Parking wars - on my own drive !

I know the rules, diagram is attached. 😉

I'm on half days this week and have just got home to find a car in my driveway. As we are a corner house we have two driveways, big enough for one car each. Parking is really tight around here and permit only too. Opposite us is 8 terraced houses with no allocated parking, so quite often they either park in their garages or in the handful or visitor bays opposite my place but in front of theirs. My front drive is VERY clearly my driveway.

Cheeky Fucker Neighbour (CFN) runs a business from home which involves a lot of clients coming and going from her house throughout the day (pet groomer) and he employs two people to help.

I came home today to find a car in my drive which was not DHs. So I park down the side (pink section) of the house on the road where neighbours park their cars. I go and knock on several doors to find out who it belongs too, turns out it's one of the employees who is staying for a little while longer (P/T). "But I'll only be another hour, so I'll move it then." I reply "No, move it now please as I have to unload my car." Person refuses and I end up leaving telling them to move it within 30 minutes.

That was an hour ago and when I knock on the door there is no answer.

My next door neighbour has just told me that this car is on either my front drive or rear drive each morning ! When he questioned them about it, apparently CFN has said it's OK for them to park there and they have cleared it with us. No they bloody haven't!

Thing is this went on last year but after words it sooner stopped but obviously they are doing it again.

I'm sat here glaring out my front window waiting for the fucker to move his car then we will have words. I would block it in, but the road is only wide enough for one car so would block the road.

gingergenius · 27/07/2017 11:00

Ooh @Treble28 I love a good bridezilla thread - which one???

gingergenius · 27/07/2017 11:01

Aren't kicking wheel nuts just for alloys???

daddyorscience · 27/07/2017 11:01

I once came home from work, with my ex, to find an Audi TT in my allocated space. Parked behind it, sideways, flashing inflatable traffic cone on my roof with "wanker" sign pointing at the Audi.

Note on the windscreen , saying "never heard of private Parking?"... Neighbours were congratulating us.

One says "he's gone".. Rather then come apologise, he'd driven off forward through bonnet deep scrub and rubble, almost certainly damaging the TT in the process.

Ahhhhhhh, memories..

HerOtherHalf · 27/07/2017 11:02

I hope this works out for you OP because the behaviour of your CFN and his employee is completely outrageous. However, escalations have a habit of leading to more escalations. Are you prepared for the possibility that the phantom tyre thief might be closely followed by a phantom vandal targeting your home or vehicles? As exciting as this drama is for the invested audience, I really think you need to find a way to de-escalate things and resolve them completely legally before it all gets way out of hand.

mikeyssister · 27/07/2017 11:04

Can just imagine going into local police station and reporting tyres stolen off my car:

CFNE: I want to report the tyres stolen off my car
Officer: That's terrible, where did it happen
CFNE: I abandoned it on a random driveway
Officer: Shock Confused Hmm

JustDontGetItAtAll · 27/07/2017 11:05

If OP really has taken the tyres, obviously CFNE is going to accuse OP/DH of taking them out of spite - calls Police - Police arrest OP/DH before searching their property, surely? I can't believe some people are actually condoning this? I'm raging for the OP as much as everyone else, but taking tyres off? Seriously? This is escalating to dangerous levels now....

I know nobody has actually SAID OP/DH took them, which even if true, is likely to still lead to Police potentially arresting OP/DH or at very least having a quick search of their home! Not exactly a win in my book... Flame me if you like but that's how I see it! X

GutterStar · 27/07/2017 11:06

This is turning into a very satisfying parking thread! Good job, everyone. High fives all round.

KitKat1985 · 27/07/2017 11:07

Best. Parking. Thread. Ever.

Nellysmagichat · 27/07/2017 11:07

I love a parking thread as much as the next MN-er, truly I do, and maybe I'm just a massive worrier, but what if the police get involved in the tyre theft?

(I know, I know, tyre thieves serendipitously struck again, the OP definitely didn't remove the tyres, but still ....)

Nellysmagichat · 27/07/2017 11:08

Oh, I see JustDontGetItAtAll voiced a similar concern while I was typing.

JustDontGetItAtAll · 27/07/2017 11:10

My thinking Nelly. Eve if it was thieves. Police are likely to arrest OP/DH pending investigation due to the circumstances and glaringly obvious spite-related motive! I doubt Police will take OP/DH's word for it if they say "Oh it wasn't us, honest. They really were stolen!" Hardly likely. They'll be interviewed under caution for sure. Pretty certain of that

SheSaidHeSaid · 27/07/2017 11:12

This is the thing, even if the OP didn't take the tyres it will look like they did (even though it's happened before). I wouldn't be surprised if there was a comeback from this.

DadDadDad · 27/07/2017 11:14

Actually, Schaden, with the picture you have painted, it might just be the case that one wheel was hard to access (pressed up against hedge / wall), so the thieves simply left it.

It still seems a staggering coincidence that on the day the OP discovered a stranger has been parking on her drive was the day that car got a flat battery and the day that thieves returned and picked this car. But then staggering coincidences do happen.

Nellysmagichat · 27/07/2017 11:15

It's one of those things that would be funny as a sitcom plot, and makes for an amusing read on an internet forum, but in reality, there are ramifications.

I don't think the police are going to listen to the full story and be all 'yeah, tyre thieves, what can you do, eh?' whilst knowingly tapping the side of their noses and giving the OP a cheeky wink.

gingergenius · 27/07/2017 11:18

The police will not get involved. They'll absolutely see it for what is is, offer some solicitous advice about being more neighbourly and leave very much alone.

Nellysmagichat · 27/07/2017 11:24

So if the vehicle owner reports theft of the tyres in order to make an insurance claim, the police are at liberty to refuse to to issue a crime number? Or if the vehicle owner starts a tit-for-tat campaign and makes a report of criminal damage against the OP? Confused

gingergenius · 27/07/2017 11:25

They may well give it a crime number. Doesn't mean charges are likely.

Goodasgoldilox · 27/07/2017 11:48

Dear OP can I suggest that , as this is turning out to be a bit of a crime-ridden area, you invest in some CCTV for your drives.

It might help keep tyre thieves away (and possibly stray parkers too).

ineededausername · 27/07/2017 12:27

God I love a good CF thread - CFN must be having an interesting time trying to justify to CFNE why they gave them the all clear to park there Grin

Wrongintherightway · 27/07/2017 17:28

Phone the police and report it as an abandoned car! Feeling annoyed in your behalf you can't let them treat you like this, it's your property!

AtHomeDadGlos · 27/07/2017 17:29

Time for a new thread I think OP...only 25 posts left then you'll be bust.
