15:34

I meant to add: if CFN said it was ok, you've now clearly pointed out that it's not so the trespasser is now aware they are trespassing. My 'outraged' side says let down every tire but my 'rational' side says report to council and police and insist it is removed. Then take action to prevent them from doing it in the future ie signs/ bollards etc

thegoodnameshadgone · 26/07/2017 15:34

Stupid neighbours anyway. If they'd of asked nicely chances are you'd probably had let them when you weren't in in the spirit of being neighbourly.
I'm so lucky with my neighbours

AwaywiththePixies27 · 26/07/2017 15:34

Isn't that classed as Trespass? Confused

elevenclips · 26/07/2017 15:34

Folding bollard is the answer unfortunately. People are cheeky, greedy, arrogant wankers when they think they can get away with it.

I would also photograph incl. reg plates and report to the police as a regular occurrence. Wonder if neighbour has all the appropriate arrangements to run this business from home.
