Longleat Center Parcs, taking £600 a night to be on a 24hr building site! Aaagghh

Mumblebeebee · 25/07/2017 02:05

We are currently staying at Longleat centre parcs. Having saved for this for a year, it's costing an eye watering £600 a night for 4 nights. Total £2400.

What we weren't told was our villa was opposite a 24 hour construction site. Which, as I type is sounding like smashing bottles being thrown into a bottle bank crossed with several generators running.

I'm fuming, no sleep possible and we have 4 children to entertain tomorrow.

AIBU to have expected Center Parks not to have booked out our villa knowing this. Or at very least warned us.

Any advice? We've called customer services at 2am to be told that extra work was being carried out!

I'm not happy at all.

This doesn't shock me with CP at all. It is a ridiculously over priced pretend forest experience where everything is extra apart from swimming. So many better choices of places to stay. I'm shocked at those describing it as a 5* experience!

bananafanana1 · 25/07/2017 08:17

Go give em hell OP!

That's terrible- I'd expect a refund for last night and move to another villa elsewhere. Also assistance with packing.

There are probably h&s regs that need to be complied with for timings.

As who the 'principal contractor' is so they can be told.

HeadDreamer · 25/07/2017 08:17

I don't think you can get £2400 for four nights overseas at the type of accommodation that longleat has. OP has a large family. I assume she has 3 bedrooms at least. And maid service.

I was pricing going overseas next august. Tickets for 4 on easy jet is £800 to Verona. (With 2 checked in bags). Add an apartment with cleaning with 4-5* rating on trip advisor which is €1600. That's the same as what the OP pays though it's for 4 only.

HeadDreamer · 25/07/2017 08:17

It's one week btw.

PumpkinSpiceEverything · 25/07/2017 08:18

Get a refund. Make sure to record evidence.

Co1onelblimp · 25/07/2017 08:20

Ofudginghell you could absoloutely go abroad for that price even in peak summer.

My ndn has just booked a package holiday to Portugal half board for two adults and two kids fir £1990. Thst's for a week in late August.

I feel for you OP. I would be absoloutely raging!!

HeadDreamer · 25/07/2017 08:20

I can find cheaper overseas places ofc but you can also do a cheap holiday park in U.K. But that's not a fair comparison.

StealthPolarBear · 25/07/2017 08:21

On MN it is a crime to spend money on any non essential and people are always excellent bargain hunters - until asked to find examples.
On another thread people were saying 150 for a hotel was ridiculous - imo it's on the high side but about right for say a Saturday night.

MrsPorth · 25/07/2017 08:22

I hope they compensate you properly OP. That's not on.

2014newme · 25/07/2017 08:23

We go to cp every year we pay £349 for 3 nights for 4 people. It is not worth £600 per night!

notyourhomie · 25/07/2017 08:23

I take it they're not in London then (the person who thinks £150 for a hotel is ridiculous!)

2014newme · 25/07/2017 08:24

We go in January, March or may outside school hols

Co1onelblimp · 25/07/2017 08:26

Right, the OP has four children! I thought they were a family of four not six.
Personally i wouldn't pay those prices, even for six people, but that's not the point.
I would kick up a real stink about this OP.

MissEliza · 25/07/2017 08:26

That's appalling Op. I hope you get properly compensated.

Co1onelblimp · 25/07/2017 08:29

Can anyone give me a rough idea for non peak price for CP please. I wouldn't mind doing a long weekend next year.

We don't have to go in school holidays. Would want a two bed chalet/lodge.

StealthPolarBear · 25/07/2017 08:30

Well it was 600 for two couples for two nights. People got very fixated on the 600. I look into taking our parents away either to lakes or a city break such as Edinburgh. Rarely find anything much cheaper that isn't a dive.

Bingeslayer · 25/07/2017 08:30

Fingers crossed you get a refund, appalling set up.

Dancinginthemidnight · 25/07/2017 08:35

Good luck complaining.

londonrach · 25/07/2017 08:37

Hope you get a full refund for lastnight and they move you today. £600 id book an hotel or a holiday cottage. How many rooms do you need to pay £600.

ChasedByBees · 25/07/2017 08:40

I would want a refund for the whole holiday too as the lack of sleep and inconvenience of moving is going to pretty much wipe out your holiday.

I'd also take notes and look at small claims Court if if you don't get the resolution you want. I've no idea if they would look at this but it's so outrageous I'd try!

OddBoots · 25/07/2017 08:41

Why on earth are they even thinking of doing building work at all in the school holidays when their highest paying customers are on site, never mind doing it overnight!?

kate20091985 · 25/07/2017 08:42

This is awful, really hope they offer you some proper compensation (moving accommodation and refund). I love center Parcs but it IS very expensive, and not just the lodges. I think it's outrageous that they know building work is being carried out in certain areas and still let them out at full price, definitely should be a discount and a warning when you book. You go to center parcs for relaxation, not a building site.

MsHarry · 25/07/2017 08:43

£2400 for 4 nights at a holiday camp in UK??? What?? I'm staying in a private villa with pool in the med for that AND in school hols!!!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 25/07/2017 08:44

C01 - late August has always been cheaper than the start of the school hols.

GrumpyOldBag · 25/07/2017 08:45

£600 a night is not unreasonable for a family of 6, with 4 bedrooms, which the OP said her group was.
