To tell DH he needs to replace this out of his own pocket

DH decided to use our dyson to clean the garage floor, which made the inside filthy. His solution was to try and wash it out (told him it was a bad idea but this was ignored). Dyson now gone to the utility room in the sky.

I have a kilner jar I save my change in, and have been saving for ages for a specific purpose. Tonight DH has said I should take it to the bank and use the money to replace the Dyson.

AIBU to say to him that he needs to replace it out of his own pocket? He can afford to, and he is the reason why its broken.

Of course he should. He's pulling a fast one and was an idiot to use a Dyson on a surface like that!

I purchased it originally as I wanted a hand-held cordless vacuum, to do little bits without having to get the big hoover out. He normally uses the big hoover.

House stuff is surely a joint purchase, out of joint money, they don't belong to one person? No way is it something you should pay for personally, when he broke it!

Yeah he can FTFO. He broke something, he needs to replace it. Even using his logic that you use it/it belongs to you, that's even more of a reason for him to replace it.

So op and everyone else using the 'you break it, you pay for it line', if you were using the oven / dishwasher / washing machine etc and they broke, would you expect to pay for them?
